In certain situations, Friar Lawrence doesn’t seem to care about the disposition or the emotions of others; he tends to disregard the consequences of certain decisions and follows through with them anyway. When Friar Lawrence walks into the Capulet house on the day of the wedding, he is well aware of the situation at hand but decides to act like all is well. As he is walking into the house, he exclaims, “Come, is the pride ready to go to church?”(201). He knows that Juliet took the potion and he also knows that Juliet appears to be dead but he acts as he is unaware of the situation. Once he arrives and sees the effect of Juliet’s death, he is hesitant to comfort the family; instead, he scolds them for being upset. While many are sobbing at
Even though some people may see Friar Lawrence’s involvement with the two star-crossed lovers as a way to provide them with the happily ever after they had always wanted, once you look at the facts you will be able to see that he is the reason why they are both dead. Some key events were when Friar married Romeo and Juliet in the first place, he made poor decisions, and he gave Juliet the idea to fake her own death. Friar Lawrence is to blame because he knew that he would face dire consequences if the Capulet’s or Montague’s were to ever find out that he married their enemy’s kids.
The character that should be blamed the most in The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is Friar Lawrence. Friar Lawrence should be blamed because he was the one who married the couple after only knowing each other for like an hour. But what the Friar was thinking was a really good idea about marrying the two to maybe end the feud between the families. Then the Friar would be famous for the one who ended the feud between the Montagues and the Capulets.
Friar Laurence is the one to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet’s. He is the one to blame because he gave Juliet a fake potion which made her pass out for a couple of hours and he didn’t let Romeo know. According to the Friar Laurence, “Unhappy fortune! By my brotherhood, the letter was not just a nice greeting. It was full of very important information. It’s very dangerous that it hasn’t been sent. Friar john, go and get me an iron crowbar. Bring it straight back to my cell (act 5, scene 2)”. Therefore, Friar Laurence had something to do with Romeo and Juliet death.
Who Played the Biggest Role in the Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet? Romeo and Juliet is an extremely popular story written by William Shakespeare. The story is extremely tragic, but why is that? In Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, Friar Lawrence drastically influenced the tragedy; in fact, he played the biggest role. Not only did he conduct Romeo and Juliet's marriage, but he also led to the tragedy.
In the play Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare, Friar Lawrence is the one responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because he was the one to start and end the whole situation. In Verona Italy, there lived two families with a strong hatred for the other, the Montagues and Capulets. Romeo who is a Montague and Juliet who is a Capulet fall in love at first sight but, sadly cannot be together because of their families hatred for the other family. After a short ordeal of deaths, fights, marriage and, banishments Romeo and Juliet both are dead. Who would be the one to blame for this tragedy? To start off, Friar Lawrence was the one who gave the potion to Juliet so she wouldn’t have to be forced by her parents to marry another man named Paris.
Many people could say that the protagonists of the story Romeo and Juliet have side figures that act as their true parents that help them accomplish their goals in life. In this case, people identify Friar Lawrence and Romeo’s father and the Capulet’s Nurse as Juliet’s mother. By blood these people are not related to either character but many people say that the things they do for these children act “parent like”. Truly, in the book, Lady Capulet suggests that the Nurse mainly took care of Juliet as an infant and Romeo was guided by Friar Lawrence to be the best man he could be. Overall, I believe that Friar Lawrence and Nurse capulet are the “true” parents of Romeo and Juliet.
Throughout The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet Friar Lawrence, the mediator of the play, assists Romeo and Juliet through their many problems. Many people see the Friar as a spiritual guardian or mentor for this young couple. Friar Lawrence marries the two and attempts to mend their problems. For example, he attempts to mend Romeo and Juliet’s marriage when Prince Escalus banishes Romeo and when Lord and Lady Capulet try to force Juliet to marry Paris. When this spiritual guardian marries the young couple without their parents’ consent he knowingly oversteps his ecclesiastical duties. It is for these reasons, such as marrying Romeo and Juliet and trying to fix their problems, why Friar Lawrence is the man who causes this tragedy. In William Shakespeare’s
Now that Juliet takes the vial and her family thinks she is dead, Friar Lawrence scolds Capulet for trying to force the marriage with Paris. “Peace, ho, for shame! Confusion’s cure lives not in these confusions. Heaven and yourself had part in this fair maid. Now heaven hath all, and the better it is for your maid” (IV.v.71-74). While Capulet is grieving, Friar tells him that Juliet is better off in heaven than living with Capulet. Friar’s importance in this act is to show that with Juliet not marrying Paris, she has a way of reaching Romeo, and eventually the Capulets and Montagues would be peaceful towards each other. This is part of Friar’s plan for harmony and therefore he can be described as harmonious and peacemaking.
