Since Victorian times, Filey has been one of the North’s most popular seaside resorts where holidaymakers can enjoy beautiful sands which are both safe and clean. Its long crescent-shaped beach extends south from Filey Brigg to the start of Bempton Cliffs, a distance of about six miles. Filey's entry in Domesday Book is ‘Fiuelac,’ thought to mean 'the five leys,' 'ley' being the Anglo-Saxon word for a clearing in a forest or meadow. However, it was the Romans who first recognised the importance of Filey. In the fourth century AD, they established a signal station on the headland at Carr Naze to warn of invasion by sea-borne raiders from across the North Sea. Moreover, the rocky Spittal below, running out from the Brigg, most likely served as
The first cooking show I watched was Chopped. Chopped is a competition show where contestants are given a diverse array of ingredients that are unusual and don’t necessarily go well together. Some of the strange ingredients the contestants were given included pink marshmallow peeps, a chocolate bunny, and also a lamb leg. The idea is to create a dish using all the ingredients you are given to make a dish. There are three rounds, appetizer, entrée, and dessert. Each round one contestant is eliminated or “chopped” from the competition until two contestants are left standing in the dessert round. The show is hosted by a man, Ted Allen and there were three judges, this episode there was a male and two females. The contestants were equally distributed in respect to gender, two male, two female, also
People were mistreated during WWII and were tortured in POW camps. Louie Zamperini, a character and a real person from the book Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, was in the army during WWII and had to go through the torture of being a prisoner at a camp in Japan. In the book Unbroken, Louie was going to be a famous Olympic runner until the Olympics were cut short when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor and caused World War II to start. Louie drafted in the air force and crashed on a mission; he had to live on a raft for 47 days without any food or water. He was washed ashore on a Japanese island and became a prisoner of war. He then had to go through many painful experiences until the war ended September 2nd, 1945. Internees also had to go through harsh times during the war. Both POWs
War is a state of armed conflict between different nations, states or groups (War). No one can think of a time when the United States has not been in a war because this nation is constantly fighting. The element of war is seen throughout the novel Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, it is seen throughout the movie as well. In Unbroken whenever planes went missing there were search planes to look for those them. In some unfortunate cases, “Search planes appear to have been more likely to go down themselves than find the men they were looking for” (Hillenbrand 91). During this time of war in the novel, if some of the
Not many folks are aware that this beach exists, so if you are looking to enjoy some solitude, this is the beach for you. You can find this piece of paradise just west of the Carrabelle Bridge on Gulf Beach Road. Since this beach is not well known, there is no formal parking area nor any other convenience facilities. So, make sure to bring everything you will need with you. The natural terrain of the waterfront makes this beach a spectacular place to fish, particularly in the summer and fall. It is also a great place to take a romantic moonlit walk, as the sunrises and sunsets help to set a scene that you will not soon
The Czech writer Bohumil Hrabal once said, “I was always lucky in my bad luck”. The luck Louie had in the book Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand connects with Hrabal’s quote when Louie and his two friends Mac and Phil survive a brutal plane crash during World War II, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. The crew must survive if they want to see their families and friends. With some luck will Louie help these men be reunited with their old lives?
Beyond athletes, Cutter High School also contains problematic coaches. Part of the reason T.J. doesn’t participate on other sports teams at school is because of the coaching staff. He explains, “Coaches have tried to get me to turn out for sports since junior high. Sometimes they’re insistent and sometimes downright nasty…even to the point of calling me a traitor” (11). These are grown men who place an overwhelming amount of importance on their sports and can’t look past their goal of winning. T.J. refers to Coach Benson, the football coach, and Coach Roundtree, the basketball coach, noting that at some point he’s sure the two coaches would “retreat to the time-tested and highly grating tool of public humiliation as a motivator” (12). Besides the way this coaching style grates personally on T.J., it shows a lack of tolerance from these coaches as well as a lack of respect for the very
Etsy is a great e-commerce site that gives you an opportunity to make a part-time or full-time income doing what you love. If you are a crafty person who enjoys creating and selling crafts for profit, Etsy is certainly a great place to get started, but learning some Etsy Shop tips can give you a jump start on Etsy sales and make the difference of having a successful shop or going out of business. Unlike craft fairs, Etsy doesn't require a big financial investment or a major time commitment. You can open and run a Shop with as few as 1 item and work at your own pace. However, craft fairs certainly have one major advantage over an Etsy Store - your booth is visible to hundreds of potential customers. And although there are always plenty of people looking for handmade items
This section provides an excellent introduction to the beautiful coastline of the nationally important Heritage Coast. The route reveals enticing sandy beaches and sheltered bays, rocky shorelines and towering cliffs, and visits the picturesque village of Staithes. The walking is relatively straightforward, although it does involve climbing from sea level three times; a total ascent of 2582 feet (787m).
As a group we decided to slackline. UTSA has a club called Slackers Association, which one of our group members is a part of it. We all tried to walk across the line and none of us were successful.
I wish I could see “Goofy” again! Goofy was my old best friend about 3 years ago. He and I were like Batman and Super Woman. Goofy was his nickname and we called him goofy simply because of his facial features that resembled those of the cartoon character “Goofy.” His actual name was Robert, but he will always be know as Goofy to me. Goofy was the type of kid who you would look in his eyes and see no type of hope for the future. Goofy and I were raised under the same circumstances but he chose another path to take. Goofy and I were made and molded by the struggle around us but instead of seeing such demising circumstances and choosing to try to make it out, Goofy chose to embrace the struggle as his only path in life. I would always look into
One hundred percent of Americans have a goal which they would like to achieve, but only fifteen percent care about the actual goal while the other eighty five percent care more about the journey. Being organized, learning something, and finding out that the steps are more important the goal are many reasons why the journey can help you more than the goal.

Encumbered self is where a person is restricted by someone or something in which free actions or movement is restricted and difficult. . An example of an encumbered self would be of a person having a wedding based on traditions, religions, and ethnicity. Unencumbered self is where a person has no restrictions and they are free to choose their actions and movement is not restricted or difficult. An example of the unencumbered self would be the murder of Anthony Gonzalez which is similar to the kitty Genovese murder. In the case of Anthony he was shot multiple times in an alley where he lay dying and crying out for help. No one felt entitled to do anything to save it was not until a couple went to walk their dog six hours later. People who follow
If you were in a hurry to get to Richlands, VA from here I doubt that you would drive down Rich Valley Road to rout 80 and then through Hayter’s Gap, across the Clinch Mountain through Corn Valley and past Elk Garden. I aa sure you would take highway 19, and compared with route 80, highway 19 is a short-cut that gets you there quicker. We take short-cuts to arrive at a place earlier; however, I have taken some short-cuts that turned out to not be short-cuts.
