This has changed the challenges I think I will face as a teacher because I thought that it would be possible to teach all the children at the same level, but after learning about ZPD and working with some student’s during field experience, I have come to see that all my students will be starting my class at different levels. Two of the students at my field experience attend the same middle school class. The girl was able to work through her homework easily after I explained some of the word problems to her, but the boy had trouble answering the problems because he did not know how to multiply three digit numbers by two digit numbers. At his grade level, he should have been able to do this. Because of this, I will face the challenge of making
Lonnie B. Nelson Elementary is a public education institution in Richland 2 School District located in Columbia, SC. The school was established in 1963 and celebrated its fifty-third birthday this year. Much has changed since the doors first opened at the “hive” over a half-century ago, but tradition and history remains just a rich as the community it belongs to. Lonnie B. was named after a local prominent businessman who also served as a member on the school board. In an efforts to recognize his contributions and work for the community, the school was founded after Mr. Nelson. The original structures of the school still reside in the well-developed elementary school that Lonnie B. has transformed into
I have extremely high interest in practicing primary care medicine especially in underserved areas due to the nature of the task. Medicine in these areas tends to be independent in nature in that you get to experience unique and interesting medical cases. I very much appreciate the intellectual stimulation it would most likely provide while also serving communities that most likely need healthcare the most.
I conducted my field experience through the Forsyth County School System in conjunction with the Forsyth County Parks and Recreational Department. The students or “campers” as we like to call them are comprised of two groups. One group is special needs students ranging from ages six to twelve. The second group ranges from ages thirteen to twenty and are also special needs students. The younger campers attend classes from 8:30-1:00 and the older students attend from 1:30-5:00.
In assessment, validity and reliability are two major factors. “Validity is the soundness of your interpretations and uses of students’ assessment results” (Brookhart & Nitko, 2015, p. 38). This basically means, does the assessment measure what it was intended to measure? Validity has four principles: interpretations, uses, values, and consequences. An example of a valid assessment is the SAT. The SAT is valid, because it provides the assessor evidence to make appropriate interpretations and uses. The assessor is able to make meaningful judgments and actions based on the scores of the SAT (Brookhart & Nitko, 2015, p. 38-40). The other important factor is reliability. “Reliability is the degree to which students’ results remain consistent over replications of assessment procedure” (Brookhart & Nitko, 2015, p.67). For example, if a test is valid, the student should score consistently with no intervention. However, if a treatment or invention occurs, the score should be altered. An
This week was a good week at fieldwork. This week we saw a total of 16 patients and their diagnosis were: generalized weakness, severe arthritis, CVA, dementia, below the knee amputee and knee replacement. This week I treated 4 patients (2 at each facility) and documented the treatment session on my assigned pts. During treatment sessions, I was able to adapt and grade the activity quickly. Treatments that were performed were: dynamic sitting balance, dynamic standing balance, aarom, theraband exercises, crossing midline, transfers, arm bike and
Over the seven-week field work term I worked as an assistant to a casting director, Gayle Keller and her associate, Alison Krischner, at Louis C.K.’s company, Pig Newton. Gayle has casted many television shows and movies, such as Amy Schumer’s Trainwreck. At the beginning of term, they had me doing a lot of printing, and filing of deal memo’s. These deal memo’s are the employment agreements that contained who we were hiring and their information such as where they live, their phone numbers, and their social security numbers, what the actor is being hired to do, what they are being paid, their work days, and other miscellaneous details.
On 8/8/2016, at 10:45 a.m., the Field Investigator arrived at 20121 Ventura Boulevard, Suite 208, Woodland Hills, CA 91364 in the attempt to personally serve David Moshe a subpoena attached with this investigation.
Students that are on level are often able to answer the question with very minimal support and do not require much help from the teacher. Students that are working below level may receive the same problem with a different set of numbers to challenge them at their level and will need teacher support to answer the question. The task is challenging to both groups of students but is varied based on ability.
I believe that my assessment was accurate and fair. One example I can perceive as a bias, would be my inability to differentiate Western students from other students. Once I completed the fieldwork component of the assignment, I had asked my female friend what was the “Western” look. She explained that females wear Canadian goose jackets, Hunter rubber boots, and lululemon tights. Afterwards, it had hit me. I had been oblivious to my surroundings the whole time. However, if I were to be in an environment that was different from Western’s, then maybe I would be able to see the difference. I also pondered whether there was a male “Western” look or not, but could not come to a conclusion. I also was not able to divide the Asian students into
For my field experience hours I had the privilege of working at Angels Reach Academy for Divergent Learners. As fate would have it in February of this year I was offered a position and I jumped at the opportunity. My sister who is also a teacher started working there at the start of the school year. Unfortunately, at the time there were no position available for me as well. However, in February a position became available and that meant I would be for the first time working with children of varying disabilities. I began on Feberuary 10, 2016, I was nervous and eager all at the same time.
Most of the students in this course were concurrently taking a Biology course but because they are at different grade levels, some are in either higher or lower level classes. This makes reviewing for a particular class level difficult because there would be students left out of the information who either knew the information causing them to get bored or a student who has not been taught yet the precursors to this information who would then struggle to correctly complete the work. The ZPD is a term used in Educational Psychology by Robert Slavin when he discusses Lev Vygotsky’s social development theories. The theory separates knowledge into three categories 1- what I can do 2- what I can do with help, and 3- what I can’t do. The Zone of Proximal development is a term for the second category where teachers can successfully help guide students towards knowledge. The way that this teacher has been able to educate such a varying classroom shows that the zone of proximal development is large enough for a range of students. Sometimes there will be an exceptional student who either is already knows the information or who is struggling. In that instance the student who has reached the “What I can do” stage already may be accelerated in that subject or made to work on a different subject they are having
I’m Sean Scannell, and I’m a second semester senior here at Worcester State. I’m an English major who formerly had a minor in secondary education, but instead I now seek to obtain my initial licensure in education through field work experience, as opposed to through the school’s licensure program. I’ve been reading everything I can get my hands on since I was young. I practically grew up in my town’s local library, and find myself still fond of authors I read from as a teenager, namely Stephen King, Terry Pratchett, Dan Brown, John Green, J.K. Rowling, and many other commercial writers.
A description of your field education experience to include an explanation of your agency, the types of social services offered, and the population groups or clientele served by your agency.
The second semester of my field internship has not been what I expected. Things have appeared to become more complex due to internship requirements, school's requirements, and personal obligations I have. Initially I believed that the internship process would run smoother because we would have the same clients and carry on as we did from the previous semester. However, that has not been the case. We have been assigned new clients, it is harder to reach superior staff, and the time constraints of everything on my plate is beginning to overwhelm me. My internship experience is starting to me make want to expedite to the end of April so that the field experience is over. I expected for us intern to be more hands on and more engaged with clients. However, for it things have did the opposite as I sit at my desk too much for comfort. I only have met with 3 clients so far this spring semester. Two of the clients are no longer clients that I see. However, I still have 1 of the clients and I took her for a psychological evaluation this month. That was a new experience for me. I was also able to actively engage with her during the ride back to the agency. I was able to experience
