The Eye-Opening Trip to The Caribbean It was a Sunday morning in the middle of May when our family was on our way to the Caribbean. With that being said, we had a long 14-hour flight ahead of us, but the sky was blue and we were all filled up with excitement as to what would come next. I had never been in the Caribbean before and I did not know what to except. As we sat impatiently waiting to board our plane, I started writing my diary for the trip. Because we were going to be away for a good month or even more, I had to write a diary of my experiences and what I learned so that I could turn it in when I got back to school. As I began writing, I started to brainstorm of what I thought it was going to be like being in a very different culture with people you had never seen before. As a blond, young girl, I did not know much about different cultures as I am from a country with very little diversity. The only thing I knew was that the Caribbean was far, …show more content…
My dad, Tiril, and went diving right outside the Island called Saint-Barts, which is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. I just remember seeing all the extraordinary corals, the colorful fishes, the big turtles, and the sparkly water. I had never seen anything like it before and I was amazed. Later on, we swam into the Island and met the rest of the family. We sat down in the shadows of a restaurant and enjoyed a delicious smoothie made by some of the local residents of the Island. After we had something to eat we strolled down to the beach and that was when it happened, the rare moment when people came up to us asking if they could touch our hair and skin. Many of them had never seen white, blond people with blue eyes before. It was a weird experience, but not a bad experience. They were all so friendly and nice to us and repeatedly said how exotic we looked. Vice versa, I told them the same and we all
It was a hot, searing day as the sun beat down on my skin. The lush green palm trees provided me shade as I sat and observed my surroundings. Children, barefoot and dirty, wearing tattered and stained clothes were running around laughing and playing. Their joyous giggles put a smile on my face and warmed my heart as I watched them.
The Commonwealth of the Bahamas is a country known for its crystal blue waters and beaches that make a sun worshiper believe they have died and gone on to another world, a better world. In addition to these deep blue waters and sandy white beaches, the Bahamas is also home to some wonderful authors and writers, including a homegrown writer Dave Gayle, life coach Denika Carothers, short story writer Shawn T. Gardiner, meteorologist Wayne Neely, Bahamian born published writer Alison Albury, romantic author Wendy Coakley-Thompson, and well known actor and author Sydney Poitier, these are just a few of the authors and writers, and if you happen to visit take a stop by the Salt Cay Writers Retreat. If you travel to the Bahamas you might want to pick up a book from one of these Bahamians to read while sitting on one of the beautiful beaches.
The criteria I have chosen for choosing a weekend cruise to The Bahamas suggest that I should depart from Miami following the weekend starting Friday December 5 to Sunday December 9, in a cruise ship capable of accommodating a minimum of 1500 passenger with a max of 2000 passengers. The cruise ship shouldn’t be older than 10 years if never renovated. If renovated it should be 5 years from the date renovation was finished. The entire cruise for two should not exceed $600. My recommendation for the weekend cruise to The Bahamas is option 3 or ship 3. According to the criteria I assign for this cruise, ship 1 (The Bahamas Paradise) is the more indicating to travel on. Apparently fits the criteria with the exception of the
Costa Rica is a very beautiful and unique place. It was my first time going there and I loved it! It was much different than the United States in ways I didn’t mind or even enjoyed. We saw many things and went many places while we were down there. I am ready to go back again already and do new, exciting things. However, we did a lot while we were down there.
In August of 2010, our church embarked on a work and witness trip to Jamaica. The group consisted of two teams, a work and a ministry team. The work team assisted the people of Westmoreland to complete their local church. The ministry team presented bible stories and skits through puppetry at various locations. This Mission was called "Maddy's Mission".
How would you feel if you been on a Disney Caribbean Cruise? I want to tell you about the time my family and I went on a Disney Caribbean Cruise for our summer vacation. The people that went on the cruise with me was my mom, my 15 year old brother and I was 16 years old at the time. It was as a seven night cruise. On Disney Caribbean Cruise we also stop at their private island, called “Castaway Cay”.
Thank you for supporting me on my summer mission trip with Yadah Performing Arts Ministry to Cape Coral, FL this summer. In our 10 day tour, we had 4 shows, 3 on Sunday, and 1 midweek. In our trip, not only did we perform for Spanish speaking Churches in Cape Coral, but we also had a “Faith Boot-Camp”, a service project, and sightseeing.
Ever since I started in high school, mission work has been a major part of my life. For the past three years, for two weeks at a time, I have been going to the poorest region of Jamaica. The organization I have been a part of is called American Caribbean Experience, or ACE for short. The experiences I have had while doing mission work in Jamaica have changed my life forever. In order to pursue my passion for mission work I decided to apply for an internship with ACE. I was chosen along with six other people to become interns for the summer of 2018. This internship will be the first thing I do as soon as I graduate because I leave May 23rd and we graduate May 21st. This internship will also prepare me for my long term goal of becoming a doctor
The Caribbean is a vastly diverse area representing the effects of colonialism, slavery, and the combination of many cultures.
The Bahamas The Bahamas is full of a vast array of inimitable little islands, populated by the laid back people of the Caribbean. Great Exuma is one of these, a place of warm tranquillity and relaxation, a place where peace can be found. A minute number of people inhabit the 90 mile stretch of land where you will find an amazing variety of wildlife.
AAs I looked out the window of the bus, I see people huddled around fires and destroyed buildings. While I am overcome with anxiety, fear and terror, I think to myself, “What have I gotten myself into?” I wonder if I made the right choice to go on this mission trip and how life would be in Jamaica. Although I had all of these doubts about Jamaica, I knew I was not here on a vacation and instead was here to help the disabled children and adults in the Mustard Seed Communities.
UNESCO’s heritage site helps inform true authorization of detail and multiple resources. I think everyone should be updated and educated. Next, it is important to know your source of information. While traveling is amazing knowing a little history will make it even more exciting . I believe most citizens would enjoy a paid expense for a Monthly trip to Cuba , Wadi Al-Hitan, Whale Valley, and Italy Historic Centre of Urbino. In my trip I learned about historical lands, and there importance to traditional
In a quaint little village tucked away on a beautiful Caribbean island, lays the seaside town of Runaway bay. A town filled with deep rooted culture on an island filled with welcoming natives. The pleasant vibes of reggae music and Rastafarian culture flow from the hills to the sandy shores. This island rich with tropical fruits and spices is located in the heart of the Greater Antilles. History tells that the enslaved island once known to its natives as “Xaymeca”, has come a long way in becoming the independent nation known today as Jamaica. In the Sea of many islands known as the West Indies, Jamaica stands peaceful, welcoming tourist and expanding rapidly. From an early age my passion for the island and its culture
The African retentions in the Caribbean are dominating. That is because almost 90% of the African slaves were brought to the Caribbean. The ways of making music in the Caribbean is highly affected because they play European instruments, such as the Tress guitar and the Guiro, in African ways. It is easy to notice this retention in the Son music in Cuba and Plena in Puerto Rico. Also, the intertwine of art such dance, sing, and drama is popular as well. For example, in Rumba, as the couple demonstrates seductive kind of dancing for entertainment purposes, others play drums and maintain call-and- response kind of singing.
