The novel “Things Fall apart“ is a post-colonial novel written by Nigerian novelist Chinua Achebe in 1958, before Nigerian sovereignty. The novel portrays the life of Okonkwo, an Ibo head and local wrestle champion in Nigerian village of Umuofia. The novel is divided into three parts, the first parts talks about his family and personal history, the customs and society of the Ibo, and the second and third sections introduce the influence of British colonialism and Christian missionaries on the Ibo community during the late 1800s. Achebe provides the examples of post colonialism through the symbolic representations of the colonizers, the introduction of their new religion, the creation of their own government, and explains how the colonizers have caused them to diverge from their original traditions and cultures.

The interpreter spoke to the white man and he immediately gave his answer. "All the gods you have named are not gods at all. They are gods of deceit who tell you to kill your fellows and destroy innocent children. “There is only one true God and He has the earth, the sky, you and me and all of us." (Pp.137-138).The White missionary rejected Ibo gods and claimed them to be false and that Christianity's God is the only true god.The European colonizers found purpose in entering Umoufia and converting the people to Christianity as the Ibo religion contrasted theirs 'Things fall apart' as a result of the colonization.

They also convert turn against their fellow clansmen, causing conflict between the missionary and the clan. The Europeans established higher authoritative power and implemented a new government system and court, ruling over the Ibo people.
