Abortion What is abortion? An abortion is a medical or surgical procedure used to terminate a pregnancy. A medical abortion is an abortion that is brought about by taking medications that will end a pregnancy. (1) A Surgical abortion is an abortion which ends a pregnancy by emptying the uterus (or womb) with special instruments. (1) Some of the reasons for a woman to get an abortion may be that they can't afford a/another child, health reason of the child's or her own safety, social reasons such as unwanted child or not ready for having a child, and rape or incest. Abortions performed in the seven to nine weeks of the first trimester are medical abortions. (2) All abortions after nine weeks are surgical abortions. Surgical abortions are …show more content…
When it comes to the evidence that he uses in his article mostly came from personal evidence with more opinionated evidence. There is very little actual and proven factual evidence, but of what little there is, I can see none that is unbiased. For example " If we consider what it is rather than what it might become, we must acknowledge that the embryo under three months is something far more primitive than a frog or a fish. To compare it to an infant is ludicrous." (4) This is accurate, yet very biased and I feel that it is not very necessary, but does help with his point of view. One influence that I believe affects the way he thinks about this topic may be because he is an objectivist, which is a type of philosophy. For instance ""Rights," in Ayn Rand's words, "do not pertain to a potential, only to an actual being. A child cannot acquire any rights until it is born."" (4) Ayn Rand is the creator of Objectivism and was his mentor; it is because of this that I believe that he is Pro-choice. Since the embryo or fetus is technically not a human being, but an embryo or fetus, and the Metaphysics of Objectivism states that Existence Exists, A is A, a human is a human, an embryo is an embryo...ect... and a embryo is not a human. (5) e. What perception of the topic do I think this author has? B. Kerby Anderson author of Arguments Against Abortion. In the article by Kerby Anderson he uses many different points of views and evidence
The topic of aborting an innocent fetus has been overwhelmingly controversial in the United States. The two sides to this ongoing debate is pro-life advocates and pro-choice advocates. Abortion is the ending of a pregnancy by removing a fetus or embryo before it can survive outside the uterus; whether it is an unplanned or unwanted pregnancy. Abortions are most often performed during the first twenty-eight weeks of pregnancy and can be performed as a medical or surgical procedure. Medical abortions include two types of abortion pills; while the surgical procedures include vacuum aspiration and dilation and evacuation. Ultimately, I am one of the many “pro-lifers”, and I strongly agree that abortion should be illegal because it negatively affects our people. Women across the nation are becoming impregnated and following a short amount of judgement time, turn to abortion to solve their problems but in the end hurt themselves with this decision. Abortions should be illegal because it is immoral and unconstitutional, causes severe mental and physical issues, and negatively impacts the economy. “During the ancient Roman times it has been supposed that abortion and the destruction of unwanted children was permissible, but as our civilization has aged, it seems that such acts were no longer acceptable by rational human beings, so that in 1948, Canada along with most other nations in the world signed a declaration of the United Nations promising every human being the right to life”
Abortion, by definition, is the intended termination of a pregnancy that results in the death of a fetus or embryo. This deliberate medical procedure can be done in two distinctive ways, mainly hinging on how long the woman has been pregnant. A medical abortion is one that is done through prescription medications while being closely monitored by a medical professional. According to Planned Parenthood, Medical abortion, or the abortion pill, can occur up to 9 weeks into a pregnancy, and is performed over a two to three-day period. A woman would be given a hormone blocker called Mifepristone in order to block progesterone, a hormone that vital for pregnancy during the first trimester. A day or so after that, a woman would be given the drug Misoprostol, which is used to shut down the uterus to stop the pregnancy, which results in the woman bleeding heavily and
The medical definition of abortion is the termination of a pregnancy before the fetus is able to survive outside of the womb. The two forms of abortion happens by way of induction; either medically or surgically. The other form of abortion is spontaneous (miscarriage), which happen for various reason such as infection, malnutrition, substance abuse and the age of the mother. According to the Guttmacher Institute, a non-profit public health organization that specializes in research use to promote reproductive and sexual health rights globally, in 2011, induced abortion procedures were use in half of the unplanned pregnancies in the United States (Guttmacher Institute , 2016). Countries where abortion procedures are legalized
The article is interesting, giving to the reader a lot of pieces of information and starting points for a deep reflection, accordingly, my reaction is very positive about Gaiman's opinions.
Forty-two years after the highly controversial case Roe vs. Wade, that made it legal for women to have an abortion, society continues to debate whether or not women should have the right to have an abortion. Judith Jarvis Thomson’s famous article “A Defense of Abortion” defends a women’s right to have an abortion. However, I disagree with Thomson’s defense against abortions, and believe that abortions are highly immoral and should be illegal.
