Montag Conflicts Some people start off being very uneducated then gain knowledge as they go. In Fahrenheit 451, Guy Montag is very ignorant and has no clue how he is really living his life. He goes day by day, living the same life until some interesting disputes come alone. Montag encounters some people that say and do things that make him think about his life. In the novel Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury uses conflict to show Montag’s change of ignorance to knowledge. In the beginning, Montag meets a girl that is named Clarisse, who has much knowledge, but made many conflicts for the ignorant Montag. One day Clarisse and Montag are walking down the street to Clarisse’s house, and she says to Montag “Bet I know something else you don’t…’’ (Bradbury 7). Montag has to set and think about what Clarisse meant by this. It made him think more about things. When they got to Clarisse’s house, she asks, ‘’’Are you happy?’ she said. ‘Am I what?’ he cried’’’ (Bradbury 7). No one has ever asked Montag such a question, so Montag is startled by it. When Montag is on a job, he has to go to this house and discovered that it is a woman with a whole library inside her house. They have to burn the whole house to get all the books, but the woman would not get out the house. One of the firemen is counting down for the woman to get out, but before the fireman got to seven, she says, “You can stop counting” (Bradbury 36).The woman has a single kitchen match and lit up the house with her in it.
