Explain What It Means To Be An American

What does it mean to be an American? If this question were asked to ten separate people, their answer would all be different. The reason for this is because in America, people are free to be whoever they want to be. Anyone, no matter where they come or start from, if they work hard enough, can become anything they strive to be. I believe that because of this I think in simple terms, to be an American means to be inspired. It is easy to see how Americans feel, and have felt in the past, about their country and the American dream throughout years of classical writings and poems. “I hear America singing, the varied carols I hear.” (I Hear America Singing). I feel like this line from Walt Whitman shows that all Americans are singing their song.

What does it mean to be an American? In my eyes to be an American means to have privileges, rights, and freedom. America isn't perfect, but it is one of the only countries that have rights given to people of different diversities and gender. America does not have tremendous poverty. Instead we have choices given to us by the people who fought and died for the American people. Without George Washington and the other patriots who planted the first seed in the ground and help plant the American nation we live in now who knows what America would be like now.

What does it mean to be an American?. Many people feel that the American Dream is something hard to conquer. In reality the American Dream is just living like any average American in the United States , living with the right to have life, liberty , and the pursuit of happiness. It means that Americans have the right to vote if they want , have the right to speak their minds , or even publish what they want . It is being a republic civilization with a national government system that limits and protects American citizen laws from being violated.

By birth, all humans are given the basic right to an identity. It tells people who we are, and sometimes, tell the owner who they are. However, some countries even take this necessity away. In the United States of America, despite all of its flaws, gives her citizens these basic rights. Some of these rights are the freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom to petition the government, right to bear arms, and civil trial by jury. Many countries, unfortunately, do not even give their residents these rights.

Americans strongly affirm the principles of religious freedom, religious tolerance, and separation of church and state. Nearly 9-in-10 (88 percent) Americans agree that America was founded on the idea of religious freedom for everyone, including religious groups that are unpopular. Ninety-five percent of Americans agree that all religious books should be treated with respect even if we don’t share the religious beliefs of those who use them. Nearly two-thirds (66 percent) of Americans agree that we must maintain a strict separation of church and state. Americans’ views of Muslims and Islam are mixed, however. As with other previously marginalized religious groups in U.S. history, Americans are grappling with the questions Islam poses to

America, the place where hopes and dreams come true, where people come to look for better opportunity is welcome to people from every nation out there. America doesn’t just have one nationality, it is full of immigrants, who come for a better life. The phrases ‘I’m an American’ is a part of our everyday vocabulary, but what does it mean? To be an American means to be yourself and have pride in what you do. Every American has a special skill to contribute to make America what it is today. That’s what makes America unique compared to other countries in the world.

What it means to be an American, to me it means to fight for this great country that our God created, the same god who made everyone of us. I also feel it's my duty if our country goes into a major war, then I feel I should go and fight for what's right. Therefore I also feel that everyone was made equal and we are the same we are people and Americans so why can't we all matter. To me no one is more popular or bigger than anyone we are all Americans and people, the people who think they are bigger and more popular than anyone else they like to think they are, but they really aren't. Like Hillary clinton she likes to think she is all good and she is all innocent of what the things we Americans said she did,

What It Means To Be An American My true definition of what it means to be an American is, celebrating the holidays with your family. Our country of the United States is and will always be Interwoven from the Fourth Of July to celebrate the Independence that we are given from the soldiers that fought in a war for us, our freedom of Independence that we are not disparate from each other, and spending time with you family or friends celebrating this special day by firing off fireworks or going to your local parade. Also my favourite of the holidays being Christmas with the long break that us kids in school get, or spending time with family and eating celebratory dinners with the people you love the most. All though other people have many different ideas of what it means to be an American, this is what I believe is the definition of being an American.

The first thing that comes to mind about being American is to have freedom. Being an American means to have the right to choose what school I want to go to, to travel around the country without any trouble, and be able to achieve my career and educational goals, without any any pressure from the government or military groups. To be American means that you will not be judged by your religion or ethnicity, and if you are, you have the right to defend yourself. It means being especial because you can be from other ethnicity and still be American that’s what it means to be an American.

What does being an American mean to me? Being American to me, means that you have the right to freedom of speech because some brave American soldiers risked or are now still risking their lives, maybe still in the future we will have more people stepping their game up, then they will be one of the brave Soldiers fighting for our country. Being American means to me? Being able to talk about whatever we wanna talk about, knowing that whatever we say, we know that it is a safe place, and that we won’t get shot and prosecuted if reasonable. Being American is probably one of the best things that can happen to you as a person, there are some people out there trying to make this world a living hell for us.

In the beginning, freedom was not a given. Many people could not share their opinions, have their own beliefs, or follow their dreams. Freedom had to be earned. The people who fought for our freedom knew that they weren’t fighting for nothing. Being an American means that you are entitled to your opinion. Being an American means you can participate in whatever religion you believe in. Being an American means you can follow your dreams. Today, you can be anything you want to be.

"What does it mean to be an American" means more to me than just a catchy phrase on a bumper sticker.From my point of view the right to Freedom and Liberty is the defining quality of American.This gives individual Americans to voice their diverse opinions in our nation.

Being an American is not a phrase that should be thrown around lightly. Ask the question of “what does it mean to be an American?” seventy-five years ago during a World War and someone will get a totally different answer than today, but the meaning behind the answers stays the same. Americans have the freedom to choose, or not to choose, just about every aspect of their life from religion, to government leadership, to education. This freedom of choice is something that is usually not recognized and often taken for granted.

     Our rights as Americans started to take shape when the Constitution of the United States was drawn up by the delegates at the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia. Three years later, a very important part of American history called the Bill of Rights was added. The Bill of Rights is looked upon and interpreted every day. It gives the citizens of the United States many of the rights and freedoms that we value today, and some of those are in jeopardy. One right that is at stake is our right to bear arms, which is addressed in the Second Amendment. The Second Amendment is a highly debatable topic, and many legal scholars and the Supreme Court have yet to resolve the issues and

“What it Means to be an American” Freedom. Freedom is a word that most people use to describe America, and for a time it was accurate. Consequently, 19 other countries outrank the U.S., Hong Kong being in first. There are many other words to describe America dedicated, ignorant, sheltered, lucky, powerful, revolutionary, and so on. Although there are countless words to describe the great United States three really pop out, those being unjust, patriotic, and ambitious.
