Feedback from respondents:
I shared my ESCI report with Mustafa Rahman, my colleague at the MBA program, Mr. Chris Kilala, my colleague of nine years at Atlantique Telecom, Ivory Coast (my previous place employment), and Mrs. Christine Eruokwu, my lovely wife and friend of seventeen years who probably knows me more than I know myself.
Mustafa, indicated that he agreed with my scores in all aspects of the report and emphasized the need for me to work on my conflict management skills. He indicated that I have the tendency to always want to win arguments in class which often leads to tension and conflict, albeit unknown to me. I must admit that I have never really noticed any tension and conflict in my relationship with my classmates. However, I have to go with his assessment as he probably sees aspects of me that could be in my blind spot.
Chris rated me 3.0 on ‘empathy’ and 4.8 on ‘influence’. He cited several instances at work where I had failed to entertain excuses from my direct reports on failures that were not completely due to their own faults, as a show of lack of empathy. He viewed my management style at work to be a bit authoritarian and advised that I need to work on understanding other people’s “side of the story”. He scored me higher on ‘Influence’ compared to the ESCI report, because in his view, I often got management’s buy-ins on initiatives I championed at Atlantique Telecom. I never really did see myself as an influential person at work. Overall, I agree
This eye-opening assessment produced 17 excels, 57 competents and 43 need to develops. There are several areas that need attention and improvement for my leadership communications skills. With practice and faith anyone can improve. From Mark
3600 feedback is a process in which someone’s performance is assessed and feedback is given by a number of people who may include their manager, subordinates, colleagues and customers (Michael Armstrong 2009:644). The debate surrounds a point of whether it offers a means of overcoming the traditional limitations of appraisal.
The category in which I rated as only good, or a possible opportunity for improvement, is synergize. I believe I scored myself low in two out of three categories because it has been an incredible weakness in the past and one I have been working on for quite some time. While I have significantly improved in this area I continually work on this factor of working better with people by seeking their input. In doing so, I rate myself harshly on this aspect, despite the progress I have made, because I am not as competent as I would like to be.
I intend to pursue an MBA in Finance. The said concentration will equip me with the relevant skills I require to succeed as a finance director in a reputable organization my long-term career goal. I am certain that with an MBA in finance from a reputable institution like Terry College of Business, I will not encounter any difficulties securing employment in a top firm. This is more so the case given that as the college points out in its website, "our programs not only get you to the table-they keep you there" (Terry College of Business, 2013). For this reason, I am certain that having an MBA in finance from a top business school will jumpstart my career and shepherd it in the right direction.
I rated myself between competent and expert in the three areas of career planning. I understand my role in my current job and I have a full understanding of where I want to be in the future. My career path has me staying at my present employer. I love working for my state’s Quality Improvement Organization. I am surrounded by people who are striving to better health care for all residents in Wisconsin and I am thrilled to be part of this team!
Upon completing a stage in life, such as the completion of a graduate program, it is productive to reflect upon that experience and ponder the motivation for that course of action, as well as ponder the utility of that experience. As my graduate program comes to a conclusion, now is the time for me to discuss the components of the program that have been of particular value to me, and why such program components have been of value.
Hence it can be seen that still the best option for Ben would be to get an MBA from Wilton University as it has the highest NPV value. However his decision on whether to borrow the money or not might get affected.
Attached to this email is my final reflection. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for allowing me to attend this trip. My story is something I have not shared with anyone before Cape Town. It is something I locked up inside of me and has haunted me for the past 12 years. I opened myself to this group not because I wanted pity or people to feel sorry for me, I did it because it was truly what I needed. This group was an incredible cohort of loving and passionate individuals.
1. Social comparison event: In fall semester I did take a german class. I did not take German classes since 2 years ago, and in language field it is very important to keep practice the language to remain in our memory. The German class was having an advanced student that good in speak and write. I did compare myself with an active native German student because I feel that I did the same when I start taking german classes before. I was very active in my old german classes and I took the best grade. When I started my german class in the U.T was so difficult and I did stack myself up against other student who was better than me as I was better than other in my old german class. I had a feeling that is matter of time to remember, what I did forgot
Glynn Lloyd as a listener would be rated as a 8. I think that Lloyd get a 8 because he has done things for his employees that no other business would probably do. For example, when he decided to establish the 40 hours of ESL to help the employees that didn’t speak English learn English. When Lloyd noticed however, that 40 hours was too much for ESL he decided to shorten it and only require his employee to learn basic phrases used on the job. Although, in cutting the 40 hours it made Kurt Stegenga the company’s logistic manager want to spend more time with the employees to teach them the things they needed to know and help them read better. I feel Lloyd should get an 8 because he thinks that with demonstration the employees that don’t know English
My agreeableness score was 78 and I’ll break it down specifically in a minute. One point I absolutely disagree with in this IPIP-NEO report states that “agreeableness is not useful in situations that require tough or absolute objective decisions.” (IPIP-NEO) I am the policy and procedures manager for our department and these policies and procedures are cut and dry, follow them or risk government penalties. These policies and procedures have to be enforced to the letter of our manual to ensure the safety of everyone involved both the customer and employee. My highest scores within this dimension were morality (97) and modesty (81). I am very candid and frank with everyone I deal with, whether it’s my direct reports, my boss, or the VP of our department. The lowest score within this dimension was sympathy (31). If this score is just relating to the work environment, then I agree with this score, people who get into trouble or don’t complete their work, bring this upon themselves; if not, I vehemently disagree with it. I am a very compassionate person in my personal life. An example in this area would be that of a direct report. In a sense he was given the choice to resign or face termination. I gave him the tools and direction to succeed, basically a results-oriented work
My open mindedness matters to me most. My experiences as a cross-cultural teen instilled this value in me.
Based on the results, I have many areas where I excel and would be considered a strength. Looking at the five practices data summary my top two areas where I was rated the highest was model the way and enable others to act. The average score for model the way was 53 and I received an average score of 53.9 for enable others to act. While these two were the highest, the other categories were not far off with the lowest average score of 48.8. Based on the overall picture I did not seem to have drastic areas within these five, which were scored significantly higher than other areas. However, by looking at areas that were scored
Ben Bates graduated from college six years ago with a finance undergraduate degree. Although he is satisfied with his current job, his goal is to become an investment banker. He feels that an MBA degree would allow him to achieve his goal. After examining schools, he has narrowed his choice to either Wilton University or Mount Perry College. Although internships are encouraged by both schools, to get class credit for the internship, no salary can be paid. Other than internships, neither school will allow its students to work while enrolled in its MBA program.
A study design is the procedure that guides a researcher on how to collect, analyze and interpret observations. It is a logical model that guides the investigator while he navigates through the various stages of the research. Study types can be classified severally depending on the research strategy employed. A study type can be non-interventional that is ‘observational’ where a researcher just observes and analyses researchable objects or situations without intervening. Non-interventional study designs can be exploratory, descriptive or comparative. A study can also be
