Kathleen Battle Born on august 13, 1948 in Portsmouth Ohio she is considered she is famous for being an African-American sopranos. She attended Cincinnati College Conservatory for singing training. She got the attention while at college from a conductor who took her sing the Brahms Requiem at the Spoleto Festival in South Carolina in 1972. In 1975 she made her stage debut in Rossinis II barbiere di siviglia as Rosina at the Michigan Opera. Her next role debut in the New York City Opera in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro as Susanna in 1976. While performing there she got the opportunities to sing in orchestras in Los Angeles, New York, and Cleveland. Born in November 29, 1797 in Bergamo Italy, and died in April 8, 1848 in Bergamo Italy. At the age of 8 he was studying opera with composer Simon Mayr, his studies consisted of chamber opera, religious works, and a little of chamber music. In 1822 Naples his first opera was premier “La Zingara”. While at Naples he was working as a composer and conductor thought out the end of the 1820’s and beginning of 1830’s. His first opera hit was Anna Bolena in the 1830. He raised so much awareness of his operas that every year he follow with a new composed symphony would get the same appreciation as the previous ones. All his song was considered master piece, a fine piece of art. His last opera was in 1843 Caterina Cornaro which is consider one of his finest masterpiece.

Darkness is manifested through the reality within Cosi and the fantasy aspect contained in the play, Cosi Fan Tutte. The darkness behind the truth in regards to the nature of humanity is vastly explored. Louis Nowra has integrated such concepts within the comical play. Set during the 1970’s, the seemingly contemporary situations reveal much of the dismal reality most had experienced during that time. Throughout the play, the Cold war is also acknowledged, therefore elucidating the idea whereby, much of the ‘dark’ aspect of the play was a result from this conflict. Rossini was born in Pesaro in 1792 and on December15th, 1815 when he was only twenty-three years old, he signed a contract to write an opera for a theater in Rome (Weaver, 11). His childhood friend, Gertrude Righetti Giorgi, premiered as Rosina in Rossin’s Il barbiere di Siviglia, on opening night for the Nobile Teatro di Torre Argentina (Weaver, 19).
