The Black Panther party was founded by Huey Newton and Bobby Seale in 1966. “The Panthers placed militant self-defense of minority communities against the U.S Government, and fought to establish revolutionary socialism through mass organizing and community-based program.”(Baggins, Brian. Black Panther Party, www.marxists.org/history/usa/workers/black-panthers/.). During the 1960’s the civil rights movement was at its full strength. The BPP fought for change in America for African Americans and even other minority groups too. They wrote the Black Panther: Ten Pointe Program in the book “War Against the Panthers” by Huey Newton. It was a list of “wants” they believe they deserved from the government. For example, point 2 in the list said “ We want full employment for our people”, during this time period many African Americans and other minority groups were being discriminated against by not being hired by the business owners. Housing is a sign of wealth and power, and many minority families couldn’t have the opportunity to live in a home they owned in the 1960s. So many minority families didn't have the same opportunities as white families did in the 60s. Many tenants had to deal with crazy codes and rent because landlords could take advantage of there tenants because of there skins. In the 1960s housing regulations weren’t strong, and people could take advantage of people because of there skin. So people did. Minority groups couldn’t fight back but they had The Black Panther party to fight for them. In the Panther’s 10 point program one of the points talk about housing. Point 10 states “We Want Land, Bread, Housing, Education, Clothing, Justice, And Peace.” This shows that the Panthers believed hard enough to put housing into there 10 point program and fight for
