As we get to know Robert’s mother, we find that as a young adult, she was a very sporty and social kind of person but as she entered Motherhood, she had to throw all this away and became an overprotective mother. Her fear of not being in control has been developed from “[the new] strange hot, dry place [they were living in, and being a] mother, she was taking no chances”. The idea is an autonomic response in the brain with many parts of the brain involved. Both of the processes happen simultaneously ("Layton, Julia"). The brain uses your blood stream and nervous system to create fear.
