When the investigators arrive on scene they immediately photograph the markers that were already placed by arriving officer showing shell casings. They pay close attention to the position of the victim’s body as well as the blood on his buttocks. Having to wait on the coroner to arrive to move the body they continue with using a scanner to document the scene in order to reference back to it at a later time. One investigator stays outside while one goes inside to the victim’s room and finds a letter from a friends that states love Rob and according to the grandmother that is the victim’s friend. The outside investigator goes through the victim’s vehicle and notices some gold 13w pumps women’s shoes which suggest he may have an alternative
There are different forms of evidences and ways to present them in a court case. Forensic science is as it says, “...a science applied to answering legal questions,” (p3) It is used quite often during a court case. In “Forensic Science: Evidence, Clues, and Investigation” by Andrea Campell, she explains that forensic evidence is the best evidence to have during a trial.
This information will help investigators cluster the symptoms with a particular disease and rule out irrelevant information. The surveillance of the components gather in this step will put a perspective on the abnormal health events that are occurring on the outbreak timeline.
When completing a crime scene sketch, it is important to include specific information on each sketch. There should be the title block which contains the case number, the agency number, the name and title of the artist, the location of the scene, and the date and time at which the sketch was created. It might also state the victim’s name, the names of any suspects, or the type of crime. The title block should appear in the lower right corner of the sketch paper. The legend should contain the key to the identity
Forensic Pathologist” associated with the medical examiner’s or coroner’s office are responsible for determining the cause of an undetermined or unexplained death” (Saferstein, 2015).
According to Young and Ortmeier (2011), the forensic value of firearm and ballistics evidence is associated with the ability to link the firearm to the crime and the shooter. Markings and striations of the firearm on expended cartridge casings and projectile discovered at a crime are collected and compared to known bullets in a database of known firearm types and test-fired bullets. By checking these national databases, the firearm can be linked to several crimes or not connected to any crimes whatsoever. However, other evidence such as DNA and fingerprints can be linked to other crimes and therefore can link the person to the crime as well (Ortmeier, 2011).
I have always loved suspenseful whodunit television shows, movies, and books that use forensic science to crack the cases. My favorite television show is The First 48, my favorite movie is The Silence of the Lambs, and my favorite book is The Body Farm. Therefore, I was excited to have the opportunity to take this course and learn even more about the subject of forensics. This essay gives a summary of N. E. Genge’s book, The Forensic Casebook: The Science of Crime Scene Investigation, and includes the things I disliked and liked about the book.
After I graduate high school, I want to become a Forensic Science Technician. There are many different pathways to go into Forensics. The path I will pursue is to begin my education in the Health Science Career Field in Diagnostic Services. From there I will go into the Human Services Career Field and will continue my education in Forensic By going into the health field before going into Human Services I will have an advantage by knowing more information on the human body.
There are a lot of different ways that criminal investigations and forensics connect. Forensics have come a long way since the huge technology jump in even the last couple of years. A huge step between forensics and criminal investigations are the on scene CSI investigators. They do both the forensics and the investigation in some cases. But the big question is how these departments connect in these cases.
The main goal of this article is to raise awareness about how forensic archeology and anthropology can be used to improve the outcome of cases in the advocacy for human rights. It is mainly intended to prove how the material remains can be used to address violations of human rights in the past, by allowing the families of the victims to honor their memories. A way to do that is to provide the deceased with appropriate burials, as well as to provide their families with enough knowledge to seek justice. This article proves the efficiency of archeological techniques to illustrate how human rights have been compromised in the past by providing objective evidence of violations committed during the Civil War in Spain. This article demonstrates
The foundation needed for the towel to be admitted as forensic evidence would need to consist of sufficiently supportive information presented to a judge to convince him or her that the proposed witness or item information has the potential to be the truth and hence the jury could reasonably determine that is is or is not true. Admissible evidence must be relevant. Meaning the evidence must prove or disprove an important fact in the criminal case. If the evidence doesn't relate to a particular fact, it is considered "irrelevant" and is therefore inadmissible. It must also be reliable. Meaning it must have some credibility of a source that is being used as evidence.
There are many consumers purchasing digital devices such as computers, tablets, cell phones and smartphones and these devices are usually connected to the Internet. These devices have multiple purposes such as to surf the World Wide Web for information, to communicate with family, friends or businesses and to purchase products without leaving the comforts of home. Each of these devices, computers, tablets, cell phones and smartphones come equipped with a web browser application used to surf the World Wide Web.
I suppose one thing that goes along with graduating high school is constantly being asked where you are going to college and what degree you are planning to get. Every time I answer this question with Forensic Chemistry, a few questions will inevitably follow it such as: “Wow so you must be one of those crazy/ smart people?” or “Okay, so you must watch those CSI shows?” Well too answer those questions, no, I would not consider myself to be the smartest person in my class and no, I have never seen CSI or NCIS and yes, obviously I know that those shows are not even close to an accurate portrayal. When people ask me why I chose Forensic Science I love to freak them out, so I always say that I took a Buzzfeed Quiz that said I should be one, for the record that is only partially a lie, because I do always get some kind of scientist when I take those “incredibly accurate” career quizzes. Honestly I think I only get that result every time is because whenever it gives me options about what my dream workspace would be, for some reason I always click on the picture with a microscope in the background.
I chose to write my critique over an article which explains how physicists can use their science to help figure out what really happened in certain forensic cases such as faulty products or murder trials. Within this article it is explained exactly how we can use science to distinguish what really happened such as whether or not something was a suicide or a murder, whether or not a car was actually speeding, or even just to double check a witness testimony. While some courts do not take seriously the testimonies of physicists it is important for the scientific community to acknowledge them and the different ways that they can use their trade.
The precise distance from which a handgun or rifle has been fired must be determined by means of a careful comparison of the powder residue pattern located on the victim’s clothing or skin against test pattern’s made when the suspect weapon is fired at varying distances from a target. The conclusion that can be deduced if a fine droplets of a victim’s blood are found inside the muzzle of a firearm at an outdoor crime scene where the victim suffered several gunshot wound; the gun is a physical evidence in which a fingerprint will be lifted from the gun. And the gun was used in committing the crime of shooting therefore, it was the gun that shot the victim.
Forensic Science is essential to the field of law because it involves the use of science to solve an investigation. Forensic Science can be divided into many different categories depending on what is required for each career. I believe paramedics, fingerprint experts, and
