Mythology is a collection of myths and stories belonging to a particular belief system or cultural tradition. Even though there are a variety of different myths taught around the world, Greek mythologies are more famously known for their fruitful stories and complex relationships. Greek mythologies mostly concern their gods and heroes such as; Hercules, Achilles, Theseus, and Perseus. Of the many Greek heroes, Jason is the most heroic due to the fact that although he is abandoned at a very young age, he is still able to survive, also he proves to Hera the goddess who hated heroes that he is worthy to be favoured by her, and he completes the impossible quest of the Golden Fleece.
Jason is born in a very superior family, having a father who

During the years he spends with Chiron, the training has caused him to become skillful and wise. And, as he has come of age, he set out like a proper hero to claim his rightful throne. On the way to meet his uncle, Jason meets Hera the goddess of marriage who is disguised as an old lady. Due to the fact that when Pelias becomes the new king of Iolcus, he worships all the other gods excluding Hera, the goddess grew mad at Pelias and decides to help Jason to reclaim his throne for his punishment. Before bestowing all of her divine aid to Jason, Hera gives Jason a test to make sure if Jason has a heart of a true hero. Hera in the form of an old lady, asks Jason if he can carry her over a rushing stream, and without hesitation, Jason agrees. Nevertheless, Hera secretly increases her weigh as Jason crosses the stream, Jason successfully carries her to the other side without saying a word. Seeing Jason has passed her test, Hera then decides to help him through his journey of taking the throne back from Pelias. This illustrates that Jason has a heart of a true hero, and he has the willingness to help anyone even strangers who struggle. Even though Hera hates heroes since her husband Zeus has affairs with other women to create more heroes, the goodwill of Jason impresses Hera, and shows to her that he is worthy to become a true

The Coen Brothers used many examples of Greek Mythology from the epic The Odyssey to inspire their movie O! Brother Where Art thou? Homer once said. “ Look now how mortals are blaming the gods, for they say that evils come from us, but in fact they themselves have woes beyond their share because of their own follies.” This quote is a great quote to represent the odyssey because in the odyssey mortals blame the gods for all the bad things that happen to them and it also goes along with the movie O! Brother Where Art Thou? Because in that movie it’s not god or anyone else that causes the bad things that happen to you it’s the choices you make. The Coen brothers used homers epic the odyssey to inspire their film by showing the characteristics of
More clearly than the Bible, Greek/Roman mythology helps outline the life cycle that almost always applies to the traditional archetypal hero. With basic knowledge of the Bible we can determine right from wrong and its influence in real life when reading mythology. As the reader we experience this when seeing the actions the hero takes, as explained by Frye when he states, "... the central myth of the hero whose mysterious birth, triumph and marriage, death and betrayal and eventual rebirth..." (Frye, 67), explaining the archetypical story outline of the tragic hero. As an example of the archetype, the story of Hercules starts with the mysterious birth of a being that is half god and half man, with his father famously being Zeus. Following Hercules' diverse birth we also know he triumphed over the leader of the underworld named Hades, while also
Heroism is an important value in Greek mythology and is seen in Greek heroes, including Hercules, Achilles, Odysseus and many more. Heroism is defined as the attributes of a hero, consisting of bravery, compassion, cunning and strength. In Greek mythology, there are countless battles in which these qualities are prevalent. Hercules uses his strength to strangle the Nemean Lion, Jason shows his bravery while retrieving the Golden Fleece from the distant land of Colchis, and Theseus uses cunning when making his way through the labyrinth and killing the Minotaur. In the story of Perseus, King Polydectes sends Perseus on a dangerous mission to bring him the head of Medusa. Athena guides Perseus to the
When people wonder about Ancient Greece the first thing that comes to their minds is Greek mythology; gods and goddesses that have helped shape many historical events. “In ancient Greece, stories about gods and goddesses and heroes and monsters were an important part of everyday life.” (“Greek Mythology.”) The civilization showed that numerous characters and stories helped shape Greeks. The beliefs the Greeks had with mythologies was they understood the meaning behind all the characters that are known today. However, to the Greeks, they were not just characters, these were their gods and goddesses who gave them meaning and understanding of the world around them. Worshiping the gods and goddesses helped them with their religious rituals and the temperament of the weather. A famous wine-jar that was made during this time period was “Achilles killing the Amazon Queen Penthesilea, 540-530 BCE, black-figured amphora”. (Khan Academy) The civilization that they lived in grew around their worship and achievements.
Greek mythology has been passed on and retold over generations. Literature and movies have been created to entertain as well as provide specific themes based off of myths. There are many heroes that mythology talks about and each one has lived an epic life, but there is one famous hero that has been immortalized throughout history. Hercules is the son of Zeus and a mortal named Alcmene. Zeus impregnated her while her husband was away and this is where his story began. Zeus' wife, Hera, found out about the affair and was outrageous about his careless actions. She tried to prevent Hercules' birth; however, when that didn't work she sent snakes to kill the baby. Hercules was too mighty for the snakes and strangled them before they could even hurt him. As stated in this source, "Hera remained angry. How could she get even? Hera knew that she would lose in a fight, and that she wasn't powerful enough to prevent Zeus from having his way. Hera decided to pay Zeus back for his infidelity by making the rest of Hercules' life as miserable as she could" (Crane WEB). Hercules grew up to be a great young warrior and was all around. With this god-like strength, also came an uncontrollable temper that made him react at times without thinking, but later made him realize the wrongdoings of his violence. He later then married a woman named Megara and had two beautiful children. But one day, Hera instilled a fit of rage into Hercules and made him slaughter his family with his very own hands. He was shocked by his actions and asked Apollo for assistance since he was drowning in guilt. Apollo later then gave him specific tasks to help Hercules redeem himself for the bloodshed he caused. The hero was sent to Eurystheus, and under his strict hand, he was to accomplish twelve labors over the next twelve years.
Greek mythology is the body of myths and legends belonging to the ancient Greeks, concerning their gods and heroes, the nature of the world, and the origins and significance of their own cult and ritual practices. They were a part of religion in ancient Greece. Modern scholars refer to, and study, the myths, in an attempt to throw light on the religious and political institutions of Ancient Greece, its civilization, and to gain understanding of the nature of myth-making itself.
Mythology is a way that the ancient societies explained why things are the way they are and how they came to being. Two ancient societies are infamous for their mythology. These societies are Greece and Rome. Great authors were made be the mythological works they wrote. Homer was a famous author who is best known for his epics. It is from these epics that most of the gods and actual myths well known. I am writing of two of these gods in particular, Saturn and Dionsysus.

