Freewriting
Some people think “ the most effective way to improve your writing is by your freewriting”. I think it is useful for native people, but I think it is not useful for others who are learning English now, so I disagree with freewriting is good way for ESL students to improve their writing skills. I have reasons to support it. First, I think ESL students will use many wrong words when them are freewriting. Second, if they are accustomed to write wrong sentences or wrong words, but they don’t know it is wrong, it’s not good for their tests. Finally, when you are freewriting, you can’t make a plan that you want to write. It is not good to improve your writing skills.
First, you will use many wrong words, when you are freewriting.
Writing is an essential tool and has been noted as a precursor for great speaking by teachers at all grade levels. However, with writing being an important aspect throughout one’s academic career and beyond, it is one of the most tedious tasks to teach. It sounds like a cliché, but in order to get better at something, one has to keep completing the task and each time, accomplish something different while maintaining prior knowledge. There are various ways that enhance a student’s writing abilities and the focus of these research strategies will prove that encouraging students to write enhances writing.
My goal in ESL 220 class is to be able to write over 500 words of essay within half an hour. The reason why I set the line of 500 words in 30 minutes is because this is one of the conditions of obtaining a high score in the writing section of TOEFL test. Currently I can write only 300-350 words in 30 minutes, so it’s not enough. To accomplish this goal, I will do a free writing task each night. Free Writing is a method that aims to improve the skill of writing which developed by Peter Elbow, and it is a task that write down anything we thought for 10 minutes without stopping. Also, paraphrase is extremely important for good writing, so I remember ten words every day that are included regular 3000 words set by Oxford Dictionary. In order to

easiest form of free writing, to me, is if it is an opinionated paper or a creative writing. Neither
Writing have a lot of advantages that if the writer improved his writing these advantages will increase. Firstly, it is required in the daily life in a very wide range. For example, you need to write e-mails to your professors, applying for a job, writing a research and a lot of other stuff that needs to be tangible. Last year I was able to make strides in my writing ability, more so then I have in all of my previous years. I want to continue with that growth and show my ability to write proficiently. I understand the importance of writing is unimaginable. As a future engineer it's essential in order to persuade coworkers with my ideas and beliefs. Writing effectively also gives me the ability to discuss and argue my viewpoints in life. My main belief is in order to get better you need to practice more so I intend to write more stories and read more to strengthen my vocabulary. English is needed throughout all aspects of my life. It goes beyond just having a good mark in English
I feel like most teachers worry more about grades and getting the writing done as soon as possible and not taking their time in helping students gain better writing skills and improve themselves. Students should be able to choose what they want to write about so that we can feel inspired in our writings thus having a better end product for teachers to read and be satisfied with. If teachers are constantly criticizing our writings and telling us what to write about then they never really know what a student’s potential really is because most likely they will rush to try to satisfy the teachers needs than theirs. I also agree that teachers should worry more about a person’s writing than about the mechanics of a paper, however; I also realize that in today’s society free writing isn’t really “approved” in almost every class. In every English class I have had my teachers focused more about the end result that is timing us on essays, and grading our papers based off grammar/mechanics and not the process writing
For me, it has been the best writing technique and never fails to get my creative juices flowing. Despite trying the many other pre-writing approaches, such as clustering and outlining, freewriting is ultimately the tactic I prefer over all the others. In the first draft of this essay, I made sure to shut out all distractions, opened a new and blank word document, thought of my audience and started writing everything that came to my mind. If it had anything involved with the face-to-face and face-to-computer programs, I would write it down. Often, I approach academic freewriting as I approach personal writing, especially when it so early in the writing process for an essay which will be a five-week
Writing is something everyone has to learn in life. People brainstorm when they sit down to write. Letters, essays, and research papers are different forms of writing. Writing can entertain, inform, or persuade an audience. Everybody follows a different process when writing. In this course, I hope to improve my thinking and writing skills.
Freewriting has been a strategy for me in previous classes as well as on my own. When I start to write a paper or an essay, I like to write down everything I know about the subject first, my own thoughts and information I have stored away. In order to choose certain ideas, I compare what I have already learned about the subject versus information I conduct research on. I tend to brainstorm as well and pick out the major ideas to the subject I'm writing about, so the reader can understand my concept. However, throughout the freewriting process, I've already set in my mind how I will write my paper or
Writing is the ability to form words and phrases into a well thought-out idea. However, many people find writing to be difficult and tedious at times. Even professional writers have reported episodes of “Writer’s Block”. Nonetheless, writing is a fundamental practice of an educated individual. In order to become a great writer one must examine their strengths, weakness, and strategies for perfecting the art of writing.
When I first came this classroom, my basic writing was a way lower than I thought, because my writing was a kind of messy due to the missing of strong vocabulary words in my sentences, transitional word to tie up my sentences and how to use quotation more efficiently in my writing and to summarize someone else thought. In fact, a major part of those problems was related to my brainstorming because I was always doing a free writing, instead of organizing my thoughts or ideas after the brainstorming. Even though I was a poor, I learn the concept of organization and sentence structure, the way of summarizing and quoting, and to write the comparison and contrast essay.
A learner’s ability to communicate effectively through writing to his/her target audiences is a major prerequisite for academic success. It is also a major pillar of success in one’s career across all areas of practice. Even though, writing clearly is critical to one’s academic and career success, I have not always loved writing. In fact, for a long time I despised writing. At one point, I had a feeling that my writings skills were bound to remain stagnated throughout my life. However, time has proven that I was wrong. My attitude and outlook towards virtually all genres of writing has changed positively. The various helpful methods I
My writing experience is different from most of the students in American college because I am an international student. I did not take any formal English writing training until I have to take SAT test. Before my preparation for SAT, I was taught the Chinese classic poems and argumentative writing. The Chinese writing and English writing are two different systems. I tried to use Chinese writing style to write a story, an short experiment about my own life in a TOFEL exam before, and I failed. In order to gain a better mastery of the English writing skills, I took two ESL course. They improved me a lot on my formal writing and presentation skills. I learnt how to find source from library and Internet and to cite the source in a formal way. The
English is a hard language to learn, for there are numerous elements of effective usage and writing. Many people, including me, struggle in writing because of a lack of knowledge. Since middle school, English was not a strong suit of mine. I struggled with the simplest of tasks often taking a considerably longer time to complete a task than the other students. Unmotivated teachers and a lack of interest resulted in remedial writing skills. To put it simply, I had little confidence in my writing and I dreaded taking the class because of the writing involved. In spite of my fears, I took the course and I was able to perfect and challenge my mediocre writing skills.
