Typically a person in a modern society that is industrialized can have a bigger ecological footprint than a person in a society that is not as developed and where certain resources have not reached. It surprised me very much because when I first went on the website I took the basic quiz first just to get an idea of what the point of the test was, and I got a total of 5 planet earths. Once I was done I thought for sure that I would get a lot less if I had to put in details, so I answered everything honestly and it only decreased by .4 planets. I was also surprised because for a few questions my answers were “infrequently”, or “occasionally” which I thought would help.

Only to arrive at one reasonable conclusion: Both genes and the environment are important in shaping a person’s behavior. However, individuals are not spared from these and are susceptible to environmental influences. Depending on how their family is structured to how their culture is structured. Nearly every phase of an individual's life teaches a lesson on how to adapt to the world. Parents purposely choose to teach certain ethical views or ideas to their families. These ideas are a crucial part of their heritage or history. Environment can affect morals, etiquette, and quality of life.

With industries booming, meant more pollution affecting natural resources. DDT was helping to save millions of lives from fatal disease, but there was minimal evidence as to how harmful this insecticide was for both humans and animals. In our study about human impact on the amount of plastic in the environment, we discovered some very interesting results. In our study, we walked through the streets of Sisters, Oregon. We went into the local businesses to talk to them about their usage of plastic bags or paper bags. We wanted to see just how much of Sisters was using only paper bags. We asked them to provide an approximate number of paper and plastic bags that they give out to customers on a daily basis. We explained to them some of the bad effects of plastic bags on the environment. If the owner was only using plastic bags, then we suggested ideas to limit the plastic bags, such as a punch card for those who choose to avoid the usage of plastic bags. With technology continuing to push the envelope and human population rising, our reach continues to grow along with our carbon footprint. In return, our expansion may be causing nature to retreat. So how can we combat this decline? In today’s modern age, human interference may be necessary to preserve what’s left of nature because of what happens to the environment in consequence to human advancements.

The United States and the world are starting to encounter lots of complicated environmental problems that all stem from human influence. Humans have been abusing our environment and have been carelessly taking its resources. It’s absurd for people not to have greater concern when its comes to how we are treating our environment. Climate change is real, pollution is real, and lots of plant and animal species are diminishing at an alarming rate; furthermore, this issue can improve substantially if we start making some better, more ethical decisions. We should not only be concerned with our own lives, but we should be thinking about how our actions toward the environment will affect our children and how it affects other species on this planet.
