Would you want to live in a world liberated from the chains of evil? Since the beginning of time, man has been on a life-lasting journey to construct Utopia: a tranquil and perfect society. Yet, our corrupt nature shields us from making this ideal civilization into a reality. Corruption deprives us of using morality, logic, and fair-mindedness when it begins to gnaw at our minds.
Animal Farm, written by George Orwell, is an allegory that reflects upon how we as humans will never be able to reach Utopia due to the evil nature. It also targets how a leader’s own corruption prevents the formation of an idealistic society. Thus, Napoleon’s abuse of power completely annihilates the hopes and dreams of the animals of living a just, happy, and free life. This pattern is also reflected in the rulings of both Mao Zedong and Augusto Pinochet.
