While the investigation of the disloyal payment was going on, and almost knowing that both of them were guilty, on October 2015 the FIFA president, Sepp Blatter, and the European football boss (UEFA) Michel Platini were suspended for 90 days. Suspension was not the only problem that FIFA and UEFA president had to face. Both of them were fined with a not very nice quantity of money when it comes to pay it. Sepp Blatter was fined with 50,000 Swiss francs, while Michel Platini was fined with 80,000 Swiss francs.
As it was expected, the day of his suspension Sepp Blatter came out and talked to the people. In a press conference he tried to defend himself by saying that he was sorry, but that’s not the only thing he said, he also had the time to try to explain how everything had happened. He said that everything started back in 1998 after the World Cup in France which was held in the summer of that year. He said that Michel Platini came up to him and told him that he wanted to work for FIFA. Blatter also said that when Platini told him that he wanted to work for FIFA, he also that he was a very expensive man.
Blatter said to him that was OK, but at the time they did not had the money to pay him. At the press conference he said that he very astonished with the decision that was made and also he was astonished because he could not believe that they deny the existence of such agreement. According to him this
Always wanting to better himself, having a passion for sports, mainly soccer or football, internationally, Blazer basically wanted to bring Fédération Internationale de Football Association, FIFA, to the United States. As the story goes, it happens Blazers gets it done among other things, working his way to the top of the FIFA committee board, making millions the international committee, but just like everything that goes up, it must come down. There were three major key players in the scandal: one being Blazer himself, Joseph Blatter, and Jack Warner attracted attention to themselves, particularly by the FBI. Hundreds and thousands, even millions of money being in places that they should not have been in. Lavish vacation trips, exclusive dinners, million dollar hotel rooms and huge amounts of money being used as payoffs are just to name a few were taken notice by the FBI. And just like the any old story, judgement day. It seems that though Blazer, just like any other person be willing to save their own hide, was willing to cooperate with the FBI into bring down this whole corruption cycle within
Taking down a corrupt part of a company is no easy task, but yet it is possible. The main target to defeating FIFA is the sponsorships (Oliver). Since FIFA is a non-profit organization, they rely on their partners such as Adidas, Coca Cola, and Mcdonalds. Fifa is estimated to making about $45bn (Critchlow) from sponsorships. FIFA recently lost Sony and Emirates as a sponsor due to the corruption scandals. That meant that FIFA lost $420 million dollars
On the morning of Tuesday 12th January, the players of the Essendon football club went to the Court of Arbitration for Sport for the very last time to find out the verdict of the anti-doping violations. ‘34 past and present players’ among those their captain Jobe Watson and vice-captain Dyson Heppell, were found guilty and suspended for the year of 2016 for their involvement in the doping scandal. As Essendon’s chair man Lindsay Tanner said “The penalty imposed on the 34 players
1). Soon, after the creation of FIFA, they held the first FIFA congress on the 22nd of May, 1904, which had a team of representatives who signed the foundation act of FIFA document. As stated before no two people are the same, and now two people’s thoughts are the same. But at the end of the day everyone’s views on ethics boils down to knowing right or wrong. For example, if someone were to rob a bank that person knows for a fact that is it wrong and that he may go to jail. There would be no “Maybe it was right for him to rob the bank.” This is the same for FIFA. Allowing bribes to be placed on the next place that should hold the world cup
I did that so I could find some kind of reasoning for their actions, lessons I could learn from these previous situations, or how would I react? First, being part of the committee why were they in such denial of incidents occurring previously before the UEFA tournament? Was it because they didn’t want the world to see it or did they truly think nothing of it? What we can learn from these situations is the realization that politics are very much involved in sports. There can or will be certain groups that will take the platform that sports have and try to use it promote their cause. As a possible future administrator if we had a zero tolerance in policy by golly we would follow that policy. Possibly the Ukraine and Poland might have been a good time to show we will not put up with this behavior and would give them two options, one to move the tournament completely and secondly to let them host only if significant change has been made before the tournament. With being a local or citizen of those two countries is their behavior due to demographics slash cultural upbringing? There was some strong agreesive, and radical influences spread there from the World Wars
There are many ways the FIFA organization, fixes and commit fraud to win a match. One of them in specific is when they contact a important person attending or performing in the game. Then they try to bride them by giving them money that they will make in years of playing soccer. Even for refs that is
Football continues to endure changes with regard to economic force. Following the seemingly unlimited supply of commercial opportunities, we’ve seen more cash flowing into the sport. The football world we live in today is something that transformed from traditional to modern, but even in a relatively short period of time, there are still massive changes occurring in terms of structure, operations, and even player mentality. Although there are numerous factors that contribute to these changes, money is definitely an element that changes the game.
“Corruption in Australian sport is not a new phenomenon. A series of high-profile cases in Australia, combined with an increasing international focus, has seen a reassessment of Australian sport’s vulnerability to illegal activities such as match-fixing, use of inside information for betting purposes and the use of performance and image-enhancing drugs. This has led to the development and endorsement of national policies on match-fixing and doping, the establishment of sport integrity units, inclusion of specialist intelligence units in law enforcement and the creation of new match-fixing offences.”
Another captivating quote was focused on the challenges of reforming FIFA from its malfeasance. “No matter
FIFA has no credibility. Just look at where the next two World Cups are being played at. They must be wonderful footballing nations, right? Ha, not at all. In 2018, the world turns to Russia, who might have tampered with the 2016 U.S. election. Four years later, the world will be broiling in Qatar during winter un-the-less, who have violated humans rights by being stuck in the dark ages with slavery. And both countries were right in the middle of the FBI's investigation of FIFA's World Cup brides. Nothing FIFA does can be taken serious….
Accounts trace the history of football (soccer) back thousands of years ago and through places like ancient China, Greece, and parts of Central America, all which claim to have started the sport. It was actually England that transformed the game, or what the British and many other people around the world call “Football”. How has that simple but beautiful game transformed into the money hungry industry which now generates about twenty-seven billion dollars (Black Marks Beautiful Game). Thanks to corruption (Berlin), Doping (Drepper), Money Laundering (“FBI 24 Years Bribery and Corruption”), the Violations of Basic Human Rights (Oliver), the world of football has grown dark.
Corruption in soccer is a leading cause of biasedness in the game, and a major step must be taken to make the game of soccer less corrupt and fair. “The Beautiful Game” quoted by many supporters and followers. 1293). Bosman also took legal action against UEFA, the European Football Association, to the European Court of Justice in an attempt to invalidate UEFA’s “gentlemen’s agreement”. The gentlemen’s agreement, also known as the 3-plus-2 rule, allowed domestic leagues to set their own maximum number of foreign players that a particular club could have. The 3-plus-2 rule states that only three foreign players and two foreign players who had been in the country for more than five years could play on the field at the same time for a club in domestic matches. In April 1992, the Belgian Court of Justice declared no legal consequences for the suit, so Bosman decided to drop the charges against his club and the Belgian league in order to develop a new claim against UEFA. In his new claim, he stated that the 3-plus-2 rule and European transfer system breached the Articles 48, 85 and 86 of the Treaty of Rome, and they should be considered null and voided. (Lee, 1995)
