A directors cut, is a specified edit of a version of a film (or video game, music video, etc.) that is suppose to represent a vision closer to that of the director. In 2004, director George Lucas had an interview with Associated Press, and states that the Star Wars series only represented “25 or 30 per cent” of what he wanted it to be. In the following paragraphs, I will show you how editing scenes differently can and will change the outlook of characters and the story of Star Wars IV: A New Hope.

The creator and director of Star Wars, George Lucas, was incredibly successful for his movie series, but even more successful for its overall purpose: to sell toys to ten-year old boys. The use of ethos, pathos, and logos are very abundant in this movie. Ethos, Greek for “character”, is anything referring to or relying on the author’s credibility. Pathos, Greek for “emotional”, is anything that makes you feel emotion. Logos, Greek for “word”, is anything that makes you think. By using these he was able to persuade the audience into thinking, feeling, and loving Star Wars, making the audience want to purchase figurines.

Much of the Star Wars ' credibility and popularity is owed to the richness of its fictional world as defined by writer/director George Lucas. In an interview, Lucas states that the original idea for Star Wars was modelled on the movies of his childhood, The “Flash Gordon movie serials and Edgar Rice Burroughs’ John Carter of Mars Series of books.” The mise-en-scène in Star Wars plays a vitally important role, so the question explored in this essay is how the use of mise-en-scène adds depth to the themes in Star Wars: Episode IV—A New Hope (1977), paying particular attention to ‘good versus evil’. This theme stands out in because it speaks to one of the oldest struggles of all, the battle between right and wrong.

Star Wars: Return of the Jedi is final chapter in an epic story of good versus evil. The script was written by George Lucas and was released in theatres on May 25, 1983 (IMDb.com). In the George Lucas film, the creator of Star Wars, has very strong Hindu beliefs. Similar to Hinduism affecting our lives, so has it affected his to an extent, which can also be seen by the fact that he has incorporated Hindu themes throughout the Star Wars film. This essay will explain, through different examples, the way Lucas has pushed Hinduism into this movie. In the movie, The Empire Strikes Back, it seems to portray some type of Hinduism in the first parts. Moreover, In the scene when Luke Skywalker goes to find Yoda. As he arrives, Skywalker finds himself in a swamp or forest, trying to find an old and wise master Yoda to learn the ways of the force. Later in that scene Luke gets a vision that his friends are in great danger. Luke then prepares to departure to go save his friends. Yoda persuades him not to go by saying that he must finish his training first because it is more important. This specifies on the Hindu concept of job over blood. The duty over blood lesson can be looked as examples in readings found in the Bhagavad Gita, where Krishna tells Arjuna to battle his cousin in spite of his emotions for them, it is his job to do so.
