Does What's in One's Pants Define Who One is?
Transgender citizens are no outsider to the culture citizens live in: the conception of not feeling constrained or comfortable in one's gender or sex has been discussed and observed for many years. In today's society one observes and perceives many different types of people. One may see different races, different sex, and also, different traditions. Our world is full of divergent people. As citizens of The United States people have their own personal rights as an American citizen. Although there is innumerable amount of problems with the system today there are pro's and con's to both sides of the situation that is to be taken into consideration and a solution.
American citizens are arguing

Pursuing this further, American citizen are saying this debate is inappropriate. Some say that for a man or women to be in the opposite sex bathroom are wrongful actions. Although, Americans know this country is for equality for all some still refuse for this to be pursued.
Another reason why, people are against transgender bathroom use is restroom etiquette and manners. Even though, this request may not be imprecise people are going as far back as saying manners of men and women should be respected. Women should use the women's restroom and men should use the men's restroom.
Although there are two sides of this issue there are also compromising solutions that can be taken affect. Unisex bathrooms are a compromise the United States could take in consideration to end the debate of this issue. Unisex bathrooms are a restroom that people of any gender or gender individuality are authorized to use. Therefore, the transgender bathroom use problem would become instinct with time. People wouldn’t feel obligated to use just one bathroom and would have a choice. When a human decides who they want to be as an American and equality rights one should have the right to choose who they are. Having an all gender restroom would allow the transgenders to be who they want to be without there being a fight and disagreements.
To sum it all up, there are differences and different beliefs and the topic of transgender restroom use. Some people believe everyone
Americans are still divided on transgender rights and identity. In a new study from Pew Research Center, 46% of respondents said transgender said transgender people should be required presumably by law, to “use the public restroom of the gender they were born with”, 51% of those surveyed said the opposite- that transgender people should be able to use the bathroom, of their choice. Forcing people to use the bathroom that they were born with can be humiliating, and that’s why we need to come together and have gender neutral bathrooms.
It’s not hard to say that America has come so far into society and our freedom. How can our country forget when slavery ended in 1865 and gave women more rights in 1920. However, over time America has ignored the basic rights of transgender people. Transgender people are not any different from African Americans, or women. Why should they be treated any different, they're humans just like everybody else. They deserve the same basic treatment as a human rather than being treated like they're not from this planet. There are transgender people today who are getting harassed and tormented for just going into the bathroom for what they identify as. They should be able to go into a bathroom for which gender they identify as. Rather than making special bathrooms for transgender people that make them stand out and feel like they’re labeling themselves for using.
It's easy for people to hate what they don't understand. Imagine if you were learning how to play the guitar, and no matter how many times you practice and study the right chords, you just can't seem to grasp the concept, and there is nothing wrong with that. Plenty of people happen to have this mindset when it comes to transgender people. There is this constant debate concerning transgender men and women and their rights. In some cases, they are expected to abide by certain requirements in order to full change their gender and aren't granted the right to use the bathroom based on their gender identity.
There are around 1.4 million transgenders around the United States. Through the years there have been debates whether transgender people should be permitted to use bathrooms and locker rooms based on their gender identity. A lot of people are afraid of sharing bathrooms with transgender because there might be people who could take advantage of this law and sexually harass or assault other individuals. The transgender bathroom issues should be a law in every state because transgender people are human beings and their rights should also be protected just like everyone else.
The changing norms of the generation has brought upon commotion between various states because of the presidents judgement. The transgender bathroom policy allows transgender students to use the bathroom they identify as and not by the sex on their birth certificate (Fox News, 2016). The transgender bathroom policy has both successes and failure to ensure safety for transgender students resulting to its change being for not only trans-gender. Gender neutral bathrooms allows safety for those who are not only transgender, but also a part of the LGBTQ community, etc. but it causes a conflict with gender segregation. Adding additional bathrooms to suite other gender preferences costs more money and not everyone is going to accept what they walk into the bathroom and see. The gender neutral bathroom policy should be taken off of hold and be put into action because everything is constantly changing and those who do not identify as the sex they were assigned at birth are at risk for harm.
These kind of people want to and will try to make someone’s life as hard as possible simply because they see this subject differently. The simple, daily task of using the bathroom is a breeze for any typical person. Unfortunately, this task comes across as a intimidating adversary to a trans person simply because one can be conflicted with which restroom to use. For many trans people, entering a gender-specific bathroom can be a source of stress and anxiety, because using the restroom can mean very real health and safety concerns. Harassment of trans people in and around gender-specific bathrooms can range from denial of use to police intervention to verbal threats and physical assault.
