Would you want to live in a world liberated from the chains of evil? Since the beginning of time, man has been on a life-lasting journey to construct Utopia: a tranquil and perfect society. Yet, our corrupt nature shields us from making this ideal civilization into a reality. Corruption deprives us of using morality, logic, and fair-mindedness when it begins to gnaw at our minds.
Animal Farm, written by George Orwell, is an allegory that reflects upon how we as humans will never be able to reach Utopia due to the evil nature. It also targets how a leader’s own corruption prevents the formation of an idealistic society. In the novel, Napoleon’s abuse of power divests the animals from creating the Utopia that they had fervently rebelled for. This perpetual cycle of

Thus, Napoleon’s abuse of power completely annihilates the hopes and dreams of the animals of living a just, happy, and free life. This pattern is also reflected in the rulings of both Mao Zedong and Augusto Pinochet. Although these leaders were happily welcomed into the arms of their peoples, they, later on, commit horrible acts that went against the principles of justice and morality. According to Alan Axelrod "...the onset the
Pinochet regime engaged in gross human rights violations under the Doctrine of National
Security" (Axelrod 1994). Over the course of his reign, he had killed a total of 3,000 people. This included "2,095 verifiable deaths and 1,102 others who were disappeared and are presumed dead"(Catherwood 2006). Moreover, he also “unlawfully tortured 130,000 suspected communists” (Axelrod 1994). The cause of these unfortunate results was of Pinochet’s pure desire to get rid of his enemies, mostly innocent communists, in order to secure his power over
Chile. Unfortunately, these similar circumstances were also occurring during this time in
In October 1998 he became the centre of international attention when he was arrested in London, following a request from Spain for his extradition to stand trial for ‘crimes of genocide and terrorism’, in which some of the victims had been Spanish nationals. The arrest caused tension between UK and Chile, and civil unrest in Chile
This was not the beginning of the Rule of Napoleon; it was supposed to be “All animals are equal;” however, it was changed to “All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others.” Napoleon’s ultimate demise was shown through some small actions in the beginning. Power twisted Napoleon’s conscience and his morals created a monster from which many feared.
Often times in a communist society, a leader’s use of language can lead to abuse of power. In George Orwell’s Animal Farm, the farm leaders, the pigs, use unknown language, invoke scare tactics, and create specific laws, thereby enabling them to control other animals, to suit their greedy desires, and to perform actions outside their realm of power. Because of the pigs’ use of broad language, implementation of scare tactics, and creation and manipulation of laws, they are able to get away with avoiding laws and convincing other animals into believing untrue stories and lies that are beneficial to the pigs.
The stories display the characteristics of a tyrannical governments through its underlying themes. Both stories show the implications of media manipulation as being instrumental to the abuse of power. Just before the announced attack on the Parliament Building in V for Vendetta, Adam Sutler releases to the public, “Our enemy is an insidious one, seeking to divide us and destroy the very foundation of our great nation.”(McTeigue). With his hopes to maintain his status and position, he attempts to turn the population against V using lies, although this does not succeed. This method does succeed in Animal Farm, and the animals believe all the fake media that is posed to them through Napoleon and Squealer. Once the people believe all that is fed to them, governments use this as an opportunity to corrupt the ideals
History always repeats itself. From world wars to economic slumps and even genocides, there is always evil and corruption present where the goal is to obtain power. In order to claim power, evil must oppress the innocent, even if the innocent attempts to break loose, evil continues to push down.
Since the dawn of man, war and pillage was never new. Lands were conquered and lives were lost, a never ending cycle of brutality. But never before have we seen death like this. One man opened the door to a whole new world of evil.
With great power comes with great responsible. But, is great power too much for one to handle? They’re three forms of power, which are military, propaganda, and silencing the opposition. As seen in Animal Farm written by Orwell, it indicates that power will lead to corruption. Leaders like Napoleon and Kim Jong Un, use their power as leader to gain extreme power over their land using their military forces.
The allegorical novella Animal Farm by George Orwell uses the characterization of Napoleon and the pigs to reveal the truth that power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
George Orwell's Animal Farm is an overview of the Russian Revolution, Orwell uses the animals as the allegory for the major Participants of the Revolution. Animal Farm depicts the themes that are a prime factor in the Russian Revolution, it shows Orwell's view on the revolution through the manipulation, lies and corruption that is throughout the whole book which allegorically happens in the Russian Revolution. In the majority of the Animal Farm, there is a lot of manipulation that occurs throughout the farm. Orwell specifically made this a more important theme in the book to help readers understand how deceiving Stalin (Napoleon) and his 'trusty' army (dogs and pigs) actually were in the duration of the revolution.
The novel animal farm, by George Orwell shows the real dangers of a Communist government. In the book Squealer, shows how propaganda can affect the community in positive and negative ways. Squealer is a great example of this in the book and shows many different cases of propaganda and manipulation. Squealer is a sly crafty pig and not only is he intelligent he is a very manipulative speaker.
One who kneels to power can neglect the understanding of good and evil; so far that morals don’t exist. Absolute power rots those who possess it. This principle can be expressed throughout history, such as all war we have experienced. This statement can proven by the actions of Napoleon in the allegory Animal Farm by George Orwell. “Power corrupts those who possess it” is an important and mandatory theme in Animal Farm.
Contrary to the articles mentioned above, in Chile's moves to reconcile its tortured past A court ordered Augusto Pinochet's arrest on Friday, but now the judge is being pursued by foes, Vandenack analyzed how the Chilean masses both left and right affiliates felt about the detention of Augusto Pinochet. “Pinochet led Chile with an iron fist after ousting Marxist President Salvador Allende in a Sept. 11, 1973, coup. Supporters point to the economic order and growth he brought the nation. But human rights officials say his regime unjustly pursued thousands of leftist foes. In all, some 3,200 people died or disappeared owing to political violence during Pinochet's 17 years in power.” (Vandenack 2000). Even though Pinochet did comit inhumane acts,
Augusto Pinochet was a military officer in Chile before his dictatorship. Pinochet rose through the ranks starting off as regiment commander, to general chief of staff of the army then quickly promoted to Commander-in-Chief of the Chilean Army (INTEXT REFERENCE). President Salvador Allende allowed General Pinochet to rise to power as he was very fond of him. It was said that Allende thought of Augusto Pinochet as a good friend however it is unclear if Pinochet thought the same. It is evident that General Pinochet didn’t like President Allende to start with and just used his power to rise through the ranks. This statement can be corroborated as Augusto Pinochet lead the bloody military coup that overthrew president Salvador Allende proving
Animal Farm is a novel by George Orwell. It is an allegory in which animals play the roles of Russian revolutionists, and overthrow the human owners of the farm. Once the farm has been taken over by the animals, they are all equal at first, but class and status soon separates the different animal species. This story describes how a society’s ideologies can be manipulated by those in political power, to cause corruption by those in leadership.
Animal farm by George Orwell introduces real life problems using animals on a farm. The narrator focuses on leaders. This novel talks about a group of animals that overrule a farm owned by a man named Mr .Jones, but the animals face many corrupt rules, freedom rights, enemies, and arguments between one another. The farm becomes overruled by a pig named Napoleon, and the animals are afraid to go against him. Napoleon soon acts like Mr.Jones and the animals freedom is getting taken away from their hands. The novel's main message was to believe those are seeking the truth- doubt those who find it. The novel relates to the theme because between all of the animals, their was many that were not being true to each other and the main character of the story was trying to lure the animals in a plan once he found out he could takeover the farm, just like how it was in the beginning when Mr. Jones owned the farm.
