Rebuilding Infrastructure and Improving Access to Employment in Post Crisis Côte d’Ivoire. The Emergency Renewal Project (IDA, 2016) was implemented as an aid for $100 million dollars that was given to the country to help them to build and reconstruct their basic infrastructure and to reduce the unemployment rate after over a decade of civil war that reached an end in 2010 when Alassane Ouattara was elected president, former president Laurent Gbagbo refused to quit which provoked a period of violence that left around 3,000 people dead and 500,000 displaced (BBC, 2017). This project was handled by the IDA and later other organizations such as the IMF, the French Development Agency and the EU joined the project and donated to …show more content…
These are not direct consequences of the IDA project but remains of decades of conflict in the country and a much bigger effort need to be done to help this country to set itself free from the war shadow. Plan PAZcifico: Water Supply and Basic Sanitation Infrastructure and Service Delivery Project This project granted Colombia government with a total of $251 million dollars loan economic aid with the objective of developing coverage of basic sanitation and water supply to the Pacific area specifically in Tumaco (World Bank, 2017), one of the frontlines in the war that the country has suffered for over 50 years, with a sanitation and water supply coverage of only 25% which evidences the historical abandonment of the government in the area, the project aims to increase that coverage until 50%. (Unidad Nacional para la Gestión del Riesgo de Desastres, 2016)This is the first line of 3 steps project to aid in the reconstruction of the country in the post-war. The project is still under development but according to the World Data Bank, but as of the 15th of September of 2017 the

The construction industry has been around since the beginning of civilization and since that time people have continually tried to find better ways to build. The speed with which the construction industry moves is unlike any other. Things are done very differently than they were 20 years ago, and things will likely be done in a new way 10 years from now. The vast history and seemingly exponential growth of the industry means people must find innovative ways to gain an advantage. Drone technology has expanded in recent years from military innovations to civilian applications, and while it may not appear personal drones provide much benefit to the construction industry, their limitless applications yield innumerous opportunities on a jobsite. This paper explores some of the many uses a drone can have to advance the construction industry, as well as the liabilities which also come with this new technology. This paper will focus on the areas of efficiency, safety and security; how drone uses can make jobsites run smoother and safer, while also recognizing how drones will add the long list of concerns contractors face on a daily basis.
Thanks to the United Nations general assembly recognizing the need for clean water in Resolution 64/292, the states and international organizations have been called on to provide funding and resources to help developing countries provide safe, clean, affordable, and accessible water to all. This is a step in the right direction, seeing as women and children in some countries have to walk more than 30 minutes to collect water- if there is any water to collect at all.
1. Name and briefly describe each of the two basic types of competitively bid construction contracts. Which type would be most likely used for building the piers to support a large suspension bridge. Why?
I am thrilled to work with these multiple services to assist the wellbeing of the Ethiopian community. I plan to focus on supporting education, health, Emergency Health Services, and clean drinking water for communities and families. I have focused most of my time and profits into Emergency Help for displaced people. This will assist some of the many people who are unable to provide for their family; whether they are homeless or unhired currently and cannot invest in a healthcare program, drugs, medication, etc. I pride myself in committing to assisting the Ethiopian community under any circumstances and I assure you that I will execute my task. UNICEF has provided me with $54, 750 dollars and I plan to take action in using this money in the most productive way possible for the families and people in need. I have also donated one dollar of my own money in order to reach the needed amount of money to fulfill the charges. Thank you for you time!
According to an article on the Indiana State University website over the construction started in 2010, of the 12 major construction projects due to finish, only one of them concerned the well-being of our disabled students. Brought to the universities attention and fixed, the 2 lecture halls in Holmstedt Hall were finally accessible to our disabled students. Does this mean that if we have halls and buildings that are not accessible that our campus has the threat of having more construction in the near future? With this, does it mean that until the construction is complete, our disabled students will struggle even more?
