Chemistry Effects On Environment Chemistry is “the study of composition properties, and reactions of matter particularly at the level of atoms and molecules”. (dictionary.com) There are many branches to chemistry for example organic and inorganic, physical chemistry and environmental chemistry.
Environmental chemistry is the study chemical process that occurs in the environment that are affected by human activities. Chemistry has many effects on the environment good and bad; from chemicals polluting the environment to chemicals filtering the water to be safe to drink. The study of environmental chemistry is essentially a way to help better the environment, and use methods that are less toxic to better and understand the environment.
How chemistry has a big impact on the environment is without chemistry the environment may not thrive as well without out. The amount of impact depends on what type of concentration it is and the amount that was released. Chemicals can enter the air, soil,
1. An understanding of chemistry is important for an understanding of biology because biology needs the models of chemistry to better describe life.
Chemistry relates to everything we touch, see, smell, hear, and taste because atoms make up everything in the universe. Chemistry influences so much in our everyday lives that it is hard to think of an activity that does not involve a chemical process in some way. The science also plays a major role in the human body. Our bodies are made up of chemicals, in fact almost 96% of our body mass is made up of four different elements: hydrogen, oxygen, carbon, and nitrogen. Besides the physical way I am affected by elements, chemistry also majorly affects me in my line of work as a certified nursing assistant. As a certified nursing assistant I work in a nursing home and
I would have to agree chemistry is a central science because it can be used in different aspects of science such as biology, medicine, physics and more. It brings a lot of the sciences together. Chemistry connects those other parts of science such as physical science. An example would be the makeup of how medicine is created and also how the body chemistry uses the medicine into the body.
The Ancient Greeks were the firsts to speculate on the composition of matter. They thought that it was possible that individual particles made up matter.
Chemicals harm the growth of plants and animals, chemicals can lead animals to death. Many of the water animals
When studying chemisty, you must grasp how reactions can form acids or bases, as well as what effect that has on pH. A basic understanding of chemistry is important in biology, because living things are composed of matter.
As a kid, out of curiosity, I used to study the ingredients in household chemicals. A lot of dangerous substances had very useful applications. Chlorine, for example, is both a poison to humans and the thing that makes pools swimmable. This kind of paradox about common household chemicals and what they do to water is what led me to take rigorous science courses in high school, where I nurtured my passion for chemistry, as well as biology, and physics. I participated in chemistry league competitions and Olympiads as a way to build my knowledge piece by piece, like building lego. I studied atomic structure, covalent bonds and ionization energy asking myself: Why? How do molecules stick to each other? When would it be advantageous to unstick them?
Chemistry is the study of the composition, behaviour and properties of matter, and of the elements of the Earth and its atmosphere.
Chemical reactions are either villains of society which create problems for human health or the environment; or they can be heroes, used to solve problems of the environment. An example of a chemical reaction that is harmful for humans and the environment would be the burning of fossil fuels that ultimately lead to acid precipitation. This posses large issues to ecosystems in lakes by raising their pH level. One way of solving the issue of acid rain in lakes is to add the base calcium hydroxide. This would be an example of a chemical reaction that is used to solve the problems in our environment. Another chemical hero would be preventing acid rain by converting unhealthy and damaging gases into ones that are harmless to the environment.
Chemistry plays a great role in our daily life. Everything in our lives from material to life involves chemistry. Life without chemical elements cannot be imagined. They are the makeup of many things around us and play apart in many primary functions. For instance, to do metabolism, almost 99% of our body weight contains the element, 65% oxygen, 18% carbon, 10% Hydrogen 3% nitrogen and so on. Elements make up DNA and RNA which are the building blocks for genetic materials. Although, they are used for breathing and are essentials components for nutrition. Besides this, elements are used to make nuclear weapons and technologies such as computers, TVs, and mobile phones.
Meanwhile, Analytical chemistry is the branch of chemistry involved with studying of materials, and their properties, as well as developing tools to analyze materials, and physical chemistry is the branch of chemistry that applies physics to the study of chemistry. Then lastly, biochemistry is the branch of chemistry concerned with the chemical reactions that occur inside living organisms.
Chemistry has been called the science of what things are. Its intent is the exploration of the nature of the materials that fabricate our physical environment, why they hold the different properties that depict them, how their atomic structure may be fathomed, and how they may be manipulated and changed.
Toxicology is the study of the negative effects of chemicals on living organisms. It is the study of symptoms, treatments, and detection of poisoning. Especially the poisoning of human-beings.
In today’s society chemicals, whether you like it or not are a fact of life. Many people are afraid of chemicals and their effects on them and the environment. This is understandable because the truth of the matter is that chemicals can do some horrible things to humans, animals and the whole ecosystem. Some would say that chemicals should be done away with for these reasons. But this certainly is not true and most likely impossible. Chemicals can also have some very positive effects on our lives. Some uneducated people would argue that there should not be restrictions on chemicals. This is just as crazy as saying that chemicals should be done away with. If chemicals are regulated and people abide
The specific contaminants leading to pollution in water include a wide spectrum of chemicals, pathogens, and physical or sensory changes such as elevated temperature and discoloration. While many of the chemicals and substances that are regulated may be naturally occurring (calcium, sodium, iron, manganese,
