Appendix 1.1-The Funeral Exercise
The “Funeral Exercise” helped me to tap into my deep, fundamental (core) values. In this exercise, I would have to imagine a scene when I have past away and all my families, friends, colleagues, and co-workers from volunteering activities have come to my funeral. Each one of them from the four groups (family, friend, colleagues, co-workers) will present an eulogy for me. Here are the eulogies I have written after mimicking their eulogy for me based on my experiences with these groups of people.
Eulogy from family
Passionate, humble, respect, responsible, trustworthy, brave: these are the qualities that my daughter not only held in high esteem but also practised every day during her life while she was

What I will remember most about CJ? Her cheerful spirit, kindness, and her love for animals, friends, and family and her sole belief that everyone’s intention is good and deserve a second chance. I will always missed her laugh and boring jokes and lousy puns. CJ’s death was sudden but her life was meaningful and fun. Her memory will always be with us. She would smile if she were here with us, and making lame jokes and puns while I speak and make this moment less sad. I will miss my friend dearly, but I am so grateful for having her in my life.
Eulogy from colleges/ co-worker
CJ was a wonderful employee who knows how to play the right team player. She was always focused on the benefit of the company and the department than on her own benefit. She would always put the work schedule ahead of her personal time and made great contribution to the department while helping the team move forwards the goals. Her work and performance will not be forgotten. CJ was a remarkable woman and the company is better for having her on our team.
Eulogy from community volunteer friend
Like many of us here today, I got to know CJ through work where she volunteered most of her time. She was a helpful and warm colleague and I know I speak for all of her co-workers when I say how very much she will be missed. I’m glad to have this opportunity to share just a few of my memories of CJ with you. CJ always have extra time when our schedule are tight even though she only
According to picturequotes.com, “Words are powerful. They can create or they can destroy. So choose your words wisely.” In Julius Caesar, by William Shakespeare, conspirators slay Julius Caesar, resulting in anarchy in Rome. Some agree with the death, while others oppose the sudden and violent death of Caesar. Unlike Antony, Brutus uses emotion rather than fact to sway the Roman people that Caesars death is justified. Although Brutus puts rules in place so he can not talk disrespectfully of the conspiracy, Antony, Caesar‘s closest friend, uses his slyness and manipulation in his funeral speech to persuade the Romans. Although both characters use analogies, parallelism, loaded words and hyperboles, their speeches convey very different
In the Aftermath of the Peloponnesian war between Athens and Sparta, Pericles, Athens’ general and statesmen, delivered a powerfully comforting eulogy to the polis of Athens, assuring the people that their city state is in good hands, and easing the pain of all the families and relatives of the deceased. He uses several rhetorical devices throughout his speech to gain a positive emotional appeal by his audience and makes assertions in the attempt to enhance and transform the perception of him by the audience.
Laura Wallen. My teacher and class sponsor Ms.Wallen was killed during the first week of my senior year. If I had one more chance to talk to her I would be ecstatic. I would want to talk to her because she was one of the first teachers I met in high school. Having Ms.Wallen as a teacher who was always here supporting me was a great feeling. Every Time I saw Ms.Wallen she was smiling. During our homecoming week we would have to design a hallway and even with little to no supplies and only a few class council member, she would make it feel like we were winners. I would want to talk about college applications and all of the senior year events we were planning together. I would want to tell her that I love her and that her support from the beginning
I am writing this statement regarding Elizabeth Wall. Elizabeth was a co-worker of mine at the Grand Rapids Ellington Academy of Arts and Technology during the 2015-2016 school year. While there Elizabeth was the Middle and High School Special Education Teacher. She was let go during the summer of 2016 when her job was eliminated and combined to became a k-12 Special Education position. I found working with her to be incredibly successful for the students that we shared. This year many of her previous students wish that she was still working with us. Working with an urban population has its difficulties. With Elizabeth’s help we were able to find a homeless student a place to live and find help for another that was being abused in the home
With my character, I have guided it to be filled with respect, responsibility, trust, fairness, and caring attributes. I respect my teachers by not wasting their time with chatting and turning in late work.
I remember everything as if it were yesterday. The shock, the sadness, the pain, and the sickness she had to suffer. I remember sitting beside her, holding her hand as she had IV’s put into her arms. I remember the conversations we had; she’d explain to me how she just wanted to go outside again; she’d be enthusiastic for the day she got out of the hospital; we made plans for when she beat cancer. Two years have gone by so fast, and there hasn’t been a day I haven’t thought about her.
“Kirsty I don't know how to say this in a happy way but mom died. She died 10 minutes after you left. She woke up and said she loved us very much then passed away. There was no one there so the doctor called me and told me the news. He is very sorry for us and told us to stay strong. The funeral will be in a week in Utah” -Cathy
After going into detail about her move to New York and humanitarian involvement with Hurricane Sandy, her last piece of advice was to support one another. You must help somebody out to get help so might as well pay it forward. I feel like I learned a lot about the industry and how to handle it all from Marcie and am glad there is someone out there who is all about lady
For example, Katniss Everdeen is a very good role model. She is caring and shows it by saying “I have been putting food on the table for four years…” (Collins 89) Not only is she caring, but she is also successful. It is shown by Effie's statement “I am pleased to present the victors of the 74 Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen…” (Collins 345) The last quality Katniss displays is her strength, the author describes her a strong competitor because in the book it reads, “Without hesitation I sprint to the
I would like to start by thanking Desdemona’s family who have travelled from Venice to be here today, and to all her loyal friends here in Cyprus for your unwavering support during this difficult time.
I cried thinking of not being in Neil's presence again but am quickly reminded of how much his presence blessed us whenever AJ and I visited. He was such a kind beautiful soul. His art in sharing the history of Maine and political thought was so fascinating and left more to be desired. Thank you, Neil. You have been world-class.
Good morning, family and friends of Carissa. I want to begin with a quote by Benjamin Mays, “The tragedy in life does not lie in not reaching your goal. The tragedy lies in having no goal to reach.” Carissa was a loving daughter, sister, wife, and friend. Although her life ended too soon, that does not mean she did not get the chance to truly live. She was always striving to be the best version of herself and that is a quality that we can all learn from and carry throughout the rest of our own lives.
