My ultimate career goal is to become a dental hygienist. My secondary education and my personal qualities, including time-management, organization, precision, and caring, will help me achieve my career goal as well as other goals.
I chose dental hygiene as my career choice because I have been interested in it ever since I was a little girl. I have always enjoyed going to the dentist to get my teeth cleaned and learn about the types of procedures dental hygienist perform. To achieve the goal of becoming a dental hygienist I will first receive my diploma from Sargent Central Public School this spring. Then, this upcoming fall I plan to attend North Dakota State College of Science. I chose this institution because it’s not simply the only institution that has a dental hygiene program in North Dakota, but it is also close to home and smaller in size. My first year in college I will take pre-dental hygiene classes to further my knowledge on science, business, and other necessary subjects. My second year I plan to begin the dental program where I will learn how to clean teeth, examine patients gums and teeth, educate them on ways to improve and

I pursue a career in dentistry because I have realized that it will be a challenge to me. As a junior in highschool I was given an opportunity to a year long course held by ROP to receive a technical career as a dental assistant. I could not let this opportunity pass, I had to take it. I am now able to utilize my knowledge and skills to volunteer in nonprofit organizations within the dental field as well as in dental offices. Compassion and determination have been my leading traits and driving forces for becoming a dentist.
My whole life, it has been apparent to those around me that I would be a dentist. I am highly inquisitive, passionate, compassionate, experienced, and I love teeth. I remember getting so excited to have my teeth cleaned as a child because my trips to the dentist were so much fun! At a young age, my mother instilled the importance of oral hygiene care. To this day, I wonder if it was the dentist, dental hygienist, or just the dental office ambiance that had me engaged as a young child. Almost immediately after graduating high school, I went to school to become a registered dental assistant and at that point, I figured out that I possess good manual dexterity, which is a fundamental skill to be efficient in the dental field. At the same time, I unlocked the key to my calling, passion. Six years later, I realized I had the potential to
Being a dental hygienist was not the career I grew up believing I would pursue. At a young age, up to my Junior year in high school, I had my goals set on being a veterinarian. Going into high school I widened that plan into any job dealing with animal science. However, taking classes like zoology, botany, equine science, veterinary technology and advanced animal science, made me realize that I would not have as much direct contact or personal connections with the animals as I had hoped. However I found that being a dental hygienist gives me the opportunity to have that direct contact and personal connections with my patients.
Ever since I was in middle school, I would tell everyone that I was going to become a dentist. That was my career plan until the summer of my junior year. During that summer, I had the opportunity to do an internship and job shadow Dr. Bradshaw at his private dental office. While observing and talking to the doctor, I realized that I would not enjoy working as a dentist. I still wanted to pursue a career in the dental field so I decided to job shadow the dental hygienists. Watching the dental hygienists perform their duties and interact with patients made me want to pursue a career in dental hygiene. I knew very little about dental hygienists besides the fact that they clean teeth. As I spent time with the dental hygienists, I learned more each day. While researching for this paper, I became knowledgeable on even more information. From reading The Occupational Outlook Handbook and A Career as a Dental

This means that the academic requirements to be a Dentist are quite time consuming, but the

My plans after completing high school is attending Southern University Shreveport Louisiana (SUSLA) or Stephen F. Austin State University (SFA) to become a dental hygienist. The entry level for this occupation is an associate’s degree and it takes up to three years to complete. A dental hygienist clean teeth, examine patients for signs of oral diseases such as gingivitis, and provide dental care. I have already started working on the path to reach my future occupation by taking up a dental assisting class at the Caddo Career & Technology Center (CC&TC).
Over the past two years since I started working as a dental assistant at Kidwell and Albus Dentistry, watching and learning from the doctors, hygienists and assistants as well as helping them. I have realized that there is a lot of joy, and satisfaction when I help the patients improve their dental hygiene and provide the best service possible along with my coworkers. I have gained a lot of experience about what the job entails, the benefits, drawbacks, and ultimately concluded that dental hygienist is the career path that I want to pursuit at this moment in my life, mainly because of three reasons which are professional fulfillment, financial stability, and time flexibility.
Dental Hygiene is very important to me and has been since I was a child, this has influenced my desire of becoming a pediatric dentist. In a personal interview i conducted with Dr.Bills she informed me of this, “Dental Hygiene is emphasized by all dentists, we want our patients to have elegant white teeth and pleasant breath”(Bills). I would like to teach children the importance of keeping their teeth brushed so that they will have a beautiful smile and healthy teeth. Pediatric Dentistry is a superb fit for me because I care about dental health and I want children to know the importance as well. It is never too early for children to learn how important dental hygiene is.
From a very early age, I had a natural affinity for teeth. I wanted to know how they form, and differ in other individuals. As a toddler, I would grab hold of the staff’s teeth at my local daycare and attempt my own version of a dental inspection. It came quite apparent to my mother that either I had a serious fetish or I was finding a passion for a future profession. Even though my mother loved my curious personality, she wanted me to understand that there are boundaries that I must adhere too. Over time, I stopped playing with stranger’s mouths and started using my hands for more important duties. On Saturdays, after soccer practice, my father would drive us to food banks to volunteer our time. During my time as a volunteer, I did such activities such as feeding the homeless, packing boxes of food for families in need, and assisting the building of homes with habitat humanity. Thankfully, I could continue my development as a community leader throughout college and adulthood.
