In many people's eyes, there are two types of graffiti. Tagging and masterpieces. Tagging can be anything from people names, to their gang names , or anything meaningless, and random. Masterpieces are well thought out and have many meaning behind it. Tagging or a masterpieces graffiti is vandalism. Graffiti is vandalism because it can be meaningless, it cost lots of money to fix if it illegal, and some of it can be inappropriate. The first reason graffiti is vandalism is because most of it is pointless. In the video “Graffiti: Art or Vandalism” it states, “ some of the things put on the walls are meaningless some say it shit on the wall” (Graffiti: Art or Vandalism, 2013). When people say it is meaningless they are talking about the taggings. It is just a name or sign that is meaningless. The second reason graffiti is vandalism is because it cost a lot of money to fix up if it is illegal. In many places where people put their graffiti, it is illegal which means it …show more content…
As stated in the video “ Graffiti: Art or Vandalism” it says “Art is is a desire for a man to express himself” (Graffiti: Art or Vandalism, 2013) when graffiti looks like the picture from document 4 or document 5 it is someone expressing him/ herself and it is art to them. Plus if it is illegal and it looks like the picture from document five, it definitely is art that deserves to stay. Yes , some pictures could be beautiful and considered art and yes graffiti is a way of expressing yourself , but more or less many graffiti art is not appropriate. As stated in the video “Graffiti: Art or Vandalism” it says “35% of the graffiti is not appropriate” ( Graffiti: Art or Vandalism, 2013). Graffiti can be seen by anyone at any age and it is not ok for anyone to see something inappropriate in the public eye. If it is not appropriate then it does not make the area seem as beautiful as it really
Graffiti has been around for more than half a decade and practiced worldwide. However there is debate between whether it is a form of art or vandalism. Graffiti artists’ debate that many do not understand the reason most graffiti artist take the risk of incarceration, fines, injuries, and in some cases death to paint a wall. A graffiti artist can have the simple desire to become recognized, or to create a piece that speaks to their audience as a form of self expression. Because graffiti is associated with gangs and acts of destruction to some many cannot see the history and importance graffiti can have on a worldwide scale. Due to the fact that graffiti is usually produced illegally, meaning it is
If you were to go open a dictionary and look up the definition of art, you would see that it has art as “The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination…” (“Art” 2017) and “Works produced by human creative skill and imagination.” (“Art” 2017). From these definitions, graffiti is art, yet in most cases, it’s considered vandalism because it is done without permission of the property. When graffiti is done in a designated place or with the permission of the property owner, then it can truly be considered art. But even if these circumstances are not met, if the graffiti goes beyond a simple tag, it is art.
By definition, graffiti is illegal. It is also considered vandalism because public or private property is intentionally destroyed, but in Alex Boyd’s blog “In Defense of Graffiti”, he clearly conveys his argument about how graffiti shows qualities of value and shouldn’t be criticized on impulse. Even though many people have seen graffiti as something to be condoned, punishable, and terrorizing, it is actually just another form of expression, communication, art, and point of view.
In the summer of 2013, a graffiti artist by the name of 'Lady Pink' had police barge into her house in Queens and arrest her husband for vandalism. They took her art supplies, photo archives, and many of her prized possessions. She had to sit there, helpless, watching police take away her things. In today's world right now, expressing yourself creatively is one of the most important things you can do to help figure out who you are. A part of creative expression is art. Art makes people happy. Graffiti falls into the art category. For some people, graffiti is what they do to express themselves. Graffiti is art and shouldn't be illegal. Expressing yourself creatively shouldn't be a crime.
Graffiti can be found everywhere and anywhere. It is a way for people to express themselves and be creative in a public manner. It shows how passionate and talented they can be when it comes to drawing or tagging and have it displayed as a piece of art for everyone to see. Graffiti goes way back to the ancient times and is now very well known in the modern days which makes more and more people interested and fascinated by them. It can be used in different types of ways. Many artists can either spray paint, carve, paste, or stencil them on a surface. From how we see them today they are usually images of random cartoons, big bubbly letters, vintage black and whites or inspirational quotes. Virtually anything colorful or not and big that can be easily spotted. Graffiti is more superior to be known as art than vandalism because it is a self expressing act. People need to be open minded about the images they see and look at the message behind it or else they will immediately criticize and say it is vandalizing property.
