As I headed back to school after the August recess, I was in a somber mood. It was my final year in high school and with the certificate of secondary school examinations closing in, I was still uncertain about it. Earlier on, my mother bid me farewell with words of encouragement for the forthcoming exams. She was bed ridden at that time and in my absence there was no one else who would take care of her but my three younger siblings. I contemplated quitting school and staying home for her sake but she adamantly insisted that I go back. She reassured me that all would be well. However, I would do more in serving and caring for people if my level of skills goes beyond my current scope of practice. This is why I would like to be a physician assistant. Physician assistants do so much as it is a multifaceted health profession. I will have the potential to work in a variety of health care experiences. Also it will offer me a myriad of choices in specialty and with the rigorous high level training that physician assistants are subjected, I want to offer exceptional care service than my current scope of practice. I want to offer a complete care package to my clients inform of performing procedures, health education, counseling, medical diagnosis and prescription. The medical profession I’ve recently decided to pursue was a certified medical assistant. You will need some type of plan before you decide to pursue in anything. It could be as simple as writing down your short and long term goals on a piece of paper .In my case, I always have something that motivates me because that will help me stay focused on achieving my goals. My motivation is knowing I will wake up to something I love doing on a daily basis once I get my career started. Being a Medical Assistant you must be prepared to face the various types of emergencies. Two most common emergencies that a Medical assistant will be facing are seizures and fainting. Other things to keep in mind when applying for these physician assistant programs are things like the GRE and more importantly, the citizenship requirement that may intervene with my plans. Though I have a permit to legally reside and work in the United States, I am not considered a citizen or a permanent resident. This could be a big problem when applying because a requirement listed is that the applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Applicants should be citizens or permanent residents because insurance is required to participate in the clinical rotations. I believe this will be the most difficult part of my journey to becoming a PA but like all the other challenges I have faced due to my legal status, I will overcome it.
