After graduating from Yale in 1968, Bush moved back to Houston where he worked for an agribusiness company (a

Although Eleanor Roosevelt served as first lady from 1932 to 1945, her influence lasted much longer than expected. Eleanor became her husband’s ears and eyes during her husband’s presidency and aided human rights during her entire life. She did what no other First Lady, or woman had dared to do before; she challenged society’s wrong doings. Many respected her; President Truman had called her “the First Lady of the World (Freedman, 168).” Eleanor Roosevelt was an amazing first lady who helped her husband, Franklin D. Roosevelt, run the country.

George Walker Bush was born a little over a year later on July 6, 1946. George W.'s father continued his studies at Yale after his son was born, and would graduate two years later in the spring of 1948. The day after graduation, the elder Bush set off for West Texas and a job at the International Derrick and Equipment Company in Odessa, Texas; his wife and son arrived two weeks later. Odessa was a blue-collar town, where pipe-layers and roughnecks lived. Odessa's white-collar sister city was Midland, where the oil deals were made, and the company headquarters were established. More importantly, this is where George H.W. aspired to be. But for now the couple moved into a small apartment in Odessa, where instead of dealing with oilmen they had to deal with another couple with whom they shared their bathroom.

Before Eleanor Roosevelt, the role of the first lady was not a political role; it was merely just a formal title of the president’s wife. Eleanor Roosevelt paved the way for all presidents’ wives to come by being active in politics during and after her husband’s presidency. Of course, she did not have instant success; she had many trials which helped her become an important and influential role model. Eleanor Roosevelt’s dedication to her husband, her activeness in politics, and her volunteer work enabled her to change the role of the First Lady.

Bush admired his history professor Thomas T. Lyons at Yale. This admiration led George to major in history. George had very little intellectual curiosity and was not interested in politics. However, some of his classmates believe that being a stickball commissioner and the head cheerleader were pre- political experiences. While he was a well known figure, there were many times he faced conflicts at school for being a male cheerleader, and some agree that this prepared him for the world of politics. Bush himself claims that his student activities qualified him for the White House. After he attended Andover, he persistently demonstrated the same leadership: “not a powerful intellect or dazzling policy but rather an exceptional ability to make friends, work a crowd, cheer people up and take them all in his direction” (The New York Times Company). When he was the governor of Texas, he worked with both Democrats and Republicans, and built successful coalitions which led him to become a popular leader without becoming engaged in policy details (The New York Times Company).

George W. Bush, our current President, must keep a copy of Machiavelli’s most celebrated work, “The Prince “(1513), on his desk in the Oval Office. In my opinion, Bush and his administration’s actions mimic Machiavelli’s advice to the Prince on the tactics that he should use to stay in power. I am going to discuss how President Bush uses Machiavellian principles.
He felt as though he already knew a lot about business and that college would be a waste of time for him. His theory was supported when he decided to attend the Wharton School of Finance. The professors were stunned at his ingenious entrepreneurial mind. Buffett knew more then many of his professors and transferred to the University of Nebraska for a better education. (Smith-4) Unfortunately, that university was not that much better. He had achieved good grades in all of his classes at the University of Nebraska and managed to administer 50 newspaper delivery boys simultaneously. After he realized that the University of Nebraska was not helping him much, he decided to drop out and transfer again. He first tried to transfer to Harvard but was not accepted. That decision would later haunt the Harvard administration committee. Warren Buffett then applied to Columbia University and was accepted in 1950. This was an experience that would forever change his life, and direct him on the right road to reach the American Dream of Success. (Ryan-37)
