TKAM Argumentative Essay The To Kill A Mockingbird movie cut down a twelve-hour book into a two-hour ten-minute movie. They did this by removing many scenes that were important to the main plot. To Kill A Mockingbird is about two kids names name Scout and Jem who become aware of the prejudice throughout Maycomb as well as realizing their neighbor, Boo Radley, is not who he seems to be. Atticus, Scout and Jem’s father, teaches his children many important lessons such as, the importance of perspective; being courageous when faced with adversity; why harming innocent human beings is wrong, and how to make the morally correct choices during difficult times. The same goes for the places in Maycomb. First, the Radley house is described as being “ the color of the slate-gray” and having “Rain-rotted shingles [drooped] over the eaves of the veranda”. The description really puts an image of a haunted house into one's head. In the movie, however, the house seems as if any other house but just older. The movie doesn't do as good of a job of meeting the same descriptive qualities that are in the book. Another important event that happens to the setting is Miss Maudie's house being set ablaze. This part is a key point in Scout finding the true identity of Boo Radley. During this scene, Scout starts to feel cold. While she is occupied by the fire, Boo comes from behind and places the blanket on her. This shows the start of their friendship. It shows that Boo is actually a caring person and isn't a heartless phantom that he is described as in the beginning. Another important setting that was not introduced was the school. In the movie, it just shows Scout and Jem leaving the school. This scene is also important to the setting because this is the place Jem and Scout were at before being attacked by Bob Ewell. Also, the scene when they are in school learning isn't in the movie. This scene introduces many characters and shows us what Scout goes through during her first day of school.
