People all around the world are becoming interested in forensic science. Students across the nation are taking courses in this very popular science. Many colleges are adopting classes and majors just for it. Why has this science become so popular? Is it because of the lack of people in the field now, and the overwhelming job opportunities that come with a degree in forensic science? Is it because the field is so interesting, and catchy that everyone is flooding to be in the programs? Or is the recent growth of this field due to the numerous television and media coverage of the subject? One thing is for sure, people really are starting to get interested in this field, and it is getting
Hi, my name is Rebecca Kiger, my program of study is Forensic Science. I am planning on graduating from Forsyth Tech in Spring of 2019. From this class I am expecting to have a deeper understanding phycological human traits. Psycology will help understand the after effects of human behaviour as a Crime Scene Investigator.I have been out of school for three years. Is this this first year of college for anyone
It is not uncommon for someone to use terminology when they are having a conversation with another person. But, how often are they actually using the saying in the right context? When people hear about a tragic crime they usually will add the comment, “that person was in the wrong place at the wrong time.” When “wrong place at the wrong time” is said it often is being used in a way that blames the victim instead of focusing on the wrong the attacker has done. Although most the time the person using this saying does not mean to blame the victim they are, they are finding an accuse as to why the attacker did what they did. If anyone were to go on google and look up “wrong place at the wrong time” you will find hundreds of articles that are all
Competency means mastery, the state in which an individual or organization can provide services in accordance with the law, rules of ethics, and the expectations of all stakeholders. The value of competency can actually be quantified, as organizations seek to measure the effects of their failures via cost accounting (Brett, n.d.). In law enforcement, we cannot put a price on professional competency. Human lives are at stake, as is the credibility and efficiency of the entire criminal justice system. The value of competency therefore cannot be estimated and must be continually re-evaluated and assessed. As a Detective working in the field of Forensic Identification, I must always be aware of the core competencies of my profession and ensure that I am fulfilling those core competencies every day.
We encounter scientists in almost everything we read or hear about in the news today. If we watch a nightly news program to check the weather for tomorrow it as created by a meteorologist, a person who studies the atmosphere. A meteorologist uses scientific principles to explain, comprehend, and observe the atmosphere’s effects on the planet, otherwise known as a forecast. While watching the news a reporter might relay a story about how a crime was solved with forensic science, an application of scientific methods to criminal and civil laws. A forensic scientist collects, preserves, and analyzes evidence during the course of an investigation to find out what actually happened. We may see these scientists interviewed in a crime documentary or portrayed as a character in a television show or movie.
In forensic science, corpses from various homicides are different. There are both complete and incomplete corpses, depending on the causes of death or the forms of homicide. For example, some corpses are cut into pieces, some are camouflaged by dumping into the river, some are buried, some are burned to destroy the evidence, and others. If the corpses are incomplete, it can lead to the difficulty of personally identifying because some tissues and bones are destroyed.
I chose to write my critique over an article which explains how physicists can use their science to help figure out what really happened in certain forensic cases such as faulty products or murder trials. Within this article it is explained exactly how we can use science to distinguish what really happened such as whether or not something was a suicide or a murder, whether or not a car was actually speeding, or even just to double check a witness testimony. While some courts do not take seriously the testimonies of physicists it is important for the scientific community to acknowledge them and the different ways that they can use their trade.
Indescribably, technology has entered every aspect of our life and to no surprise has become almost futuristic as it helps define our crime solving abilities. Forensics actually is the fastest growing criminal justice field in America. Seemingly always in the background, forensics is a major part of our criminal justice systems as a whole. Forensic Science has contributed to our world a great deal in multiple ways, and very significant ways. By the close of the 20th century, forensic scientists had a wealth of high-tech tools at their disposal for analyzing evidence from polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for DNA analysis, to digital fingerprinting techniques with computer search capabilities (Stephanie). To start off, Criminal Investigation is the largest and most known form of Forensic Science. Some of the more known areas include Fingerprinting, Ballistics, DNA Identification, Fiber Samples, Computer Animation, and Documentation analysis.
Measurements play a vital role in the world that we live in. They are important in completing anything from basic household tasks to the architecture of a building. In general, there are many different areas in our everyday lives that consist of measurements. Administering medicine to patients in a hospital consists of measuring. In a life or death situation, one can understand how crucial it is to be error free when giving the correct dosage. In the field of forensic science, measurements are just as important. They can determine the innocence or guilt of an individual. Forensic science requires an abundance of measurement skills.
Ever since I was young I was drawn to helping people. With this mindset, I always wanted to do something in the Justice System. Combining my faith, my love of helping people and love for science I have come to the conclusion that I wanted to pursue forensic science,
One of the questions that have been presented toward the law enforcement field is whether or not forensic science should be trusted when presented as evidence in a court case. Some people believe that forensic science has evolved well enough and has now become a legitimate way to know what happened during a crime. Other people believe that it is an inaccurate method of determining what happened during a crime and that it is not appropriate to present as evidence and should rely on other methods instead.
ISIL is a well-known terrorist group in Iraq and Levant (Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant) (Original name was al-Qaeda in Iraq). They started as an Al-Qaeda splinter group and targeted non-Muslims, Yazidis and members of the sect. ISIL has more than 30,000 fighters and funds itself by oil fields. These oil fields produce $2 million from 50,000 barrels per day. Weapons and supplies pass across the border of Turkey.Abu Musab AL-Zarqawi was the first leader of ISIL which he began in 1999. When he died in 2006 in a U.S. bomb raiding, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi took over. The 43 year-old has only been seen in two pictures which were released by Iraq’s Interior Ministry. He usually wears a mask, even when talking to his soldiers. He became the leader
