Through their scripts, authors deliver messages about their opinions on various issues ranging from gender roles to class ranks. These messages are developed to provoke thoughts and questions from people who experience performances. In the play Rome Sweet Rome, the Q Brothers Collective use both new and old theatrical techniques to make parallels between the Roman and United States governments by addressing issues involving women’s roles in society, class rank, and homosexuality. The play uses methods both similar and different to other classic plays to deliver a message that is relatable to issues in today’s world. This message is enhanced through the use of acting styles, set design, costumes, music, and lighting.

This play is about the experiences of a dying school boy, it is a celebration of life and the power to heal through gaining insight.

One thing that I liked the most about her way to guide new playwright that she never tells you what to add or not what to add in your plays. The only thing that she really emphasizes is that a playwright should ask themselves why they feel whatever they are writing have or should be a play? According to Parks “ the words “why”, “have” and “play” are key. If you don’t have an answer then get out of town. No joke. The last thing American theater needs is another lame play.” (Pg. 7) One thing that we should always do about playwriting is not to take anything for granted.

In the novel, “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time,” by Mark Haddon, Christopher John Francis Boone, an autistic child, goes on a quest to investigate the death of the neighborhood dog, Wellington. However, he soon embarks on a journey where the people he loves challenge how he perceives the truth. As a result, Christopher becomes conflicted in terms of how to deal with the truth and the steps he needs to take in order to overcome the overwhelming truth about the lies he has been told. Not only does Christopher encounter the stages of pain and hurt, his father goes through the process of contemplating the implications of his lies as well. When the truth comes out, it can unintentionally cause pain, but can create new possibilities and opportunities in life. The text ultimately showcases the process of dealing with the truth and the aftermath of persevering despite the difficulties and complications one encounters.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time is a novel written by Mark Haddon. The main character of the book is Christopher Boone, a 15 year-year-old teenager who has trouble with autism. This book helps you learn about his situation and you develop a better understanding into the life of someone with Autism. Christopher lives with his dad who is another main character in the book. This affects how the reader views not only people with autism but it also affects the level of compassion that they have for others.

In the past few weeks we have read several plays, The Seven Year Itch, Trifles, and Pomp and Circumstance. Many aspects of them have stuck out to me, such as the setting and the personalities of the characters in them. Another thing that intrigued me is that these three plays all take place in different time periods. The era that a play takes place can impact its direction due to differences in social classes and boundaries and even how the opposite sex is treated.

Physical and emotional separation is a prominent theme conveyed in both “The Child” and “To Kill a Mocking-bird”. Church’s “The Child” opens with the persona’s use of third person to recount their sight of a small boy with “an incomplete brain”. The use of the metaphoric connotation to the boy offers audiences the view that child is mentally- disadvantaged and is subject to prejudice of the general public with their “cruel eyes”. This representation emphasises the importance of physical appearance especially in a society which often judge and assess an individual by their exterior. As Church conveys that the boy experiences “mocking voice of the other boys”, this emphasises the importance of physical appearance to become accepted in the community even though traditionally, adolescents are presumed to be innocent and free of prejudice. Although physically, the young boy has a “simple exterior”, Church highlights that the boy is subject to prejudice due to his physical appearance which reveals his disabled nature. For a play to meet with success, it is essential that it include a cast of interesting and captivating characters. Without interesting characters, the audience would not only be confused by each unimportant character, but possibly puzzled by the plot, disinterested in the theme and ideas, and worst of all, bored by the entire story.

In the story “curious incident of the boy in the night-time”, Christopher the protagonist in the story has a condition called Asperger syndrome and uses this to solve mysteries and to find his mother. Despite the stigma concerning autism and Aspergers, Christopher’s condition proves advantageous on his journey. The 3 most advantageous character traits that Christopher possesses and uses in the book are his memory , logic, and his independence.

In the novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time Christopher is the narrator and the main character at the same time. He is not the average person in a common sense we consider people around us. From what I learned, Christopher is a 15 year old boy with a mental disability akin to autism. Being highly intellectual for his age, he still has difficulties of socializing as a teenager; moreover, he experiences difficulties in understanding the emotional context of inter-human communications and relations, which leads him to overreacting in many situations. In the book, Christopher offers the reader to look at the world with his own eyes.

The actors feel a certain level of acceptance from the viewer, who demands a certain way of depicting the character.
