What is the American Dream? The American Dream is everyone in the U.S to have equal opportunities and be treated the same and not be discriminated. The roadblocks to the American Dream was to succeed and not give up regardless of the situation and shouldn’t judge a person by their appearance or actions. To succeed in life was to get a good education in schools, therefore you can get a well-paid job. The Article, "Does the American Dream even exist in your ZIP Code," by Jonathan Cohn, he talks about the positive and negative sides of income mobility and argues about the location. Income mobility and location determine the living standers and success of education because where they lived was part of their success in life. In the other article "Unequal opportunities: Race and Education," by Linda Darling-Hammond, she states about the inequalities they had toward the students and their success. Darling-Hammond correlated two different races: White and African Americans, to know the opportunities they had while growing up, and to see how educated, they were in school because the school students attended was all based on their education. The only solution for students in the American dream to succeed on their life's by having equal opportunities. In both articles, education was important because that was their way up to success and be able to get a well-paid job. Everyone getting treated the same and having the same opportunities will make them successful. In Cohn's and Darling-Hammond, inequality was a major issue in the united states, because without a good education it was difficult for one to achieve in their life's.
The Inequality made it hard for people in American to succeed. Location in the article was important because it shows the best education a student will receive depending on the area they lived and the schools that were around.
