I decided to do my country report on France. I have an aunt and uncle along with two cousins who all live in Toulouse so I thought it would be interesting to learn more about this country. France is located in Western Europe. France has generally cool winters and mild summers, but mild winters and hot summers along the Mediterranean; occasional strong, cold, dry, north-to-northwesterly wind known as mistral. The terrain of France is mostly flat plains or gently rolling hills in north and west; remainder is mountainous, especially Pyrenees in south, Alps in east. (All facts and figures in the above paragraph are from US CIA.) “The largest and most recognizable cities in France include: Paris, Toulouse, Marsille, Lyon, Nice, and Bordeaux.” (Pierre). “The French are governed by a semi-presidential republic. Their Chief of State is President Emmanuel Macron and their Head of Government is Prime Minister Edouard Philippe.” (US CIA) The people of France share the same typical days of business as the United States and almost every other country in the world which are Monday through Friday. The French also have typical business hours of 9:00am to noon and after a two hour break for lunch they work from 2:00pm till 6:00pm. They have a 35 hour work week which has been in place since the year 2000. In general, full time employees are given five weeks of paid vacation a year. The typical French employee works around 47 weeks out of the year. (All above facts and figures in the above paragraph are from France Guide). The French take immense pride in their nation and government. The French believe in égalité, which means equality, and is part of the country's motto: "Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité.". The French embody romance and passion. French people also have very strong family values.
The French celebrate the traditional Christian holidays of Christmas and Easter. They mark May Day, also known as Labor Day, on May 1. Victory in Europe Day on May 8 commemorates the end of hostilities in Europe in World War II.