Graffiti is being viewed less as vandalism and more as art. Lately there has been a large push to give painters places to make graffiti without it being illegal and the painters getting in trouble. Many large cities are putting up walls whose sole purpose are to be used for graffiti so the artist have a safe place to express their ideas and not have to worry about being arrested. In many places, especially Detroit, old rundown buildings that are no longer being used are having graffiti sprayed all over them. That shouldn’t be illegal or viewed as vandalism because the building is vacant and will never be used again. If the city allowed people to legally use the building for graffiti the amount of illegal graffiti around the city would go down
Many people think of Graffiti as vandalism or ugly paint but some are starting to change their opinion of graffiti and look at it as art. Graffiti is appearing in museums all over the uk because of this people are changing their view of graffiti. Graffiti may damage property but if you look around all you look at what people create out your things.
Have you ever walked down the street and seen graffiti? What did you think? Graffiti has been a hot topic lately. The city of Seattle is currently debating if graffiti is vandalism, or art. Graffiti is not art it is vandalism. It is often done on private property, it's against the law, and it lowers the property values and sends the message that people of the community are not concerned about the appearance of their property.
Is graffiti art? Yes, it is. However many people have different views on graffiti and what it means. For the people doing it, it may be a way to express themselves, but for the people looking at it, it could either be considered art or it could be considered a nuisance. Regardless of what people say, graffiti should still be considered art. The words and inappropriate “graffiti” people are against, should not be considered true graffiti, it’s the artwork that takes time, thought, and an extremely talented person to create, that’s what should be considered graffiti. Graffiti should be considered art, because it is creative, it takes time, and it’s beautiful.
Now most people would say that graffiti could be a sign of vandalism or even mischief. I think those people think this because they do not know the meaning of what they are looking at. At the same time, they may not like it because they do not like that form of art and my feel as if it is disrespectful to the eye of the community. Most people may not like it because of certain races that participate in the art of graffiti.
Graffiti is an art, but it is also extremely illegal. Most people see graffiti as vandalism because all of the ruined property and trespassing. For example, ruining people’s business and using unnecessary money trying to fix it. Graffiti is like travel, art.(1 http://www.nyc.gov/html/nograffiti/html/legislation.html ) Put it on a train and you basically show it across the country. Graffiti is an illegal art otherwise known as vandalism.
This is a topic that has been circulating in the U.S. for quite some time now. Graffiti: art or vandalism? For a lot of the people viewing this subject, it is a tough one to sort. Of course it is wrong to graffiti or do anything to someone else's property, but if permission was allowed this could definitely be a form of art. Let me explain to you why society and the government should stop cracking down on these "criminals"
Would you like to live in an area where every building in your neighborhood is covered with massive pieces of graffiti?Graffiti is known across the world, graffiti is usually done with spray paint.Graffiti can give peoples job to removing graffiti.Graffiti can happen in any community small or big and can give a city a bad reputation for graffiti. Graffiti has put a major impact on the way people look at their everyday life. It was not used so much here in the United States but was used overseas. Overseas, graffiti, or street art, was used or played as a sport, just like baseball is Americas sport. There are different laws that are put over there than what there are here. They can get away with some of the things that they paint or make over there. If we tried some of that type of work over here, we would get in trouble and possibly serve time for vandalizing someone else’s property. There are many biased outlooks on graffiti, but it should be considered art in all places because of all the time, effort, and design the artist put into their work.
Graffiti is writing or drawings that have been scribbled, scratched, or sprayed illicitly on a wall or other surface, often in a public place.Graffiti ranges from simple written words to larger wall paintings, and it has existed since ancient times, with examples going back to Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, and the Roman Empire. Graffiti is a worldwide situation that has a never ending debate to it, is it art or vandalism? To be honest I think graffiti is a form of art because it is a way to express peoples feelings, it can give out good messages for everyone to see, and in my opinion these kids are getting no credit for the talent they have because people have this vision in their head that graffiti is wrong. Although graffiti may be
