Throughout the ‘Scarlet Letter’ Hawthorne uses many forms of figurative language. In Chapter 10, “The Leech and His Patient” Hawthorne reveals Hester’s secret lover and in order to make the climax of the story even more interesting, he uses figurative language. By using figurative language, Hawthorne, builds up the suspense and makes the story more interesting, catching the readers attention. Hawthorne’s uses many forms of figurative language, but imagery and symbolism, especially, transport the reader into the story.
