If someone in the U.S buys 90 watermelons, how many of those watermelons will he throw away by the end of the week? According to organizations like the Food and Agricultural organization, one-third. Now 30 watermelons out of 90 are already is a wasteful example, but when considering the effect of the total amount around not only in the U.S but most developed countries food waste, it's an insane and ridiculous amount of loss. Amazon acquisition of Whole Foods will have some effects on the market, as prices are projected to go down. Now that $218 billion food waste number might drop, but will the actual food waste drop? It's too early to tell; it will be most likely to cause more people to uncontrollably buy more food than what they need because they can now afford more with their budget. Amazon will stir up the food market, just like it stir up all another market it competes with, and those effects could decide if food waste could be cut or will be increased.

Now losing money is bad, but losing this planet is worse, as food waste contributes to the second largest cause of climate change, methane. According to One Green Planet, even though carbon dioxide, the leading cause of climate change, out numbers methane molecules 5-1, methane molecules tend to trap 100 times more heat than carbon dioxide. Trapping more heat makes methane a worse long-term challenge than carbon dioxide as their effects last longer, defeating climate change will require more patients, something not everyone has. The Atlantic Ocean got a record number of a catastrophic number of hurricanes that caused not other by climate change, and not only devastated multiple cities, to islands like Puerto Rico, but it also left them with no electricity as it destroyed their infrastructure.
