Frida Kahlo was a famous mexican artist born July 6, 1907. She claimed to have been born on 1910, the year that the mexican revolution started. She was proud of the mexican culture and heritage. She showed it through her art and life in Mexico. Her works were surrounded by her identity, passions, and pain. She suffered from polio as a child and later, almost died from a bus accident. Frida lived a short life and was rather disable due to polio. Frida also suffered from a serious bus accident that left her infertile. She married Diego Rivera in 1929. They divorced in 1939 and remarried in 1940. She was a political activist and became famous with her oil paintings until she had health issues. She expressed her physical and emotional pain, passion, and sorrow through her paintings. She painted her own reality rather than dreams and nightmares. Kahlo’s paintings are the story of her life. She was famous for painting surrealism, cubism, symbolism, modern art, and magical realism. According to the article Frida Kahlo and her paintings, “She has approximately 143 paintings and 55 of them consist of self-portraits” (FridaKahlo.org.). Frida Kahlo achieved celebrity even through her brief years of life. It extended far beyond the mexican borders, although nothing like the cult status that would eventually make her the mother of the selfie, her memorable image recognizable
