Courage… the ability to do something that one frightens. Imagine living in a home you’re whole life, than boom you get told that you can't live there anymore and you will be moved against your will to god knows wherever. Jewish people experienced this from 1933-1945.. That’s a 12 year experience where they had to show courage to be able to survive. In the book “Night” written Elie Wiesel many examples of courage are shown not only by jewish humans but Hitler's army, the Nazi’s. Courage was needed to surpass all the hardships and adversities throughout the distraught period of time, now know as The Holocaust. Hitler, one of the most notorious men of all europe leader of the political party the “Nazi’s” was the leader of killing approximately
“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear” (Nelson Mandela).Nelson Mandela inspired many people through his fearless acts of courage. However, Nelson Mandela is just one example of a courageous individual. In “Hitler Youth” by Susan Campbell Bartoletti, and Elie Wiesel’s “Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech” both Elie Wiesel and character Sophie Scholl endure situations when courage is needed to survive. Courage is the best way for individuals to respond to conflict.
In the book Night by Elie Wiesel, brutality is expressed in many ways. This is a story about the holocaust, how Elie survived it and how he and his father made the best of a situation.when Elie and his family were taken from their home and put in a truck filled with other Jews that would take them to Auschwitz, they had no idea what they were looking forward to. As soon as they reached their destination realization hit Elie, there was the smell of burning flesh and smoke in the air and the awareness of the rough bed of the truck they had to sit in,the fear that they felt and also what they saw they were going to be living in.
Making decisions in life can be so minor that it can affect almost nothing, whilst other decisions have the potential to change one's entire life. In the book Night by Elie Wiesel, the major decisions Elie made during his imprisonment in a concentration camp drastically alter his life's journey. Not only has his life been modified around the decisions he had made in the camp, but it also changes his views from what he has done or seen in the past. By making significant decisions around his father, his own beliefs, and for himself, Elie has seen many changes in his life, for better or for worse.
The book Night is a story of family, religion, violence, and hope. This book tells the story of Elie Wiesel’s journey through the holocaust. During the novel, Wiesel writes with the purpose of teaching us several lessons. This lesson is conveyed through Wiesel’s actions, other character’s actions, as well as quotations. The lesson Wiesel taught in Night is to persevere and never lose hope up no matter how hopeless the situation may seem.
Hitler is the most infamous political figure in history. He was the leader of the Nazi party and the main opposition of the Allied Forces in World War II. With his corrupt ideology he was able to sway an entire nation and poison the leaders of Japan and Italy. With Hitler and his ever growing army he set a plan into motion to spread the Nazi party throughout the world, beginning in Europe. He committed mass murder of eleven million people, six million being of the Jewish faith.
In Night Elie shows, experiences, and saw many acts of kindness. One act of kindness Elie experienced was when a prisoner told Elie and his father to lie about their ages so that they could stay alive. Elie stated, ““Hey, kid, how old are you?” “Fifteen.” “No, You’re eighteen.” “But I’m not,” I said “I’m fifteen.” “Fool. Listen to what I say.” Then he asked my father, who answered: “I’m fifty.” “No.” The man now sounded angry. “Not fifty. You’re forty. Do you hear? Eighteen and forty.”” This was an act of kindness because the man was nice and kept Elie and his father from dieing and kept them from being separated. Another act of kindness was when the dentist in Buna let Elie keep his gold tooth. Elie stated, ““Seated in the chair, I asked meekly: “What are you going to do, sir?” “I shall remove your gold crown, that’s all,” he said, clearly
The Holocaust, or a jewish sacrificial offering that is burned on an alter, largely refers to the massacre and slaughter of over 6 million european jews from 1933 to 1945. One of the largest genocides took place less than 100 years ago. A recently fresh event on the historical timeline, and yet there would be little known on exactly went on inside the camps without the testimonies of survivors. Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel, produced the book “Night” as a way to cope with his time in the labor camps and to shed light on the reality of the inhumanity that engulfed numerous concentration camps across europe. After ten years of silence, the book was written by Wiesel to express his personal experiences inside the labor camps, as well as his testimony to horrifying and inhumane actions inflicted upon his beloved family and bunk mates. In “Night”, Elie Wiesel explores the evils in humanity by sharing his personal experiences and personal witness of inhumanity, and shares his own moral values of man.
“Humanity? Humanity is not concerned with us. Today anything is allowed. Anything is possible, even these crematories” (Wiesel 30).
For some people, being a hero or having heroic attributes includes zooming in with super speed to save to city from a monster, but in reality there are no aliens or super powers. A hero is someone who puts others needs before theirs, like Elie Wiesel in Night. Sometimes people aren’t considered heroes, but have heroic attributes like Hans in Journey to the Center of the Earth. Heroes like George Washington are heroes who are also leaders. Although many heroes are considered heroes, some are just put in situations where they must be heroic in order to survive.
“I have come to believe that caring for myself is not self indulgent. Caring for myself is an act of survival.”--Andre Lorde.
“To live is to suffer, to survive is to find some meaning in the suffering” (Nietzsche). This quote, said by the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, describes the desire to survive that was inside of Elie Wiesel in his story. The book describes Elie’s late teen years when he was sent to a concentration camp by the German government. In the book, he is separated from his whole family except for his old father, and both are put to work inside of the camp. As Elie suffers through the camp, his faith and his life face many tests and trials. There are many instances throughout the book when people die or when somebody loses their faith. The theme of the book Night, written by Elie Wiesel, is survival, as shown by the death of many Jews during the Holocaust, people willing to do anything to survive, and people’s faith not surviving the traumatic experiences of the concentration camps.
The dignity of a man can be drained out through misery and fear, but it is never lost. Night by Elie Wiesel, experiences the strain of dignity through the gruesomeness of the Holocaust. Elie Wiesel and millions of jews are coercion into cattle cars and brought to an Auschwitz labor camp. Selection rules over the captives, choosing if they can inhumanly work in labor, or die in the abominable flames of the crematoria. Consequently, light shines through the darkness of death and the perishable jews finally see the day of liberation.
Elie Wiesel shows a lot of courage going back to the place that brought him so much pain. I was really surprised Wiesel would go back to all the bad memories. I do not know him but those memories probably made him the person he was. At Auschwitz was where his mother, father, and sisters all died so he must be reminded of the lose of his family. I am quite glad that this video was made because I did learn a lot. I never knew there was a prison inside a prison where they kept all the political Jews and the Nazis also tortured the political Jews there. I thought it was nice they put flowers outside of the building. I also never knew that the Nazis kept a lot of the articles of clothings they would take from the Jews before they killed them or
Alycia Grant Rough Draft: The book "Night by Elie Wiesel was the most interesting book that I have ever read. It conveyed very well what had occurred during the Holocaust. Reading this book made me feel the emotions, and stress involved with him being in this situation. The writing was descriptive, but not too much so that it was boring. The writing in this story painted a vivid picture in my mind. No matter where he was, I had a good idea of how his environment appeared in his mind. He described well what he felt, heard, smelled, tasted, and seen. This made me like the book much more, and it helped me better understand how horrible and traumatic this event really was. Elie Wiesel is a strong person in my opinion for being able to go through what he did, and then write about exactly what happened, in deep detail, afterwards.
Inhumanity. The cruelest of people are responsible for this. In Night, Elie Wiesel uses imagery, tone, and characterization to show the effects of inhumane actions. Night is about a young boy and his father who get separated from the rest of their family during selection of the Holocaust. This story tells how Elie survived his times in the concentration camps, even with all of the inhumane actions of the Germans.
