Out of all the animals in the world, only certain species are classified as “endangered”. One of these endangered animals are classified to be a part of their own unique family. This family is called “Ailuridae”. Living in the wild, these animals live about eight to ten years. Living in a zoo, or with provided care this animal can live up to 40 years. This animal is an herbivore, and it only feeds on plants. This animal is known as the red panda. Scientifically, the red pandas name is “Ailurus Fulgens”. They also have been called the “fire fox”. Red pandas are relatives of giant pandas, raccoons, and cats. On average, red pandas live eight to ten years in the wild. They live in high elevation ranges, and they mostly live in mountainous area. Red pandas are dwarfed by the giant panda. In other words, the red panda is much smaller than the giant panda, but it is extremely similar to a normal panda. They grow to be around the size of the average house cat, with the exception of having an extremely large, and long tail. The red pandas extremely long tail comes in handy at times. The tail is used as a blanket, and it is used to keep the animal warm. The length of the body ranges from 32- 46 inches or about 3-4 feet. The head and body length is 20-26 inches which is about 2 feet. The tail is 12- 20 inches which is 1-2 feet. Red pandas, on average, weigh 7-13 pounds.
