Do firemen start a fire or turn it off? This was a question every reader had while reading the book” Fahrenheit 451” by Ray Bradbury. The story takes place in the future where some ideas are misunderstood like preferring ignorance instead of knowledge. The society Montag lives in don’t like books or nature, they prefer fire and technology like his wife Mildred and his friend Beatty. At the beginning, Montag was equal with the society about loving fire, however, he got enlightened by Clarisse and Faber and is thirsty for knowledge as the story goes which shows that knowledge enlightens people’s mind if they choose to have it. Montag is a fireman who is close minded, loved fire, and hated books. Instead of turning the fire off, he started it up. “with his helmet number 451 on his stolid head, and his eyes all orange flame with the thought of what came next” (pg.1) this quote shows how interested Montag is watching that flame with proudness and that he loved his job. The author is describing Guy Montag before the individual change. The society grew with the idea of hating books “it was a pleasure to burn” (pg.1) which is the idea that was stuck in everyone’s minds. The author is showing the society can’t escape from this idea because they don’t see anything wrong with it that it became normal to them and showing that It became normal to Montag too “"Kerosene is nothing but perfume to me" (pg.4) this quote shows that kerosene became normal to Montag and it