In the tragedy, Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, Acts IV and V show that the character Friar Laurence is the main contribution to Romeo and Juliet's deaths. To start off, Laurence says, “like death when he shuts up the day of life,”(IV.1). Friar Laurence is explaining to Juliet that the poison he gives her will make her look like she has died. This leads to the star-crossed lovers deaths because Romeo doesn’t know about the poison, then finds his wife “dead” and kills himself to be with her. For another example, Friar also says, “who bear my letter, then, to Romeo?”(V.2). The two Friars are talking about the letter that was supposed to be sent to Romeo to inform him about the plan with Juliet and Friar John says that he wasn’t able
In William Shakespeare’s “The tragedy of Romeo and Juliet” many factors add up that eventually lead to the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Such as the two constantly going out in secrecy, or even the Nurse encouraging them to continue. This helps play into their deaths. However, there is one main factor that helps to reach the conclusion of their deaths. Friar Lawrence is the main factor and cause for Romeo’s and Juliet’s deaths.
How did the nurse and Friar Laurence help and hinder the two young lovers’ goals? In the play “Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare, it shows how the Nurse and Friar Lawrence help and hinder the two young lovers’ goal by marrying them and then giving juliet a vial. In act 4-5, it starts when paris is going to get marry with juliet, but juliet is already married to Romeo. Friar Lawrence gives Juliet a vial and inside there is a drug that makes your pulse stop, Juliet drinks it and she dies, then romeo goes and a buy vial to die too but juliet wakes up and see that Romeo just drank the vial. At that moment Juliet decides to kill herself to be with romeo.
In the face of unexpected challenges and difficult decisions, people’s values will naturally guide and shape their actions and choices. For instance, the presidential election requires that people vote for the candidate they believe resonate with their values. Though many may have America’s best interest at heart when casting their vote, sometimes their choices can create unforeseen harm in other people’s lives. During the 2016 presidential election, many unreasonably voted for Donald Trump in hopes of making America great again, but some may not have realized that they could have caused massive damage to certain people’s lives before it was too late, yet still, the only way for society to be at peace again is to forgive and forget. Similarly, in the Shakespearean play, “Romeo and Juliet,” Friar Lawrence, guided by his values as a holy priest, intends to marry Romeo and Juliet to bring them happiness and end their family’s feud, but his plans do not work out as smoothly as he expects. Although Friar Lawrence
Several of Friar Lawrence’s actions throughout the play are meant to benefit only himself. As a church leader, Friar should put others before himself. After Friar Lawrence finds out his letter didn’t get to Romeo, he panics for a different reason than he should be. Friar says at this moment, “within this three hours will fair Juliet wake. She will beshrew the much that Romeo hath had no notice of these accidents”(219). Friar is solely thinking about himself and the response from Juliet when in reality, he should be worried about Romeo’s well-being; if Romeo didn’t receive the letter then he will think his one true love has died. After Juliet wakes, Friar realizes that he will be in a great deal of trouble since he helped Juliet fake her own
The Friar explains his plan to help Juliet to her and says she will, “appear like death/…Shall Romeo bear thee hence to Mantua”(IV.I.103, 117). Juliet does not want to marry Paris and their wedding is planned to take place in only a few days. Friar Lawrence thinks outside of the box and devises a scheme that will fool others into thinking that Juliet is dead so that she will not have to marry Paris. The fact that the Friar came up with such a plan under such short notice shows that he is a quick, but careful thinker. Later, Friar Lawrence is told that Romeo was not aware of his plan yet and reacts, “Romeo hath no notice of these accidents/… [I will] keep her at my cell till Romeo came” (V.II. 26-28). The Friar had planned to send a message to Romeo telling him that Juliet is not actually dead, but he has not gotten this note yet, so he believes his love has died. Friar Lawrence is aware of the love between the two and knows that this mistake could result in Romeo harming himself, so he must fix this immediately. The Friar is clever enough to quickly rethink his plan in order to save Romeo from himself. The Friar uses his qualities of intelligence and cunning to help Romeo and Juliet, greatly influencing and changing their
Friar Lawrence was one of the most important characters in the novel. Even though he was not on the stage for most of the play he greatly contributed to the tragedy that would soon happen at the end of the play. There was basically three major parts that lead to the death of Romeo and Juliet, which Friar Lawrence was involved in all of them. Friar Lawrence played a vital role in the marriage, planning and death of Romeo and Juliet. His attempts to do the right thing were noble, but because of poor planning they would soon lead to the inevitable tragedy.
