Range.—Giant milkweed is native to West Africa as far south as Angola, North and East Africa, Madagascar, the Arabian Peninsula, southern Asia, and Indochina to Malaysia (Rahman and Wilcock 1991). The species is now naturalized in Australia, many Pacific islands, Mexico, Central and South America, and the Caribbean islands. Ecology.—Giant milkweed favors open habitat with little competition. This condition is most completely met in overgrazed pastures and rangeland. Other common habitats are beachfront dunes, roadsides, and disturbed urban lots. The species grows in dry habitat (150 to 1000 mm precipitation) and sometimes in excessively drained soils in areas with as much as 2000 mm of annual precipitation. Giant milkweed may be found in areas
Using the experimental data, we calculated the per capita population growth rate of Lemna minor using the equation r = 1/t∙ln(Nt/N0). The results showed that duckweed grown in the presence of a screen exhibited a lower per capita growth rate than duckweed grown in the absence of a screen (Table 2).
This experiment, which was used to explore the Theory of Evolution created by Charles Darwin. The use of natural selection was apparent in the artificial modification of an organism's traits which aided in this investigation. Through this experiment the Wisconsin Fast Plant was used. It is a fast-growing organism developed to improve the resistance to disease in cruciferous plants. This plant aids scientist in the exploration of environmental effects on population due to the speed to which is matures and reproduces. Artificial selection was stimulated by the selection against plants with few hairs(trichomes). Trichomes create a wider variation which means it is polygenic. The plants that had only a few trichomes were
Throughout this experiment, we are researching the effect on the growth and survival of Wisconsin Fast Plants using fertilizer pellets to help with the growth of the plants. Wisconsin Fast Plants is a plant member of the crucifer family which is related to other plants (vegetables) such as cabbage, broccoli, turnips, etc. This plants are small and can grow very easily because they go through their cell cycle around 40 days. Wisconsin Fast Plants Fertilizers are different materials used that can provide plants with the nutrients it need to grow. (1) These plants are a good model system to study because they grew very quickly and didn’t need a lot of resources to grow making them the perfect plant to use for studies. (4) By using the fertilizers,

If I had lived during the Holocaust, the hardships would include lack of shelter, starvation, and survival. To start, people struggled to find a safe shelter. The book Milkweed is about a boy who has to change the locations of his shelter to be able to survive. I know that during this time period a lot of people who were jewish were taken to concentration camps were they were forced to work and were treated harshly. Because of this people had to change the location of their shelter to escape getting caught. Additionally, people also had to face the struggles of starvation. Since hitler and his nazis were killing off a lot of people, the people who owned food stores could no longer sell food. This meant that people couldn’t get the same amount
This is showing that Loyal is realizing that the Japanese people rights are being stripped from them, and he is beginning to regret supporting the decision to put them into camps. Furthermore the text states,” Dad told our boys to walk from the camp in a group. They weren’t to be alone, because somebody could treat them like prey”,(p.237). Indeed this is showing that Loyal cares and is looking after the Japanese, not just because they are his workers, but because are humans who don’t deserve the punishment that is being handed to them. In Tallgrass Loyal changes from biased to open-minded.
The story Night by Elie Wiesel is an autobiography about Elie as a young boy and his journey through the Holocaust. The story Night has similarities to a historical fiction on the Holocaust called Milkweed. The first similarity is the main character’s age range. Both of them are younger, but not exactly the same age. When Elie is put in the concentration camp, he is fifteen years old. It is unclear how old Misha, the protagonist in Milkweed, is, as there is not a specific age. However, we can assume he is about seven or eight because he makes friends with a girl who invites him to her seventh birthday. It makes sense that he would befriend someone relatively close to his age. Their similarity in age makes them more oblivious to what is going
Can you imagine seeing the glow of a blazing fire killing thousands of your people trying to set you free? Or having to crawl through a small hole to get food for you starving family. Or having to see the man that made you see and do all thoughts things. This and more happens to a little boy during his survival in the Warsaw ghetto. This is from the book milk weed written by jerry spinelli. And in this research essay we will be talking about 3 things that spinelli accurately depicts in the Warsaw ghetto.
Milkweed is a book about a boy who is called Gypsy, Stoptheif and Jew. He becomes friends with a group of orphaned Jewish boys and lives with them. He is given a name and a backstory from Uri, who protects him. The name is Misha Pilsudski. Misha wants to become a Nazi when he gets older because of their boots but changes his mind. 1. What was the original habitat of the organism? Japanese knotweed is native to Eastern Asia and was originally brought from Japan, China and Taiwan. 2.
Marijuana has always been a controversial topic. The use of marijuana has been a major debate in the government because the government has never had any control over it. However, the state of California in recent times has been less harsh on marijuana by passing laws that allow recreational use across the state of California. With this in mind, the city of Desert of Hot Springs lately has allowed opportunities for people to grow and sell marijuana for medicinal and recreational purposes as long as they get permits from the city. As a result, businesses that want to cultivate marijuana have to follow regulations that have been set by the city to insure
A. One of the primary concerns in Stillwater County Montana (MT) (See Attachment 1) is the continued spread of the noxious weed, spotted knapweed (Centaurea stoebe, formerly C. maculosa), along the Stillwater River. (See attachment 2 and 3). The Spotted Knapweed Control Plan (SKCP) is designed to treat and manage the current and future infestation of spotted knapweed along the gravel bars and bank sections of the Stillwater River. The several previous attempts to control spotted knapweed in this area have only been somewhat successful. The SKCP utilizes four treatment methods to effectively reduce and eliminate spotted knapweed in the designated sections: 1). Biological control; 2) Grazing Control; 3) Manual Weed Control; and 4) Herbicidal Control.
This Blue Yeti USB Microphone will make you reminiscent of that good old, classic microphone with its retro-based theme of shiny metal grilles and silver, chrome-toned frame. Why is a homeless boy nice to a family that he doesn’t even know? Misha is a homeless boy who is brought into a family “ the Milgroms”. Misha is a caring person to the Milgroms family. The Milgrom family also trust Misha with their daughter. The Milgrom family is caring to Misha they treat Misha like their own son. In “Milkweed”, Jerry Spinelli uses trust and caring to explain why the Milgrom family trust and cares about Misha.
During this essay I will be analyzing the July, 2009 Knotweed essay by John Roland Stahl. I will addressing the following points; What is the author’s main point, what are the main supporting arguments, are the supporting arguments valid, why or why not, is it a strong argument. Stahl’s main point in his essay is knotweed: it would be better to make paper than cutting down trees and that using knotweed for paper would be a better way to control its overgrowth than, “ breeding a population of super vampire insects that will attach themselves to the knotweed and gradually suck out the plant’s juices” (Stahl, 2009) He has multiple supporting arguments.
