(Dominique).Gender roles have affected the way a film succeeds, making most successful films based on male led roles, putting down the female lead roles. The film industry for women is complicated and in order for them to succeed, they have to already be well known and have experience. Other women have to play stereotypical roles in order to have a place in the film industry. Some films have female led roles that show how women are powerful such as Legally Blonde and Mean Girls. Female led films lack the opportunity of being successful because they are expected to appeal to everyone in society, live a hypocritical life, and the roles they have to play are according to the stereotypes.
First of all, female led films lack the opportunity of being successful because women in films are expected to appeal to everyone in society. It is impossible for a film to appeal to everyone because people have different perspectives. Another way a film does not appeal to everyone, is because the film is not depicted in the true perspective of a women. In the article “Feminist Film Criticism” Bausch states, “Most hollywood films are told from a male viewpoint, they generate what can be understood as a ‘false Consciousness”. Bausch’s point is that female roles cannot fully be understood because they do not come from a female perspective but rather from a male. In that point of view, they are not appealing to other women and lack the support of female audiences because the emotions are not relatable. Other people in society believe that women in film have to simply be there for a mens purpose and to solely serve them.