There are many grey areas when it comes to trying to solve the issues on abortion. There have been many different ideas that have sprouted trying to solve the issue on whether or not abortion should be illegal or not. There are many problems with trying to decide whether or not abortion should be illegal because everyone has different views on it. There is no possible way that everyone in the world is going to agree on a certain topic 100% of the way. Many people fight the fact that their rights are being taking from them by telling them what they can and cannot do. No matter what decision is made, there are going to be citizens that do not agree with it. There are three ways that abortion can go. Abortion can either be 100% legal for every woman in the United States, it can be 100% illegal for every woman in the United States, or it can be based on the
In my opinion abortion should be allowed depending on the trimester of the pregnancy and level of safety for the mother. This is neither a religious or legal issue but a personal choice that must be regulated by the laws that govern the body of medical professionals who perform the abortion.
Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy, whether it is naturally (miscarriage) or it can be induced, which is when a woman decides that she does not want to have a baby. Abortion takes place all over the world, for multiple reasons. It started nearly 200 years ago. The reason I chose this topic is because it is commonly debated about & personally, I am pro-life. Or what other people may consider an “antiabortionist”. There are two different abortion types; medical & surgical. A medical abortion consists of, obviously, taking medications. Some of which prevent the growth of increasing cells & others are capable of blinding progesterone & contracting the uterus to where it pushing out the pregnancy. Surgical abortions, on the other hand, consist of numerous approaches. Some of these approaches include using a syringe to suck the embryonic tissues out of a woman’s uterus, & the other one are when the surgeon numbs the cervix, makes it wider, & uses a tube to clean out the uterus. There are two trimesters in a full abortion process. The first trimester is normally when a female is 12 weeks pregnant or less & she’ll go through the basic clinic steps. In the second trimester, depending on how far a woman is in her pregnancy, the doctor will dilate the woman’s cervix.
Abortion is the ending of pregnancy through the removal or forcing out from the womb of a fetus or embryo before it is able to survive on its own. An abortion can occur spontaneously, in which case it is often called a miscarriage. It can also be purposely caused in which case it is known as an induced abortion. The term abortion most commonly refers to the induced abortion of a human pregnancy. The similar procedure after the fetus may be able to survive on its own is medically known as a "late termination of pregnancy".
Abortion is the termination of a fetus (baby) in a pregnant mother's uterus. Women get abortions for many reasons such as they aren't ready to have a child yet. To have an abortion you have to be in the beginning weeks of your pregnancy,
Abortion is a medical procedure that is performed to end a pregnancy. Also known as induced abortion, because there are two types of abortion the other being spontaneous abortion, which is a miscarriage; “that occurs when a fetus
The word, abortion has currently flooded every single corner of the social media and hence, it is no surprise that we are seeing this word everywhere. Abortion is a medical method used to end a pregnancy and terminate the fetus that has formed in a female’s uterus. According to an Internet dictionary called Merriam-Webster, the definition of abortion is the termination of a pregnancy that results in the death of the embryo or fetus as a spontaneous expulsion of a human fetus during the first 12 weeks of gestation.
Siegel continues to say that this “claim” seems to take two different forms. One being “it is morally permissible to kill an individual who is about to be killed by someone else where killing the individual will help others” (Curzer, H. 2004). The other statement being, “researchers who derive HESCs (human embryonic stem cell) from embryos that were slated for destruction do not cause their death. Instead, the decision to discard the embryos causes their death; research just causes the manner of their death” (Green 2002). It is also said, those who are against the use of human embryos say that a human begins to exist
Abortion is the ending of pregnancy by removing a fetus or embryo from the womb before it can survive on its own. surgery has lower risk of side effects. When allowed by local law abortion in the developed world is and has long been one of the safest procedures in medicine. Uncomplicated abortions do not cause any long term mental or physical problems. Every year unsafe abortions cause 47,000 deaths and 5 million hospital admissions.
Lee and George, are against the thought of abortion as the fetus is a third party and didn’t intend to be dependent on its potential mother. The fetus “is simply growing and developing in a way that is natural” (Lee and George, 47). Since the fetus and the mother share a bond, the “mother does generate a special responsibility” and that sacrifice carries a less burden then “the harm that would be done” (Lee and George) caused by an abortion, resulting in the death of the fetus. Lee and George believe abortions are ways “to escape [the] responsibility” (Lee and George, 48) of caring for the potential child, as all of us “have a duty to do something [in] life that contributes to the good of the human community” (Lee and George 46) even if it involves making sacrifices for oneself.
