There have been many stories about women and their right to vote, and up until August 18, 1920, women did not have these rights. The stories, The Yellow Wallpaper and Story of an Hour talk about how women are trapped and they want to be free. They also state that their husbands are controlling their lives and not letting them fend for themselves. Both women wanted to be free and to be in control of their own lives. In The Yellow Wallpaper a married women is moved to a vacation house for around a month. While she is there she contracts a disease called postpartum depression and is told by her husband to stay in bed. Like the title says the room had yellow wallpaper. She sees herself as trapped in the wallpaper and is unable to be free. At night she is able to roam around without her husband telling her what she can or cannot do. She starts seeing herself inside the wallpaper, trapped with no way out. …show more content…

The both want freedom and try to grasp onto it. In The Yellow Wallpaper the spouse wanted freedom and didn't receive it until the husband was asleep; and in The Story of an Hour the widow did receive freedom after the news of her husband's death. Just for it to be stripped from her at the sight of her husband in the doorway. Also, in both stories it talks about women suffrage. The stories talk about how every women even them struggles to get the freedom the disserve. It is even in Susan B. Anthony’s speech. It talks about how the constitution says,”We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America;” and does not say anything about women not having any