Later on, Zeus appears to Hercules and gives him to the task to become a true hero, so he can then rejoin the Olympians on Mt. Olympus leaving behind his regular life behind. This is when Hercules accepts the call and advances to the next stage, entering the unknown. Emerging himself into a world of mythical creatures. Zeus then provides Hercules with helpers, Pegasus and Phil to assist him with his quest. Without their help it is likely that Hercules would not be able to complete the task (give examples how they did this). Zeus ends up becoming Hercules’ supernatural aid. Greek mythology stories show Heroes that are great leaders, strive for glory, and are brave beyond compare. The heroes in the stories teach lessons about Greek culture and make people strive to be like them. The story of Hercules has been re-told for many years because it follows the Hero's Journey and shows Greek cultural values. Hercules was one of the greatest stories that followed the Hero's Journey storyline. The story shows strong character development and shows readers what it means to be a hero. The Hero's Journey storyline consists of three phases; the departure, the initiation, and the return. These phases appear in most Greek myths and help make the structure of the the Hero's Journey so strong. The departure, initiation, and return
Throughout all of the Greek mythology and texts that I have read, each story contains one or more heroes. A hero is a person who is selfless and somehow gets all of the attention in a story because he or she causes some sort of change. There is always someone who gains leadership qualities throughout the story and ends of saving the rest of the people. One particular person who stood out to me was Odysseus. Odysseus was an ordinary person who eventually accomplished a huge task. He ruled Ithaca with his wife, Penelope, and throughout the story, he tried to get back to Ithaca after the Trojan War and return to his position as king. Throughout the Odyssey, there are multiple instances in which Odysseus can be seen
Jason is classified as a Greek hero through his noble birth, extreme feats, and his selflessness.
According to various accounts of the creation of the world. Hesoids version describes that in the beginning, there was only Erebus, or darkness, Nyx, or night, and Chaos, who has been interpreted as the opening form which the other ancient characters arose. Then appeared Gaea, or mother earth, personified as the solid foundation of the world. Next, was Tartarus who is usually confused with the residence Hades, but was depicted as the father of some of Gaea’s children. Also appearing after Chaos was Eros, the source of sexual love/attraction that brought beings together to produce more children.
