For the last month or so I’ve been reading Fahrenheit 451. Fahrenheit 451 is a science fiction novel that was written by Ray Bradbury. It was originally written in 1953. It is about a dystopian universe where it is illegal to read or own books. In the book the characters are Guy Montag (a firefighter who burns books), Mildred (Montag’s wife), and Beatty (Montag’s boss who is also a firefighter).
I like the concept and plot of the book, but I don’t like the book itself. It’s extremely hard to follow the book because of the way the words are written and the flow of the words. While in a way, you must appreciate how well an author Mr. Bradbury was. The book was beautifully detailed.
I feel conflicted towards Montag. He burns books and he’s actively part of a society that instead of respecting knowledge and education, they would much

Clarisse is a young bright girl who is introduced in the beginning of the book. She’s my favorite because she’s immensely interesting. I love how unique she is from all the other characters. She is a thinker and a questioner. She doesn’t go with the status quo. I love the scene about the flower where she thinks it will show if you’re in love with someone or not. She refuses to conform. It’s interesting the way Montag interacts with Clarisse. He’s perplexed about her and unsure how to respond to her, but simultaneously, he can’t stop thinking about her because she’s different from all the people he surrounds himself with.
In the book, Clarisse asked him, “Are you happy?” It’s a very simple question but it’s sad that she noticed his discontent with life when everyone who knew him longer and better didn’t even see his that he was depressed. It might be that they didn’t see because he was so great an actor or because it was so deep in himself that it was extremely hard to see it. All the reasons mentioned above are logical but I believe that they merely didn’t care enough to scrutinize his
In the book Fahrenheit 451, written by Ray Bradbury, the author predicts the future of today’s society. Bradbury predicted the future of today’s technology and societal issues. Some technology from the book that is similar to today is the small electronic earpieces that fit into peoples’ ears to communicate with people; nowadays, it exists and people call it Bluetooth. In addition, there was large flat screen televisions that were the size of a wall. Technology is part of the societal issues from the book, they are similar to today’s society because the people do not care about reading or gaining knowledge anymore, it’s all about television and technology. In addition, suicide is not taken care of or prevented properly It is almost as suicide is taken as a joke. Actually, there are many ways today’s society is similar to the book, society that Bradbury based in the future containing advanced technology and societal issues.

Clarisse begins walking with Montag every day and he grows very fond of her insight and childlike playfulness. Clarisse reminds him of his childhood and renews his interest in life--the interest that he didn't realize he had lost. Over the next several weeks, Clarisse and Montag develop a friendly relationship. They talk about ideas and thoughts in a way that no one in this society seems to do anymore. Because of Clarisse's influence, Montag grows more concerned about his own life. Then one day, Clarisse disappears and Montag is troubled. Work troubles him even more, for he must participate in burning an old woman's home. Refusing to leave her books and her belongings, she lights her own fire and stays inside, dying a martyr. Montag is moved by the woman's bravery and sees it as a symbol of what is wrong with society. Almost in protest, he steals a book from the woman's house.
Of all literary works regarding dystopian societies, Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 is perhaps one of the most shocking, and relatable books. The setting takes place in America at some point in the future, when the government has banned books and society is caught up in television. However, a fireman in the city named, Guy Montag, discovers books and a desire for knowledge is ignited within him. Unfortunately his boss, Captain Beatty, catches on to his love for literature. A man who is quite dishonest, Beatty sets up Montag to ultimately to have his home destroyed and be forced to leave the city.

Censorship has been around the centuries for a long time. Censorship means a suppression or prohibition of any parts of books, films, news, etc that can be considered a non- posing threat or threat to our society. Censorship can be impacting many children, teens, and even adults today. Imagine yourself 50 years from now, what will you be doing? What do you think the world would be like? In Fahrenheit 451 the future is full of strange things and ideas like burning books and keeping information from society. When I think of society 50 years from now, I imagine a world full of technology and information. When I think of architecture, I imagine immensely tall buildings made almost completely of glass.

The main point of this chapter states that the real motivation for any quest in literature is the search for self-knowledge. Essentially, the given reason for a particular quest is never the true motive for embarking on the quest. The five components of a quest include the quester, a specific place to go, a stated reason for going, different challenges or obstacles, and the actual reason for going on the quest. In Touching Spirit Bear by Ben Mikaelsen, the main character, a juvenile delinquent named Cole Matthews, beats a classmate onto the floor of his school sidewalk. As an alternative to prison, Cole is sent to a remote Alaskan island as banishment for beating the student, Peter Driscal.
