Pretend play is defined as the acting out of stories or situations which involve multiple perspectives and the playful manipulation of ideas and emotions (reference). Executive function is a term used to describe a set of mental processes that are central to helping us organize and order our actions and behaviours (Pocket, 2009). It refers to the cognitive abilities that control and regulate other behaviours and therefore enable goal-directed behaviour. These include the ability to initiate and top actions, assess and change behaviour when need, anticipate outcomes and plan future behaviour. We use executive function when we perform such activities as planning, organizing, strategizing, delaying impulses and paying attention to and remembering details (reference). Its time to get our kids active nationwide. Lets play is a campaign to get our kids to play and be more active. This campaign is important because kids need to be motivated to go out and play, it keeps them moving and healthy. Playing can lead to all kind of outcomes, from fun to learning. For many years this theory of play was not fully accepted in the education world, but now with the help of different campaign’s; play has become a more useful tool in child development. Who ever knew that playing with your child would be beneficial in the overall development of the child, but now play is not just playing anymore; it is the fundamental of learning how to deal with life and the different situations that may occur. As parent’s we are the first to teach our children so why not teach them how learn and play at the same time. They will have fun while exercising. This helps in the school environment as well as home because if you keep kids cooped up and not moving they will get bored and not want to learn. But if they are playing and moving while learning it helps it be more fun and they enjoy it much more. Play is important for all age groups. All age kids even infants should be active. Encouraging play is encouraging the kids to be healthy and to have fun. If you introduce it early the will understand it more and do it younger and wont be as difficult as they get older.
It is important to remember that children are aware of drama and role play from a very young age. Through watching and copying their parents and other people from the society surrounding them they use role play and games such as mums and dads or doctors and nurses etc. to make sense of the world and society they are growing up in. This type of role play is important to children’s development because through their pretence and games they apply rational thinking and take on a role of an adult that they have observed or have an understanding of and for their game to continue to make sense they must apply a level of understanding and logic.
Imagination is one of your child's greatest attributes - they don't have the preconceived notion that some things just aren't possible. Their imaginations take them many places and could, some day, lead to innovations that will change the way the world is, perhaps even finding a cure for cancer or the common cold. Parents do their children justice by allowing and encouraging imaginative and creative play.
To provide my answer I will consider the nature and features of sibling and peer interactions and discuss the developmental significance of these relationships. I will draw upon research to support my rationale and explore the limitations of these accounts. I intend to conclude that children’s play is more than ‘A physical or mental leisure activity that is undertaken purely for enjoyment or amusement and has no other objective’ (Play therapy,U.K, 2011).
If I am a psychologist studying the validity of the quote “play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning” to see if play is important for children’s development, I would implement the approach of experimental research. Experimentation involves manipulating one variable in a situation to measure the effect on the dependent variable. In an experiment, the group not exposed to any change is the control group. The experimental group is exposed to the change of the independent variable. I would choose to examine this question using experimental research because it clearly identifies a cause and effect relationship.

In every classroom, there are students who are playing in the centers. There are also students who do not have any interest in play or do not know what to do in play. When it comes to playing, we assume that students should know how to play. Playing is an essential part of childhood. Every student should allow plenty of time to play. Sometimes the indecisiveness in students can hinder them from joining or choose an identity. Not to say that adult do not have difficulties choosing about our own activities. For example, as adults we can have hard times to decide what or where to eat or what to do for entertainment. We automatically assume students should be able to pick up a toy and play with it. There are some students that can move to a center in a classroom and starts to play with any toys or items present. Just like there are some students that can play with any toys, we have some students are playing with those items or toys but have no enthusiast or connections. They have no interest in the activity nor are they invested in it. Those students are said to have a playing problem. The play problem is dabble.
Play in children influences their development. It helps in their physical, emotional, and mental development, and thus children should be encouraged to engage in different games. Through play, children learn various things, which promote creativity in most of them. There is no harmful play, and therefore every child should be given an opportunity to engage in the play that he or she wants. For example, play-fighting is a play that people may consider harmful, yet it is more of a contest or type of game than a real fighting as some may people interpret it. Henig effectively explains that play-fighting is not a real fight (Henig 4). He says that play-fighting is an unrefereed contest where the participants try to dominate one other without causing injury. When I was a child, I used to engage in different types of plays which helped my brain and body to develop effectively to the point that I could defend myself.