People tend to look passed the ones whom this debate affects. A survey was taken of over 2,000 transgender college students on the effects of the bathroom debate. This survey showed that the suicide attempt rate "increased 40% among those who said they had been denied access to a bathroom" (Scherer et al n.p.). People who are not considered normal by societal standards may have a hard time coping with the hate they receive. This hate can lead to extremes such as the attempt to commit suicide. The allowance or denial of access to a bathroom led to an increase in suicide attempt rates. Those not affected by the issue do not realize the emotional and physical hardship that transgender people go through. In Washington, D.C., a survey of 100 transgender people was taken. In this survey, "70% said they had been denied restroom access or harassed, and 58% said they has avoided going out in public because they feared being able to find a bathroom" (Scherer et al n.p.). The accommodations of both sides of the debate would allow everyone to feel safer in his or her own community. Family restrooms allow complete privacy and do not discrimination based on gender. Access to these types of facilities would never be denied. Allowing people access to the bathroom they choose opened an entire new side of the issue in
Some in favor of transgender bathrooms claim that anyone can be anything they want. Although this is true, you can’t just eat someone because you think you are a lion, and the same goes with gender. Olipocket on debate.org argued, “If you have a penis, regardless of what you look like on the outside, then you need to use the men's room. If you have a vagina, regardless of what you look like on the outside, then you need to use the women's room.” This proves that no matter who you think you are, it can’t top who you really are. If you are really a man then you use the men’s bathroom. It’s that simple. Not only is this common sense, it also protects people’s privacy. Women don’t want men looking at them in the bathroom. So, in order to avoid complexity in the laws, if you have male parts, you go in the men’s and same with women. Next, Dann states, “The transgendered person however is NOT a woman, and unfortunately never will be. They have created their own artificial gender - Transgender. They still possess an Adam's apple. They still possess other immutable male qualities too. Although they may see themselves as women, the rest of the world and, most importantly, those who they will be allowed to share that most private of places, the bathroom, with, won’t see them as such.” Even transgender women are artificial. They aren’t real. Even if they have a fake vagina,
Why should a grown man be allowed to use the same restroom as a little girl? Well, the answer to that is, simply, there is no evidence that suggests any kind of negative effects on cis-gendered people by allowing transgender people to use the bathroom of their choice. Recently, the store Target has announced that they will allow transgender people to use the bathroom of their choice. While many have supported this, a petition has arisen to boycott Target because of their decision. This petition has gained over one million signatures. Many of those who support it argue that a grown adult male should not be allowed to share a restroom with their daughters, sisters, wives, and mothers. Why? Because it makes the women uncomfortable? Just like it
The U.S. federal government is backing the issue of gender neutral bathrooms. As Lisa Rein, publisher of an article in The Washington Post, writes, “The federal government is strongly urging employers to give transgender employees access to bathrooms that correspond to their gender identity, marking a new policy front
Some people have a problem with transgender people using the ¨wrong restroom.¨ In the article “Seat of Unrest” by Sara GoodYear she explains that ¨The board is voting on whether he should be allowed to use the boys restroom at Gloucester High
Just because it’s not right doesn't mean there is a perfect solution for it. People can’t dictate how other people feel. Since there are so many rebuttals for every argument on either side, it can be difficult to resolve. The only resolution is to get used to it. As people learn, hear, and observe things around them constantly, it becomes normal to them. Since there are more and more people becoming transgender, people are getting more used to the idea. Hopefully, that will not influence other people to become transgender. Said by Emma Green, “As more Americans learn about what it means to be transgender or meet people who identify that way, it’s possible they’ll become more comfortable with the idea of transgender people using the bathroom that corresponds with their current gender identity.” Although there will be a lot of stubborn people not willing to get used to it, maybe the fact that no matter how hard someone tries, they can't change their sex. The sex of someone is in their genes, XX for females, and XY for males. Someone can get surgery and appear like a female or male, but if you were born a female, it’s impossible to change your sex (Ritchie, John). People on Debate.org say, “Everybody should feel happy and whether that is being transgender or not, who cares! Let them live their life in happiness and peace without having people against them” (“should-we-support-transgender-equality-in-schools”). Everyone wants to
To put it in the simplest form, there is a need for change. Transgender bathroom regulations blatantly oppress transgender individuals all around the nation in many ways. Since the national uprising over transgender bathroom policies Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning (LGBTQ) individuals have been impacted greatly. Heath complications, increase in suicides, and undeniable discrimination are a few of the negative impacts these policies have had on LGBTQ people. These individuals, although very significantly affected, are not the only targets impacted as a result of these policies. Loss in revenue, possible lawsuits, and travel bands are among the many consequences felt in the states where these draconian laws were passed.
A long side sports there is also another controversy with transgender rights. There are boy’s bathrooms and girl’s bathrooms, but girls are wanting to use boys and the other way around. Many stores such as Target, Starbucks, and many more have just gotten rid of assigned bathrooms all together. In most cases it is still not enough, many transgender rights activist want it want
When someone calls themself transgender, it means that they do not identify with the gender they were assigned at birth. For example, someone who was born as a man may later realize that they are in fact a woman; this person would be called a trans woman. There is much debate over transgenderism and, specifically, whether society should treat transgenders as their biological sex or their gender identity. For example, if a transgender man (biological sex being female) wants to use the men’s restroom, should he be able to? The laws that would allow this are known as transgender inclusion laws, and the debate over passing such laws has always been extremely heated. Transgender inclusion laws should be passed in all areas, as there has been no increase in crime rates as a result of transgender use of public facilities, transgenderism is absolutely real and should be recognized as such, and these laws only brings benefits for any trans-friendly environments.
