Plants are an essential part of survival for humans and animals and contribute significantly to various areas of the lives of organisms. In order to better understand the different plants and its requirements the growth and germination rates were investigated. The hypothesis stated that if the dicotolydeons and monocotyledons are placed in the same environment and watered regularly, then the dicotyledons will have a faster growth and germination rate.
In order for plants to survive, it is a necessity for the process of photosynthesis to occur. Photosynthesis is the process wherein plants create oxygen and food for themselves (glucose) using carbon dioxide, water and energy from the sun. Once this process is completed, plants are able to grow using the nutrients provided by photosynthesis.
Word equation: carbon dioxide + water (SUNLIGHT AND CHLORYPHYLL) glucose + oxygen
There are many factors that affect photosynthesis such as light availability, carbon dioxide concentration and temperature. Light is a limiting factor as if there is not enough light available, the rate of photosynthesis will decrease. This is because without the light, the chlorophyll (not be created) will be unable to absorb energy from the sun, resulting in no food which is required for survival. Temperature plays an essential role in photosynthesis as well. As the temperature increases, so does the rate of photosynthesis. As it is a chemical reaction, an increase in temperature will cause enzymes and
Photosynthesis and cell respiration are some of the two most important biological processes that organisms go through. Photosynthesis is the biological process plants undergo to convert light energy into chemical energy. In chloroplasts the chlorophyll act as catalysts for this process. The process uses carbon dioxide (CO2) and Water (H2O) in order to produce glucose (C6H1206) and oxygen (02). Thus, it is read as 6CO2 + 6H2O —> C6H12O6 + 6O2. Photosynthesis is split into two different processes. The first process is light Dependent meaning i uses energy being absorbed to break down and molecules at a rapid photosynthetic rate. The second process is Light Independent meaning it uses ATP and NADH absorbed during when light was present to breakdown glucose instead. Therefore, Healthy plants are green because Chlorophyll absorbs red and blue light, but reflects green light signifying stored light. Some Anaerobic bacteria undergo photosynthesis meaning it can’t grow in oxygen and uses Carbon Dioxide and other substances like hydrogen sulfide to photosynthesis. In general all plants need Carbon Dioxide. (Ensminger, 2014)
The diagram above shows the two stages of photosynthesis. As you can see, light is a key component as it start the light-dependent reactions which produces ATP and NADPH, which is needed in the light-independent reactions to make glucose. So without light, there is no ATP and NADPH produced and thus no glucose produced, therefore the food chain cannot be started. Glucose is also needed to make DNA and hormones for plant growth, it is also require during plant respiration. So it can be established the light is vital for plant growth and it affects the height of plants indefinitely.
Photosynthesis occurs each time the sun’s light reaches the lives of a plant. The chemical ingrediants for photosynthesis are carbon dioxide (CO2), a gas that passes from the air into a plant via tiny pores, and water (H20), which absorbed from the soil by the plant’s roots. Inside leaf cells, tiny structures called chloroplasts use light energy to rearrange the atoms of the ingrediants to produce sugars, most importantly glucose (C6H12O6) and other organic molecules. Chlorophyll gives the plant its green color (Simon, 02/2012, pp. 92-93). Chemical reactions transfers the sun’s light energy into the chemical bonds that hold energy-carrying molecules. The most common are
The purpose of this experiment is to observe the effects of Sodium Chloride (NaCl) on the germination rate of Wisconsin Fast Plants.
Photosynthesis is the conversion of light energy to chemical energy into sugars. It is the process in plants that uses carbon dioxide, water, and sunlight from its surroundings and releases oxygen as a byproduct (6H2O+6CO2+light energy -> C6H12O6+6O2). Photosynthesis is required for plants because they are autotrophs, organisms that make their own food. Plants require a specific environment that is ideal to them to be able to carry out the process. Environmental conditions can either increase or decrease the rate of photosynthesis. Things like colors of light, pH, and temperature can all affect the rate of photosynthesis in plants.
Photosynthesis is a process used by plants and other organisms to convert light energy into chemical energy that can later be released to fuel the organisms ' activities. Plants need photosynthesis to survive. The balanced chemical equation for photosynthesis is 6 CO2 + 6 H2O ? C6H12O6 + 6 O2. In English terms, this equation translates to six carbon dioxide plus six
Light intensity does affect the rate of photosynthesis. Too much light may cause plants to "burn out" or stop producing oxygen while too little light will not provide enough light for optimal photosynthesis activity and CO2 would stop be taken in and oxygen would stop being produced.
Therefore, I was correct in my hypothesis that dark will have an effect on the germination of radish seeds. Also, I was very close in predicting that the seeds grown in the light will germinate twice as much as the seeds grown in the dark; the control seeds grew a little less than double the size of the experimental seeds. Ultimately, my experiment proved that light is a very important factor in the growth of any plant. However, I’ve learned that seeds grown in the dark will germinate, though slowly, as
How does temperature affect photosynthesis? My hypothesis is if the temperature is not right then the photosynthesis process can become disturbed because temperatures have to be perfect based on the plant, otherwise, the plant may not be able to survive, which would make the process of photosynthesis to slow down or maybe even stop. Jerry L.Hatfield, John H.Prueger, https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2212094715300116, explains that temperatures have to be perfect based on the plant because the plant may not be able to withstand other temperatures. They say, “Temperature is a primary factor affecting the rate of plant development.” Temperature is important, and if it is affected then it can affect the process of photosynthesis.
The universal knowledge on what plants need to grow are sunlight, water, and soil. Plants use these things in a chemical reaction called photosynthesis. In photosynthesis, plants use energy from the sun to synthesize foods from carbon dioxide and water. Through this processes, they make food for themselves for growth while providing humans with a vital odorless gas called oxygen. Plants use the sun for energy in order to make their food which helps them grow.
Photosynthesis is how the first oxygen came to Earth. For photosynthesis to happen there has to be three key elements present; water, carbon dioxide, and sunlight. Plants capture sunlight using chlorophyll as stated in http://www.ducksters.com/science/photosynthesis.php, “Plants capture sunlight using a compound called chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is green, which is why so many plants appear green.” A lot of people think producing oxygen is why organisms use photosynthesis but actually they use photosynthesis as a way of making food for themselves. Oxygen is just a byproduct of photosynthesis. Another byproduct of photosynthesis is water vapor. Caused The Great Oxygenation
Photosynthesis is essential to all living organism such as animals and plants. Photosynthesis is a process used by plants and other autotrophs to capture light energy and use it to power chemical reaction that converts carbon dioxide and water into oxygen, carbohydrates and water. (Textbook: Principles of Biology). The reactants and the products of photosynthesis are:
Photosynthesis is a reproductive system that occurs in plants. The main components required for photosynthesizing are sunlight, energy, water and mineral from soil, and carbon dioxide from the air. Once these components are combined they
The purpose of the project was to determine whether Eucalyptus globulus had an effect on the germination of radish seeds. It was hypothesized that Eucalyptus globulus would have a negative effect on the germination of the seeds and their growth.
Chamomile and yarrow are both medicinal plants cultivated all over the world in an effort to determine the main active compounds from plant materials. The main factors that influence plant growth and development are temperature, light, and plant date. An extensive amount of studies have been done on the effect of controlled conditions on the growth of in vitro and in vivo chamomile and yarrow cultures (Giorgi et al., 2014; Mohammad et al., 2010).
