Two star-crossed lovers in a city full of hate take their own lives, thinking it is the right thing to do. Many who commit suicide think death is the only way out. Out of their pain, sorrow, and heartbreak, but it is not the only option. For Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet suicide is not the only option. Three alternatives Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet could have chosen instead are the pair sneaking out of Verona after Romeo Montague’s banishment, telling friends and family about the secret wedding, or having a secret meeting with Romeo Montague, Juliet Capulet, Friar Laurence, and the Nurse of the Capulets. The first viable option for Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet is to sneak out of Verona after Romeo Montague’s banishment. When Romeo comes to say his goodbyes to Juliet during the night, they should take the opportunity to sneak away and go to Mantua. “O, find him! Give this ring to my true knight and bid him come to take his last farewell” says Juliet (3.3.142-143). Romeo should tell the Kinsman of the Prince Mercutio and Benvolio of the house of Montague about the wedding plans Romeo has made. Romeo, Benvolio, and Mercutio then go to Friar Laurence’s cell to make the arrangements. “The slip, sir, the slip. Can you not conceive” says Mercutio ( 2.4 44). At this point Romeo and Juliet aren’t married, but he is planning on marrying her on this day. Then Juliet and Romeo get married and then tell their parents about the wedding. This option will get Romeo and Juliet into a lot of trouble, but this could save not only them, but possibly Tybalt as well. This is still only two out of the many reasonable choices the pair

Since they are from two different families, who happen to be enemies, they can be punished for expressing their love for one another. Unfortunately, their passion sparks many outrages. Romeo and Juliet deceive others due to the poor guidance they receive about their situation. They resort to deceit as a resolution for their desperate situations. Friar Laurence performs their secret marriage as he believes that this alliance could ‘…Turn [their] household’s rancour to pure love’. Juliet is later forced to marry Paris and asks the Nurse for assistance. The Nurse replies that Juliet is ‘…better in this second match’. The Nurse helped Juliet to marry Romeo but as the situation becomes tricky, she betrays Juliet and encourages her to marry Paris; she provides poor guidance in doing so. This poor advice convinces Juliet to consider a plan involving a ‘desperate… execution’. In this play there are two tragic heroes. Romeo and Juliet are both the tragic heroes. To be a tragic hero they must be from a high estate, have a tragic flaw, and the tragic flaw is the cause of their downfall.
Tybalt quickly went running to alert Lord Capulet that there was an intruder in the house and Lord Capulet responded to just leave him alone because he didn't want to cause a scene. This is one of the many examples of how things could have gone completely wrong just within seconds of Romeo arriving to the ball. If Lord Capulet would've decided to do something about Romeo being there, Romeo could have gotten into immense trouble. Luckily though Lord Capulet was nice and didn't do anything about it because if he had, things would have ended up bad. Romeo and Juliet fell in love as soon as they saw each other. They kissed danced and had lots of fun throughout the night without them even knowing their names. The ending of Shakespeare’s famous play Romeo & Juliet, is devastating yet expected, as the “pair of star-cross’d lovers” (Prologue.9) dramatically kill themselves, leaving their friends and family in pure shock and sadness. In the play, the situations leading up to this dreadful incident should be blamed on the lovers themselves, as well as their secrecy with the absurd relationship that was caused by the couple’s family feud which definitely takes the blame for the double suicide. A long string of events that happened which lead to these deaths, were triggered by these three situations.
