Bringing forth imaginations and emotions, fairy tales are relatable and relevant to all who read them. They help us to navigate challenges by solving problems and learning how to overcome and cope with life's difficulties. The foundation of most fairy tales includes a hero or heroine that is considered the underdog as the reader is rooting for them. When looked at more closely the role that men and women play in fairy tales influences our perceptions and thoughts related to what is considered the norm. These stories have tendencies that closely correlate with problems and situations that people commonly have in their lives, so it is unreasonable to think that they don’t define our outlook of gender roles in today’s society. The depiction of being inferior or weak, awaiting a man to save them is a common image of women in fairy tales. They are also occasionally portrayed as mean, evil and wicked, wreaking havoc to the main characters in the story. The wicked queen in the story of Snow White is shown to be rough and ruthless in her pursuit of Snow White. In the past, the queen was left by her husband for a younger, more attractive wife. This fairy tale provides a stereotype for both men and women. Where men leave their wives for more attractive woman and that women who have been discarded by their husbands become wicked, bitter, and revengeful. Imagine the influence this fairy tale has on young girls adding pressure that you must retain your youthfulness and beauty. In conjunction with this, young boys might interpret from this fairy tale that it is acceptable to move on to a younger more beautiful wife. Consequently, these stereotypes alter what children think their future relationships should look
