Evangeline Bravery

As the Former First Lady of the United States, Eleanor Roosevelt stated, “People grow through experience if they meet life honestly and courageously. This is how character is built.” Author of the nonfiction book Unbroken, Laura Hillenbrand, shows Louis Zamperini is bravery. Louie proved that Roosevelt’s statement in his case was true. Whether in the Olympics, a fight, or serving his country Louie maintained a brave face demonstrating his true character to the world.

Ordinary courage is a book that tells the story of an ordinary man who is inlisted in the continental army in the revolutionary war. Joseph Plumb Martin is the young man fighting in this war, at the time he entered he was just a mere 16 year old kid but by the time his time in the continental army was up he became a man. This is a first person memoir of what it was like for a regular person living in a war zone, and dealing with the everyday fears of food shortage, low morale, and danger of attack. The film Life is Beautiful directed by Roberto Benigni and Niccolò Ammaniti’s film I’m not Scared explore the theme of bravery of their protagonists in their comparatively dissimilar settings. The 1997 Italian film Life is Beautiful follows the life of a charming man who uses his humor to win over the woman of his dreams and bravely save his family from the tragedy in Italy during the Second World War. Also set in the late 1970s in rural southern Italy, the film I’m not Scared encompasses imprisonment and the developing friendship of Michele and Filippo who is kidnapped for ransom. Filippo is chained up and hungry when Michelle discovers him in a pit near an abandoned house and he helps the boy out. Bravery is prominently explored in both texts through dialogue, colour, and setting.

. In the beginning half of the story of Jason and the Golden Fleece, I found Jason to be courageous and empathetic hero. When Jason speaks with King Pelias about his rightful place on the throne, King Pelias demands that Jason bring him the Golden Fleece from the Colchian kingdom. Courageously, Jason excepts. He could have fought King Pelias, but he himself told the king that if he were in his shoes he would send the person on a quest to prove their worthiness to reclaim the throne. Life is Beautiful (1997), an Italian comedic drama set in 1939, tells the tale of Guido, a young Jewish man living during the time of World War II, the film follows Guido and his family; from when they were happy living freely to when they are forced to work unfairly in concentration camps. Directed by Roberto Benigni, also known for Pinocchio (2002), Life is Beautiful portrays many important themes and messages to the audience. Benigni shows the importance of bravery in the film, through cinematic techniques including camera angles, lighting, and sound.

In My Brother Sam is Dead, a certain character showed bravery that didn’t necessarily seem like bravery from first glimpse. “I don’t like taking you, Tim, but I have no choice…” Life admitted. Some people might assume that Life was selfish by saying this. However, when I took a closer look at this statement, I realized that Life did not want to take Tim because making the journey to Verplanks point, was a perilous odyssey. Courage is a difficult thing for people to do in real life. Some people may say courage is people who have strong bodies and hearts. The others would say it is someone who tells the truth instead of avoiding it. In To Kill A Mockingbird courage is presented by standing up to your fears and helping people that need help. Early in the book To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Jem shows courage by touching Boo Radley’s porch. “In the waning moonlight I saw Him swing his feet to the floor. “I'm going after them he said. I sat upright, you can't I won't let you. He was struggling into his shirt, I've got to. You do and i'll wake Atticus. You do and i'll kill you.” Jem lost his pants on the Radley fence by making a raid on the property in the hope of catching a glimpse of Boo from the back window of the Radley House. Atticus would demand to see the pants the next morning, so Jem knew he had to get them back. He also didn't want to lose Atticus's trust in him, or be punished further. First, Henry did not run from the first battle. Even though Henry was so nervous and worried he still fought. Henry and his regiment won the first battle so they were not expecting another one soon. Henry and the soldiers did what they had to do to get the job done of eliminating the opposition.

If you were to ask yourself what is bravery to you, what would you say? Would you say,brave people are the ones that are buff and talk a lot about other people or military people risking their lives for ours. To me bravery is something you need to have a big heart and your not afraid of people seeing who your are.

I am a high school girl, currently in 10th grade. Bravery is the characteristic I can relate to the most. Starting high school, in 9th grade I felt out of place. I wasn't sure where I belonged such as what clubs I should join or what activities really interested me. I had to be brave and socialize with people I didn't even know, to figure out when and where the clubs gathered. Bravery was necessary for me to step out of my comfort zone and join extra curricular activities that I would either enjoy or learn from. My ninth grade year of high school I tried to be very involved knowing it will only benefit me in the long run. Taking a chance, by getting involved has only helped me grow as a person because I've learned what really interests me and

Every little girl at one point or another dreams of owning a horse. I grew up around horses, I rode many at my Aunt’s house, and as a child I rode them at my Grandma and Grandpa’s property. I felt that I was missing out on something because I didn’t have one of my own.

Bravery, Honor. Ask yourself are you brave and honored. I ask because our Veterans are. They fought for our freedoms. They are so important. As a family member of many Veterans. I have heard about the sacrifices they made and the things they had to leave behind, and I am grateful to have people who sacrifice their lives to make sure we get what we need and to make us happy. Today Veterans are not treated as highly as they should be. Without Veterans we wouldn't be able to go to school and get an education. We wouldn't be able to fight for what we as the people believe. I was again state our Veteran our important to today's society. They also were able to given us the biggest thing any would want to keep our freedom. I couldn't imagine a world

People respond to natural disasters with bravery in dangerous situations and compassion for those victims in need. I disagree and agree to some parts of it. It really depends on the situation and who they consider the hero. On the other hand when natural disasters occur a lot people go to help those in need.
