The Evangeline annual food drive is a good display of citizenship because of how they are attempting to raise more and more donations for the needy. One way in which the food drive shows good citizenship is through how they are trying to raise interest in the drive itself, and adding incentives for everyone to donate more food. For example, they now have it that if any person donates to the drive, they will get a ballot entered into a chance to win a $100 giftcard. Since the winter is coming, and more people will need food to make it through the cold, and they are needing more and more donations each year, they also added an incentive for parents to have their kids donate, and whichever class raises most gets a prize. Another reason why the
Our country is experiencing a food poverty explosion. Five years ago, food banks were a rarity. Nowadays, there are over a thousand across the UK and the phrase “food bank” is accepted into everyday vocabulary. Thirteen million people are living below the breadline, that’s almost one in five people, and the numbers are continuing to rise drastically. The use of food banks is continuing to grow, and doctors say the amount of people living in food poverty in now an increasing public health issue. In 2013/14, the Trussell Trust estimated that over 20 million meals were given to people in food poverty by the growing network of food charities across our nation. Far more has to be done

Society’s expectations affect everyone either physically, mentally, or emotionally. One of the biggest factors that plays a role in the assumptions that others make is social class. More specifically, many people do not have the access to certain goods and/or services because corporations will not locate stores in some areas. One example of a good that is hard for some people to buy is healthy food. There is an absence of grocery stores in many low-income areas which leads to the creation of food deserts. Food deserts cause people residing in low-income areas to rely heavily on either fast food or cheap food from convenience stores. Ultimately, corporations and businesses are to blame for the lack of access to healthy and nutritional food available to individuals from a lower socioeconomic class.
The non-profit organization that I chose for the semester project is Feeding America, a non-profit organization that consists of a network of food banks assisting food insecure people throughout the nation. What does a food insecure family look like in the United States? It is parents going without food in order to feed their children, it is families rationing food and skipping meals.
Why do colleges make their meal plans for students very costly? Are they too expensive? Are meal plans or college food healthy? Throughout the 21st century college has become more essential to attend and get a job after graduating. As compared to back then when with just a high school degree an individual could live off a decent job. However, as college became more important, the price of college also increased including, the cost of dorms, tuition, fees, books, and most importantly meal plans. Within all of the college expenses, the price of meal plans has also increased. Food is one of the most important necessity a human being needs to survive. Furthermore, the price is not the only factor, the health and regulations of a student’s meal plan also comes into play. Colleges provide a huge variety of food, most of it being fast food. The main research question

Considering most families live in a low-income and poverty condition the transportation aspects are super challenging and difficult when grocery shopping, especially traveling 10 miles or more without a vehicle. Due to these conditions members from a food desert primarily focuses on what is available, affordable, and convenient to them. Two major issues are convenient stores, and fast food restaurants. Convenient stores contain horrible food selections, such pop, candy, chips, sweets, and much more. McDonalds, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, are also some examples of horrible selections. These resources have zero nutrients for the human body they are extremely hazardous and dangerous. For instance, they contain pounds of sugar, high in sault, deep-fried and overall it is processed food.

The estimated percentage of household waste about 22 percent millions of thousands approximately. Food waste has become a serious issue in our society in the last few that affected poor and rich countries as well. We live in a world where so many have no clue about the people in need of food. I feel like so many don’t show their kinder sides to those who need our help and can’t eat. Of course, there are a good proton of people out there who show kindness to those in need. Just think about everyone who is worrying

Knowing what is in your fast food might make you think twice the next time you devour it. As the rise of the fast food nation in America has increased to an all-time high, so has the weight and waists of Americans all around the country. Not only has the United States grown to love the acquired taste of greasy golden fries and juicy burgers, it has also grown ignorant to the way their food is prepared. In the novel, “Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side of the All-American Meal”(2002), by Eric Schlosser, he makes compelling points in his position against the fast food industry.
On August 4, 2015, Vivian Cu and I chose to volunteer at the Second Harvest Food Bank located on 700 Edwards Ave. in New Orleans. Our Tuesday morning of service started at 9AM and ended around 11:30AM. In preparation for my first time at Second Harvest, I wore comfortable clothes that were easy to move around in and that were possible to get dirty in. The man in charge of all volunteer services, Vince, quickly gave me my duty for the day. There is a huge case of canned goods and my job was to put as many canned goods as possible on a conveyor belt. The conveyor belt would carry these cans to many aisles where other volunteers would put them into smaller boxes that had to weigh from fifteen to thirty pounds. After packaging these boxes, Second
We live in an age in which we have come to expect everything to be instantaneously at our fingertips. We live in an age of instant coffee, instant tea, and even instant mashed potatoes. We can walk down the street at 5 in the morning and get a gallon of milk or even a weeks worth of groceries at our discretion. Even though it is great that food is now readily available at all times, this convenience comes at a price, for both the producer and the consumer. Farmers are cheated out of money and are slaves to big business, workers and animals are mistreated. And, because food now comes at a low cost, it has become cheaper quality and therefore potentially dangerous to the consumer’s health. These problems surrounding the ethics and the
