There are many disorders that a female can go through from just the reproductive system. The one I am going to describe is called Endometriosis. Endometriosis is a condition in which the endometrial tissue appears outside the endometrial cavity. Endometrial tissue is found in the ovaries, the fallopian tubes, and the uterus. This condition affects about 40% to 60% of women in the United States. Women who have this disorder may experience painful menstruation, displaced tissue bleeds each month and forms endometrial crust, in which can cause the development of endometrial cysts. The cyst can rupture and cause future reproduction of tissue.

Well the most effective way to treat endometriosis is through surgery. Surgery is used to remove then endometrium tissue that has grown outside of the uterus lining where it is supposed to be. Surgery is used to burn the endometrium lesion that is outside of the uterus to the endometriosis to go away and most proven way to improve pain symptoms with endometriosis. But some people are not comfortable doing the surgery so the use medication to control the pain and some symptoms. Some medication that the doctors may prescribe is ibuprofen or non- steroidal medication, or they may prescribe women medication that effects a women’s hormones to help with the pain.The following is how women live with endometriosis on a daily basis. When not being treated and living with endometriosis can be very painful and could cause you to be tired more often and not want to get out of the house it can put you in a bad mood (grouchy, cranky, upset, sad, angry, etc.). When being treated with endometriosis by medication you may not feel as much pain you will be in happier moods (excited, anxious, happy, etc.) and want to go do things and be active other than saying in bed all day, when being treated for endometriosis you might have to take medications once or twice a day to control the symptoms. Endometriosis can impact women greatly. They will face many challenges throughout the journey of having endometriosis. A woman with endometriosis will have many problems relating her physical health. One being she will be infertile and struggle to become pregnant. This will me hard when she is trying to have a baby and she might have to have surgery to remove the endometriosis tissue but it’s not always certain that they will become pregnant, although a percentage of women do. Endometriosis affects 10% of reproductive-age women (Yale School of Medicine). It affects nearly 176 million women, ranging from 15-49, all over the world (World Endometriosis, 2011). “Endometriosis is an often painful disorder in which tissue that normally lines the inside of your uterus — the endometrium — grows outside your uterus (endometrial implant) (Mayo Clinic, 2013)” It most commonly involves your ovaries and the lining of the pelvis, but in extreme cases can spread to other parts of the body. The displaced tissue continues to act like it normally would in the uterus, thickening and breaking down with each menstrual cycle. Since the displaced tissue has nowhere to go, it becomes trapped with no way to get out (Mayo Clinic, 2013).

Endometriosis- This condition is only present in women. It occurs when endometrial tissue (the lining of the uterine which sheds each period), grows on the outside of the uterus and is attached to reproductive or abdominal organs. This compromises normal functioning of the fallopian tubes through blockage. Endometrial cells also occasionally secrete substances that may interfere with sperm and egg interaction therefore preventing fertilization.

Those who are not sure what it means, often worry about it and search the web endlessly for answers. The truth is, no one knows what causes it to form, though one theory is that instead of menstruation flowing out the way it should, it may flow backward into the woman’s female organs. When this happens, the womb lining becomes displaced into other areas of the body and causes it to thicken over time. The thickening is then called adenomyosis.

It also can cause inflammation and cause the body to form scar tissue and adhesions, tissue that sometimes binds organs together. This scar tissue causes pelvic pain and makes it hard for women to get pregnant. Although there is no cure for Endometriosis, there are a number of treatments for the pain and infertility.

In addition to having to have a presentation in a public forum having to provide visual aids of the female reproductive system to my fellow classmates. I didn’t look forward to that at all. With that being said, I moved forward with my research on the pathologies of the female reproductive system. I did not take long at all to recognize some familiar terminology related to the pathological anomalies of the female reproductive system that I was familiar with. Pathological terminology such as Fibroids (tissue overgrowth) and Endometriosis (pain in the uterine lining).
