The purpose of this paper is to discuss the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I will discuss how his leadership has impacted both America as a whole and the United States Army, as well as how Dr. King has influenced my own life as a Soldier, Military Intelligence professional, and leader.

Martin Luther King Jr dedicated his life fighting to end discrimination against African-American men, women, and children. Martin did not believe in violence at all and would use kindness and love as opposed to violence and hate, this would help set the tone of his iconic movement to end racism. Martin was able to prove that a world without violence can be successful. He would be able to establish equal voting rights between the black and white people, and establish that all nations must treat all people equal no matter their skin color.

This literature review on a more broad and complete view of Dr. Kings legacy and ideals. Dr. King was for racial integration but later on in his life he developed more radical economic views on the distribution of wealth in the United States. Martin Luther King Junior was an astonishing leader and motivational speaker. His legacy will live on as he has made a significant impact for the American Civil Rights Movement. King’s confessions demonstrate his sincere heartfelt emotions in “Letter from Birmingham Jail.” It illustrates how disappointed he was with the white moderates and white church. As the injustice that emanates Negro’s from their freedom is not limited by “White Citizen’s Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner”, but by the white moderates. Their devotion to “order” clouded their judgement because it failed to solve the social injustice occurring in their society. The white moderates allowed the continuation of segregation simply by advising to be patience with this situation.

During his lifetime, Martin Luther king dared to not only dream about a better future but also fight for it. He was not afraid from having confrontations in order to promise a change. We can see his decisiveness when his arguments for stopping discrimination against black were not enough to change the situation. He decided to make a direct action in order to make society confront the issue.

When you hear the name Martin Luther King Jr., what is the first thing that comes to you mind? Is it your recognition to him for fighting for unity of all people or his speeches; filled with wisdom and were extremely persuasive. When I think about ways to contribute to Martin Luther King Jr's. legacy several things come to mind. Volunteering in my community to better the lives of those around me. I can assist by helping out in soup kitchens, tutoring children or even cleaning up the environment to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.

Fear and prejudice are two significant factors that people let subdue their emotions and beliefs. Throughout history and all the way to current day, the people and groups who never surrendered to fear and prejudice were the ones who prevailed. With that, one should never surrender to fear or prejudice, regardless of the cost.