Sierra Leone had been considered a fragile state even before its civil war from 1991-2002, this is because it had “weak capacity and will to provide security and deliver services to its population” (Pickering, 2009, p20). The decade during the civil war was overwhelmed by huge human rights abuses, lack of coherent governments, weak social security structures and masses of violence (Evoe, 2008, p2).. A number of peace efforts were generated by international institutions, none of which were extensively effective throughout all of Sierra Leone. Despite these difficulties, the intervention in Sierra Leone is considered a noteworthy success for the United Nations peacebuilding mission. The main objective of peacebuilding missions is to ‘rebuild’ failing and weak states (Cubitt, 2013, p91) and to “prevent violence from recurring in countries that are just emerging from civil conflict” (Paris, 2002, p637). The UN mission in Sierra Leone is widely regarded as an example of successful peacebuilding in a war torn country. The mission facilitated a transition from, a failing state to a moderately peaceful state. This mission is held as an example of successful intervention, and is often used as a means to justify the benefits of UN peacebuilding and peacekeeping missions.
On Monday, June 5th, president of the United States, Donald Trump, kicked off “infrastructure week”, an unplanned event, at the White House. According to the White House, Trump had dedicated the week to addressing America’s “crumbling infrastructure”. On Monday, Trump announced his support for an initiative to privatize the nation’s air traffic control system, hoping that more expensive, advanced technologies would be available if the sector operated more like a business. He endorsed the concept of moving air traffic operations out of the Federal Aviation Administration and into a self-financing non-profit organization, stating, “Our plan will get you where you need to go more quickly, more reliably, more affordably, and yes, for the first
One hundred and twenty thousand dead and 1 Million refugees were the result of a 36-year guerrilla war. The war ended in the early 1990’s, but that still came with great costs such as disease and famine. Republica has seen minor improvements such as life expectancy, but even with these minor improvements that are being made, this country has a long way to go.
As mentioned above, the number of funds should be $75,000 at the beginning, and numbers of funding methods could be utilised to obtain the funds, including funding from governments, crowd
The government launched a number of reconstruction and rehabilitation activities such as leading demining activities with the purpose of reducing High Security Zones (HSZ) and other programs to implement new livelihood activities for resettled civilians. The GOSL exposes, “The government’s priority has been the resettlement of the approximately 300,000 IDP’s, while ensuring that they are provided adequate shelter, food, security and livelihood support.” To enable the rural poor to improve their livelihood and quality of life, the government was able to establish interim camps for all internally displaced people (IDP) after the war, including ex-LTTE cadres. All interim camps were provided with basic needs of the IDPs including food, shelter, medical facilities and other sanitation
The United Nations High Commission on Refugees (UNHCR) estimates that 250,000 IDP’s are displaced because of the conflict in South Sudan. Lizabeth Paulat, a member of Truthout, a think tank, writes that the violence is directly causing a potentially massive famine within the region. “This threat of starvation is not occurring because of a natural scarcity, or even a political attempt to starve out opponents,” says Paulat, “rather, this is an issue of South Sudan’s internal refugees, forced to flee their homes to escape violence.” With such a high volume of IDP’s and a projected record breaking famine, the international community must intervene to assist President Kiir and the South Sudanese Government.
Larkin put "The Building" in the middle of his collection for a reason, it is a pillar that supports the rest of the collection with its long lines and many verses, and because of this, is maybe a bit more clearer than some of his other poems in the ideas and views that are expressed through it. Of course, being a Larkin a poem, there is the obligatory underlayer which so many people miss, but in "The Building" it is easier to discern and comprehend.
The construction industry in Australia has over the recent three years provided increased employment thereby improving the economic financial performance. This has been fueled primarily by middle market construction firms. However, forecast shows that the total non-residential construction would fall between 2014 and 2016 due to falling levels of investment on project activities. The economic deficits incurred in the construction industry would be offset by investments in the telecommunication and commercial construction, especially in apartment building.
Finally, many tools were used to document our site visits that would used during the modeling of the buildings. As stated before, PlanGrid was very useful when viewing the construction sheets. PlanGrid was used on an iPad for easy access during the site visit. The iPad, as well as our phones, was used to take pictures of any notable changes or major features of the buildings. The pictures were used as references during the modeling portion of the project. A measuring tape was also used to take the dimensions of sections of the buildings that were not clearly labeled on the construction sheets. For example, the Architecture Annex’s terrance needed a measuring tape to measure its dimensions because the top-down view was absent from the
